Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

Good afternoon ladies.

Did my 3 miler today and it was great. It was kind of funny though. I hate, hate, hate the cold. I've been complaining all winter about having to run outside. Well, this morning when I took off for my run, it was about 65 degrees. I burned up! It was HOT! So, now I'm wondering how in the world I'm going to be able to run when it's 80 or 90? Which do you ladies prefer? Hot or cold?

Jackie: Congrats on the new number. It must be a wonderful feeling. I'll never get way down again. I just keep gaining and losing the same 10 pounds.

Beth: I applaud what you are doing for your family. They will benefit for a lifetime (even if they don't see it now). We ate nothing but fast food or things like mac and cheese when I was a kid. My mom was a single mom who worked 2 full time jobs. I was either in charge of dinner (and didn't know how to cook) or she would leave us money. We do go through spells where we eat out more than we should, but we're trying not to anymore. My son was considered obese last year at the beginning of summer(he wasn't huge, but that's what the chart said), so I changed everything. He's lost 15 pounds! Of course, once he goes to bed, mom goes crazy!:confused3

Corinna: I would LOVE to have 17.9% body fat. I had the largest body fat percentage in my personal trainer certification class at 24%. I'm probably about 22 now, but need to go get that checked. I have a son in 4th grade also. He has discovered girls! :scared1:

So, it sounds like the key to this half marathon thing is just to stay with it every week, huh? I think I'll catch the bug after my half and stick with it. I'm already signed up for a 5K with my son the following week. Of course, I'll be doing it at his pace. I have been telling myself to just slow down and chill out this week. I was so set on a number for the half, that I wasn't enjoying the run.

Have a great day everyone!

Hopefully coming back later with a real post -- I was so sick yesterday -- but I did still crank out 5M. I didn't go to work, and I spent the rest of the day napping. I have to work this morning, so hopefully I'll be able to make time to reply to everyone. *almost* managed to stick to my points yesterday, but was sidelined by baklava and spumoni my dh brought his sickie...Planning to at least walk 5M after I get home from work, we shall see...Holy Week is turning into a big mess for me -- I feel unprepared, tired, sick, and not functional, but my weight is still going down, so I guess I'll go with it.

Maria :upsidedow

I'm here--April Fool's! :lmao:

Sorry I've been MIA for so long and so spottily. It was necessary, trust me. Too much going on, too much of it related to work, too much stressful other things. The good news, I've dumped a client & have learned a(n expensive) lesson. The bad news is, after the month – which included an indulgent, if working, spring break; runner's knee; tight deadlines; relationship problems (don't ask, don't tell); poor eating habits; and stress – I haven't consistently run & have gained back most of the weight I lost in February. *Sigh*

I feel, well, defeated & angry at myself. I've been wallowing for a couple of days now, since I finished the project and the client. Pity party, pity party. But I'm picking myself up today, because the sun is shining and I need to do good things for myself.

So I'm back here, and on WISH, regularly from here on out. That's my promise to myself. I'm recommitting to myself, and I hope you'll have me back. (I know, I know, I've said this before. :upsidedow)

I've quickly read the last 5 pages or so – and caught up with things, sort of. VERY brief shout-outs before I mea culpa 'Ohana, too.

Beth: WTG with bumping up your miles to the 15. I'm so proud of you for that (and other things too). Year-round 1/2 marathon shape is a worthy goal for me. I'm glad to know you're deferring the PX90 so that you can do well with your 1/2 training--keepings thing balanced.

Cindy: Sorry to hear your stomach is still giving your problems. That's so, so rough. ITA with Beth, that Boston will be such a marker for you--of all you've done to get there, of all you've overcome. I'm so proud of you! And remember, you just recently PRed a 1/2.

Corinna: 17.9% BF. Fabulous! And you'll do well with your 1/2, I know. You always manage "relentless forward motion." Woo hoo!

Jackie: You rock, with the 1/2s & sub-2:30 PRs. And that number on that scale. I'm definitely following you from here on out. You ARE a Half Fanatic.

Jeanne: Congratulations on ONEderland!

