Working around Disney Computer Enhancement Issues

Two days left in our 8-day wondrous T-giving week at SSR...it's been completely fantastic!

What follows--a report on a variety of computer issues--in no way interfered with the terrific time we've been having all week.

First: despite 20+ tries in the 10 days preceding our departure for WDW, I was never able to get online check-in to work. But, no biggie. In person check-in was smooth...our villa was ready and it was, for us, the perfect location...

Next: Magical Express delivered a departure envelope 3 days after we arrived, and 5 days before we were to leave. The envelope told me they do not have our departure flight information and gave me a number to call to inform them...my ME packet that came to my home does have the departure info, tho...but I dutifully called and they told me they do indeed have our departure info, and it was correct. Again, no biggie. I now have a departure voucher and who knows, we may get another one tomorrow (the date we "should" get one).

Then: I'd made ADRs for each day we're here, but as is our custom, we changed our minds several (4) times. Each time I called to see if we could make the change we wanted to make (we could and did), Dining's computer system could not find our room reservation. And Dining will not (cannot?) check restaurant availability w/out room reservation info first. After the second such experience, I just told the CM that while we are staying at SSR (and were calling from the in-room phone!), could we just make the reservations as if we were not staying on site. Both times the CM was willing to do that (and all the CMs were exceedingly pleasant--they're just as frustrated with the computer glitches as any of us are!)

It is seriously easier and quicker to make ADRs w/out "admitting" to being an on site guest! I still had to go through the long, drawn-out process of "finding" us (or, in our case, failing to find us) in order to cancel the "old" ADR...each time, the CM couldn't find a room reservation for us, and so canceled by way of looking at the restaurant's list for the time in question. It seems we are "permanently lost" in the