Kim: Great to know you got to hang out with Vicky! Even better knowing you 've lost 10 pounds and are on a roll. I hope that heel continues to get better.

Mandy: WTG with your food tracking streak--it's very hard to do, especially when working long days like you do.

Maria: Seriously, I don't know how you do it--going from one crazy work (and writing) project to another. I got a little taste of what you do (or what I assume you do) and I fell apart. I have so much admiration for how you keep all those balls in the air. And you've been doing masterfully with your working out (and neg. splits) & weight loss. Oh, and congrats to DS on Latin.

Tandy/Rubato (that's so I remember): I've fallen so far off the healthy whole food wagon, but just reading you enjoyed a whole week of good eating made my stomach growl! I hope you're enjoying taper and going into your race strong, with no ankles issues!

Vicky: Congrats on your race! I totally missed the FB race-tracking thing. Dang it. Hugs for any DF problems--Beth's on the money, these things happen in relationships. Going through it right now & have been for, what, 6 months?

HI to anyone I missed.

Today, I'm headed out for my first run in FOREVER. I'm practically starting over again from ground zero, I'm afraid. Better than DNS, though, right?

Hi Lean ladies! Hope everyone's ready for the long weekend! Yay! Wait - is Good Friday a holiday in the US? We're getting a forecast for a high of 25C or 77F. Hopefully it will be the same for everyone else.

Maria - No fun being sick just as weather is warm and sunny. Hopefully this weekend won't be too stressful for you. Remember to take some "me" time for yourself. WTG on the 5 miler, especially when you're not feeling well.

Debra - I've been wondering how you've been. Not sure how well the FB updates worked. The race had timing mats at 10K, 15K, 20K and the finish but only the last two seemed to post. for the personal issues and all the aches and pains. Get out there and rock that run tonight :) Let us know how it goes! Don't worry about the gains - as long as you're out there moving, it will come back off!

Tandy - Congrats on the 3 lb loss!! :thumbsup2 I like running in the cold weather but I HATE dressing for it. Don't like wearing tights, layers of shirts, long socks and staticky clothes. What's your goal for your first half (sorry I think I missed it)...

Jackie - Congrats on that PB! Especially since it was the weekend right after! You must be on :cloud9: What's time will you be shooting for on the next half?

Kim - Definitely will have to get together again before Scotia! I only wish they had kept the packet pickup at the Convention Center instead of the Exhibition Grounds. There's nothing around there... Glad to hear you're on track with eating and exercising!

Beth - 15 miles! WTG! Do you go out by yourself or with a running group/friends? I also love that you cook at home so much. That is something I've definitely got to get back on track with in April. Are you going to pick up PX90 again?

Corinna - I usually like to have a few weeks in between big races. It usually gives me a chance to relax mentally and to let any aches and pains heal. I am impressed with your body fat %! WTG! Lots of hard work must have gone into that. Do you use a scale or calipers to measure?

Cindy - How's your training going?

AFM - It's been a busy two weeks at work. That's why I haven't been posting as much. I've been trying to keep up with my team thread but even that moves a little too quickly some days. I did a race report and I'm going to be a little lazy and just link to it:

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=36033916&postcount=312

Eating has been so-so, getting in the fruits, veggies, water and fibre but not completely able to stay away from the sugars. Anyway, I decided that I'm going to go back on my white-free diet on Monday  No rice, refined sugars, fried foods, white bread, pasta but will still eat whole wheat breads and pasta and potatoes (I don't eat very much of those for some reason).

Exercising has been going well at the gym. Now that I'm done my race, I'm back to deadlifting and started to do sets with 135 lbs instead of having that be my max lift. On Monday, I did a set of 6 with 2 reps and on the final set I managed to get in a third rep! Phew! Running wise, I still have some ankle pain. My PT said it's my anterior tibialis so I'm going in on Saturday for some ART and hopefully that will fix things up. If I'm good to go, I'll register for a 10K at the end of the month!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good afternoon ladies!
I have a new niece today! :yay:

No run today, but got 2 walks in. I was supposed to lift, but I was at the hospital all day.

Vicky: We don't have Good Friday off at our school, but some do. It just depends. We do have Monday off though. Go figure! My goal is 1:50. We'll see. Some days I think I could go faster, but who knows until I'm there. It sounds like your exercise is going really well. I hope your ankle feels better. I know how that feels. Not fun. Good luck with changing the eating. It's the hardest part of this whole journey for me!

Debra: How did your first run go today? Did you meet your expectations? Please don't get too down on yourself. We are all there on occasion. Any of the situations you mentioned could put someone in a funk, but to have them all happen at once, it's no wonder! Just get out there and do the best you can.

Maria: I love that you were sick, couldn't go to work, and still ran 5 miles! :thumbsup2 Spumoni is one of my very favorites! If I buy a half gallon, I do not rest until it is gone! And, in one sitting too! :eek:At least your weight is still down!

AFM: Well, the diet is still decent. I took a night off last night and am paying for it today! Ugh! But, another 1/2 pound loss, so I'm still motivated. I have an 8 miler tomorrow that I'm really looking forward to. It's my last long run before the half! But, somehow I have to get that run in while volunteering at school, mowing the yard and shampooing all the carpet for guests coming on Sunday! Yikes! I might have to skip my early walk with my friends and get the run out of the way!

Have a wonderful evening everyone!
Tandy

Good evening Lean Ladies!

Celebration time.....:cheer2::cheer2:......Welcome back DEBRA!!!! I have truly missed you, and am happy for your return. I am so sorry that life has not been friendly to you. We are have LTO, so we know of what you speak. At this point, you must first take a breath. And now, please, let the past go. This is not the time to go backwards and relive what went wrong. Life is never easy, and you hit a rough patch. That is no reflection on you. I love that you have come back to begin again!!!! We are here, and support you 100%

You know what to do. Motivation builds with each small step forward. I hope your run today went well, but even if it didn't, it is still a step forward. Celebrate yourself today. Be grateful of what you are able to do, not worry about what you can't. Love yourself for the wonderful person you are. We love you! Please give yourself the same love and good advice that you give to us. We all fall down sometimes. Character is what happens when no one is looking! Envision us lifting you up!

Change something up. Do something different. It can be a new recipe. A workout at a time that is new. Do a little 'speed' work. Anything that helps you build your motivation.

My thing has been making a new soup recipe on Sunday to eat for lunch for the week. That small act makes me feel that I am caring for myself. It doesn't take me long, but that feeling lasts all week when I eat lunch!

I am proud of you. You are a tremendous motivational force here in Lean Mean territory! I am glad you are back.

Check in again soon.

AFM: I had a massage today. It didn't hurt as bad as the last one. I am going to think that is a success! I did take today off running. I am feeling much better, and want that to continue! Eating has been doing ok. I made homemade peanut butter granola bars yesterday, that turned out very yummy!

Beth

***Vicky: I plan on picking up the P90X again after my marathon in June. I'll give it my best during the summer months!

Hello Lean Ladies!

So glad to finally have the time to make a *real* post! I did the work I had to do this morning, and now I'm taking a break to chat with my buds :lovestruc

I ended up walking almost 4M yesterday afternoon. I just ran out of time. I have to do another quick walk when I get home today, before I head out for a hair appointment. I also need to find time to at least clear out my kitchen and dining room, if nothing else. I said on another thread my grandmother is rolling in her grave, because generations of my family have been told the house is supposed to be clean for Easter. I also had an accident with some twizzlers, but I'm on low rations today (I don't allow myself any treats between Good Friday and Easter), so that should help with the upcoming weigh in.

I'm also not sure how much better this is -- we ordered a platter of anisette cookies from ds's school, and when I saw the size of it, I decided to just serve those and chocolate ice cream for dessert on Easter. I was going to get lemon meringue pie (my favorite, which I only have once a year), but we are going to be swimming in cookies!

Beth -- As always you have fabulous advice! :thumbsup2 I'm glad the massage felt better this time. I'm interested in the recipe for those homemade peanut butter granola bars, those sound really good! Thanks for keeping this thread going, it and you are greatly appreciated!

Tandy -- I hope you have a great Half! :cheer2: The key is to get back up after you have a little slip. Sounds like you are doing it!

Vicky -- I hope your work life slows down a bit. It's hard when you have that kind of pressure. I am just starting a new project, but it's a renewal, so I feel like I have a good handle on it and it's not stressing me too much. Hang in there, it will get better.

Debra -- So very good to see you here, you have been greatly missed! :grouphug: Grantwriting is not for the faint of heart -- but when you do it consistently, you learn some tricks to make it go more smoothly. It's like any other job, it's easier if you're a professional ;) I'm sure it's a whole different kettle of fish to write features :scared1:

Jackie -- I love that philosophy, always prepared for a Half! You guys are awesome! And :woohoo: for a new scale number, it is awesome!

Corinna -- You continue to amaze me. What an incredible accomplishment to have 17.9% body fat -- and maintaining your goal weight -- plus feeling recovered from your Half after just a week off -- you are an amazing athlete! ::yes::

Do we need to send out a search party for Manda, Kim and Cindy?

I'm planning to do 6M Saturday morning, and do some sort of walk on Sunday before church.

I hope everyone has great plans for this weekend, and if you celebrate Easter, it is a Happy one! Otherwise, Happy Spring to Everybody!

Maria :upsidedow

Hey Lean Ladies! Another busy day....I didn't have time to post earlier.

Maria: I think serving the cookies for Easter is a great idea! Your guests will appreciate them and you won't have to eat them yourselves! I am very lucky...my sister is hosting Easter dinner (and making most of the food too) I just have to make dessert!

WTG with the workouts. Time can be such a beast to overcome. There are somedays that just have to much momentum to catch some exercise! I always just do what I can, and let it go if I can't get everything done.

AFM: I am looking at my long run tomorrow. It's supposed to be 16 miles, but my dh scored some Red Sox tickets tomorrow in DC, so it may not all get done. I might try to do 13 or so....and try again next week for 16 miles.

Eating today could have been better, but I had an awesome cheeseburger in Annapolis. One of the best I have ever had!!! So, I do have some guilt, but I think I will remember the burger with positive thoughts!

Beth

Hi everyone. Well, I fell off the wagon hard! Just decided to skip my run today. Then, I ate 4 pieces of pizza, a whole bag of chips and a container of chocolate frosting! :eek:I feel so horrible right now. And, I know that Easter dinner is going to be bad too!

Beth: One burger isn't so bad. Especially if it's a good one! I'm jealous of your Sox game. I'm going to opening day here on Monday, but it's the Royals, so it's not like it's a real baseball team. We're actually taking a trip to St. Louis in June just to see the Cardinals play the Phillies. We enjoy our minor league's games more than the Royals!

Maria: Lemon meringue is my favorite too! Love it! I love spring foods. My whole family is coming over Sunday, and I, too, have felt that need to have everything perfectly clean. I had to shampoo carpets today. I don't know what it is my family does in the family room, but the carpet gets NASTY!

Well, I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, whether it's Easter or just spring! :butterfly
Tandy

Thanks for the warm welcome & encouraging words. I'm almost over myself, really. But who else am I going to blame? That is, who'll take it? :rotfl2:

Maria: I'm so impressed that you've been doing the mileage you've been doing when sick! Good on you (or is it good for you in your neck of the woods?) I SO don't have the patience to be a grantwriter, at least not when working outside my areas of knowledge. (A mistake, I know.) You have my increased/unending respect. And the work you do is important, too.

Your weekend, and everyone else's, sounds busy, busy, busy! I hope you have some time for family & relaxation.

Vicky: Wow, 25 C is hot up your way for this time of year. (We hit a record high yesterday of 84, and I'm not liking it.) I really like the idea of FB status race updates. I hope the kinks get worked out. Congrats again on the race. A white free diet. That's so, well, not Norwegian of you. (Thinking on my time living in Fargo, with all the jokes about lefse and lutefisk. Three reps at that deadweight? WTG!

Tandy: That's terrific news about the 1/2 pound, and don't worry about your little slip-up. It sounds like you're aware of it and that means you'll do well on the Easter dinner. Plus, I believe you'll get your mileage in this weekend, and you'll end up feeling stronger and even more eager to rumble. (Er, race.)

Beth: Thank you for always being the supportive voice of reason outside my head, even if I don't want to listen. Mmmmm, homemade peanut butter granola bars. Sounds yummy and healthy. That's the kind of good treatment of oneself I can support, although a massage has a certain appeal.

Baseball, running, baseball, running. Take the Sox tickets & run (later)! :lmao:

AFM: Well, I did get out there on Thursday and today. Not a pretty sight, folks, and way too hot. (I didn't make it out until 8 today because I forgot to charge the Garmin.) I've lost a lot of ground running wise, and with my eating isn't under control yet. But I'm crawling back, folks, I'm crawling back.

On other fronts, I've been sad this weekend because of the news of the 9yo that was killed at Disney Thursday. I ended up "reporting" on it, then dwelling on it. It makes me think we need to give all our loved ones big hugs today. :grouphug:

Good Evening, Ladies!

A quick check-in before I watch tivo'd "Fastforward". I like that show. I almost don't want to, but for some reason I do, even with the evil hobbit...

I did 6M this am. You'd think that would mean my cold and sore throat are gone, but you'd be wrong. I am so ready for this illness to be over! I have my menu together for tomorrow -- Honeybaked ham, scalloped potatoes, broccoli, crescent rounds, and the popular anisette cookies. Still haven't tried on the Easter dress. I'll be honest, I think it's going to be too tight. I bought it a size smaller, and I just don't think I'm there yet. It's really more of a summer dress anyway. I have a skirt and blouse ready to go if I don't pass -- I could get into it, but I think it would be so tight I would look like I spraypainted it on, and Stacey and Clinton would object. We'll see tomorrow...

Debra -- I think there is a common misconception that anyone can write a grant, or read a book and then do it. Well, you can, but I wouldn't expect it to be funded...that said, yep, it's wise to stick to what you know. I wouldn't dream of trying to write a grant for autism, because I know nothing about it. This is why there has been such a push to professionalize grantwriting -- but I could go on and on, and really, I'm babbling :rotfl2:

Tandy -- Are you on the MO or KS side? I'm originally from St. Louis, and I went to undergrad at Truman State, back when it had another name. My BFF was from Salisbury, MO and her boyfriend lived in KC, so I've been there a few times. I've also been to Moberly, and I'm not nearly as impressed as some other posters. :rotfl: Really, I didn't see Walt's ghost anywhere ;)

Beth -- You sent me to a U.S. map! I had to wrap my mind around Annapolis, DC, and PA. Then I realized it was like me going to Rhode Island one day and NH the next  That burger sounds awesome! How did your LR go? I think 13 aka a Half Marathon, sounds like a pretty decent long run to me! :rotfl::worship:

Oh! I picked up a new indulgence -- Skinny Cow caramel chocolate truffle bars. I think I'm in :lovestruc I'm not going to read the ingredients, I'm just going with 100 cal, 2.5 fat grams and 3 grams of fiber.

Ok, off to watch and then to sleep, perchance to dream...

Maria :upsidedow

Yes, I finished about 14 miles yesterday, and didn't feel like death warmed over. That in itself cause to celebrate. Last week's LR was a death march, so anything is an improvement.

Had to leave right after my run (after a shower of course!) for D.C. to see the Red Sox game. It was a beautiful day, and the Sox looked awesome! Two home runs before the 3rd inning.

Off to my sister's for Easter dinner!

Beth

Beth - It's funny, we were the same way. We went out almost every Sunday after church, but that was pretty much the only time we ate out. It was a real treat to go out any other time during the week. I can't believe we've gotten into such a habit now that it's the exception to eat at home. I keep fighting the battle, and I think I'm making some headway. DD has been home from college all weekend, and we've eaten dinner at home all three nights - a first for us!

Debra - I'm pretty sure we all joined you at the pity party at some point during the last couple of months. I actually am going to host my own, but more on that later. But wallowing is over, and we are going to defeat those pounds, one way or another. As for the Disney news, it's not been a good few days (or weeks, or months) in the transportation division there. I feel so bad for the family of the boy, and for the bus driver. We've had several tragic accidents locally in the past week as well, one at Annie's former middle school where a 13 & 14 year old were crossing the street from a fast-food hangout and the 14 year old was killed. I understand completely about the dwelling on it, and the need to hug your loved ones. My sister has a saying "Keep your 'I love yous' up to date," just in case.

Vicky - I'm really glad you mentioned the ART. I'm having more shin/calf pain, and have an appointment with my massage therapist on Wednesday. If she can't figure it out, I'm going to call my chiro and see if he can work some magic. I'd completely forgotten about him until you posted that. (Never mind that I talked to him at the race expo only a couple of weeks ago!) As for my next goal, I refuse to think about it. Last time you asked that question I swore I wouldn't even consider breaking that time anytime soon, and look where that got me!

Maria - Reading your preparations for Easter made me grateful that it was just the three of us. Very laid back Easter dinner, prepared after a long nap after attending sunrise service and the early service. I hate to say I'm lazy, but if the shoe fits... I am beginning to tackle a modified version of spring cleaning, so while the pork chops cooked, I scrubbed the countertops and the walls!

Tandy - Time to get back on the wagon, fast! But I'm very jealous. I've been way too good this weekend, and I'm terribly afraid there's a fall in my immediate future.

I really do think I've been good. I did get the pound cake dessert at Macaroni Grill Thursday night (but I just checked, and it's a measly 250 calories), but other than that I've made good choices all weekend. I ran 6 miles on Saturday instead of the usual 10 - a small group of us cut it short, partly because DD ran with us for her first long run, and partly because a lot of the group are recovering from illness. Then we took the dogs for a 2 mile walk in the park. I was a little bummed to find the scale UP almost a pound this morning, but am not going to obsess over one day's number.

As for my pity party, DH told me at dinner Thursday night that he'd been laid off, so finances went from tight to horrendous in a matter of moments. I'm trying to be positive, but may need some reminders along the way to stay that way! I imagine the race scene will be a lot more local now than we were dreaming of. We've committed to Indy, so that will happen, but after that...

In the running world, my April goal is to focus on the 5K. There's a local one on the 24th that several of our friends are running to benefit the local police memorial fund. That's my target race to meet my goal of running a 5K nonstop, so my midweek runs this month will be focused more toward that than the half marathon. That is, if I can get the calf pain under control. Long runs aren't a problem, but the short ones aren't going so well! And I need to stop being a klutz - while we were walking the dogs, I tripped over a root and bashed both knees for the second time in as many months. The right one had just healed, and now the left one is all scraped up. All DD could say is "I love you Mom, but..."

Jackie

Jackie: I am so sorry to hear the news. This economy has been bad. I am sorry that your dh has been layed off. Yes, that news would certainly put a krimp in the race schedule for anyone! Was it something dh suspected, or totally out of the blue? Either way, never good news. I hope things work out for you......and in the mean time, your 5K goal is a great one! The 5K is such a doable distance, and you will excel!

I am always for a nice, personal, pitty party. I had one myself over the weekend.....the family was getting me down! Sometimes, a pitty party helps re-focus on ourselves, when everyone 'forgets' us! I am forgotten alot. I tend to put everyone else's needs before mine.....but it catches up to me, and then it's time for a pitty party! So, host your own!

AFM: I slept in today! I ran long Saturday, got 3 miles in late last night (ran it all at 6.0 mph!....10 min miles seems over the top right now :scared1:) So, my legs were tired. I will try to run later today (maybe) but the old legs needed a rest this morning!

Beth

Good morning ladies.

Jackie: I'm so sorry to hear about your husbands job! I hope he can find something very soon. This is a tough time, but people ARE hiring. You guys will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Beth: I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the game. I'm loading up the stuff for mine, and it's pouring rain! :scared1: But, it's supposed to be over before the game gets going. The problem is, my parents want to do some tailgating. That part might be wet!

Maria: We're on the Kansas side. But, I've lived on both sides at different times. I don't really like it here. I'm from Colorado, so Kansas just isn't pretty at all. But, the cost of living is great and my husband's never lived anywhere else. We keep talking about moving to the coast somewhere, but who knows? The Moberly comment is funny. My son is doing a biography on Mr. Walt Disney and I had no idea he was from Moberly until then.
I love Skinny Cows also. So does my whole family. I like the mint chip sandwich ones.
So, what did you end up wearing yesterday?

Debra: I'm so glad you got back out there! I know it's hard to get going again, especially when it feels like you have to completely start at 0 again. But, it'll come back quick!
That poor little boys family. I couldn't believe that happened! It's just a senseless loss!

AFM: Well, the weekend turned out pretty good. I got my long run in on Saturday. I'm feeling really good now that I'm tapering. I also lost another pound. I made up for it yesterday though! ;) If 3500 extra calories equals a pound gained, then I know i gained that pound back!

Today is my last day in my 30s! I'm so excited to turn 40! :cool1:

I have a question for all of you race vets. What do you eat before racing? I'm mostly worried about the day before. What are the right foods to fuel your run the next day? The morning of, I'll probably just have some oatmeal, which is my standard breakfast. Of course, I'll be having it about 3 hours earlier than I usually do, but I want to make sure everything's settled.

Good morning lean ladies! Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! Today, I'm thinking that Easter Monday should be a holiday as well. Three days doesn't feel long enough  Of course I'd probably say that as well even if it were a 4 day weekend!

Tandy - Congrats on your new niece, your upcoming birthday and the 1 pound loss!! Before I race I try to get in some carbs, sugar and protein. So I'll eat oatmeal with brown sugar and walnuts, a whole wheat bagel with natural peanut butter and yogurt or cottage cheese with jam. I'm also drinking water and Gaterade... Are you also planning on taking gels or blocs with during the race? Just wondering because you mentioned you're going for a 1:50. When I first started running, someone told me that I didn't need anything extra for a half but I found that once I was running under 2:30, I started to run out of gas on course.

Beth - I know I missed it somewhere but which marathon are you running? The peanut butter bars sound yummy!! Are they low in sugar? I found a recipe for homemade protein bars - actually, it looked like it was brownie mix, nuts and a few scoops of protein powder but it seemed like you could freeze them and then pop them into the oven after a LR.

Jackie - The ART on Saturday was ... unpleasant but I don't think I've had an ART session that felt good during. Hope your shins and calf feels better soon! Are they tight/sore from the races you've been doing? I can relate to the klutziness - my legs are always bruised from bumping into things. Sorry to hear about DH :( I hope he's able to find work soon.

Maria - pixiedust: for your cold! WTG on getting in the 6 miler while you sick. How was your Easter dinner?

Debra - I think last year I took a month off running and had a lot of trouble starting again. It took me a couple of weeks to get going but you'll be back into things in no time at all! Yeah, no white foods :) I'm not very good with cutting back so I figure I'll just cut everything out!

AFM - I had my chiro look at my ankle on Saturday. He says I have a grade 1 inversion sprain on my ankle. I *can* run on it if I have a race (just need a little bit of sports tape) but I don't want to make it worse so I'm going to stay off it for a while. I guess it's a good time for the no refined sugar, white breads etc. diet to kick in :) I walked 3 miles on Sunday and my ankle felt pretty tender during and after. I have to say even though it was more relaxing to walk, it was hard to see everyone running by.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Tandy - Happy early birthday! As for pre-race fueling, DH and I actually start two nights before for our big pasta/carb-load meal. When I've heard Jeff Galloway speak he says the idea of the pasta dinner the night before the race really isn't such a good idea, since your body won't have time to process it before the run. Lunch is actually the last meal fully processed. So if we're racing on Saturday, we'll go out for pasta on Thursday night, and then I'll try to have a good (or at least decent breakfast with some protein) on Friday. I generally have pizza either for lunch or dinner, and just make sure not to have anything spicy that could cause problems. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Because I've had problems in the past, I always drink a bottle of Gatorade or Nuun on Friday as well to make sure my electrolyte levels are good before the race as well.

Vicky - Ouch! Take care of that ankle. It's hard not to run when you see other people running, but it sounds like now is a good time to take it easy for a little while and let it heal. And I definitely agree - I've never had an ART session that I actually enjoyed at the time. Many a time I limped out of his office, but the results were worth it! I may actually have whimpered a time or two. My sports massage therapist is usually a little easier, but she can inflict pain too.

Beth - Not totally unexpected, but unexpected enough to knock your breath out for a while. DH was smart enough to take me out to dinner and wait for the beer to arrive before telling me, knowing that I wouldn't make too much of a scene as long as we were in public. He's not the best at getting moving, so I'm proud of him this morning for tackling the list of things he needs to do today to make things happen. And hooray for sleeping in!

Sleep will be in short supply in our house for a couple more days. MUST stay up late tonight to watch the NCAA basketball final. Grew up in a family of diehard Duke fans, so we're extremely happy today. My boss went to Butler, so there's quite a bit of trash-talking at the office today. I can't decide whether to take a nap after work, or try to get a run in. Temps are supposed to be near 90 today and tomorrow, but cool down to the 60's by the end of the week. Or I could work on the spring cleaning that I attempted to start last night...

Jackie

Yikes, Vicky take care of that ankle. Did you hurt in Hamilton?

No it's been an on going thing - my ankle would get sore after a LR and then be okay for short runs. About a week or so before Hamilton, it really started bothering me and then I think the 30K race just finished the job so to speak. It was bothering me before the race and then it really started hurting by 10K. Normally, I wouldn't have run the race but I figured I did alternating 13 and 15 mile runs in February so I didn't want to waste them :)

Good Evenng, Lean Ones!

What an unusual day. I stayed home to recover from Easter, but I didn't get to my workout until afternoon. So, I walked 6M instead of running it. I'm hoping to spring up tomorrow and run before work. I have yoga at lunch, so I've definitely got exercise on tap.

Jackie -- Sending a giant  your way! These are indeed tough times. I will say a prayer that dh quickly finds an even better position :goodvibes I'm glad you have the NCAA to distract you!

Vicky -- I'm feeling better today, my throat isn't quite as sore. Hoping to be even better tomorrow...Easter dinner was great! Ok, I certainly ate too much, and I wish dh hadn't discovered they make crescent rounds (like the rolls, but biscuits) 'cause they are just too yummy, but it was a very pleasant meal. I am so sorry for your ankle woes! I really hope the rest gives you the results you need! :thumbsup2

Tandy -- Happy Birthday! 40 is so awesome, I'm going to turn it again for the third time in June! :rotfl2: I went with the skirt and new blouse yesterday, and got a ton of compliments. I'm glad I didn't push it by wearing the dress. I could have, but it would not have looked pretty, and I have no desire to wear something that's too tight -- especially since I know I will get there and look so much cuter wearing it the first time when I do! ;)

Beth - Ah the joys of the family get together -- this has inspired more than 1 pity party for me! I think of you every morning -- you are always remembered in my house! Every time I want to scratch a workout and don't, and even when I do, I think about how hard you've worked and the results you've achieved! :grouphug:

Debra -- How's the reboot going? I know you have been through such a rough few months...sometimes you gotta do a Dory and just keep swimming :fish:

Cindy -- Time to check in so we know you're ok! I worry about you doing that Boston training...I am going to be thinking of you the 19th! I'm working, but I'll be thinking of you on the course! :yay:

Kim -- So was there a final choice on the prom dress? Tell us all about it! :listen:

Ok, off to read for a few minutes before slumber. Everyone have a great night, and a pleasant tomorrow!

Maria :upsidedow
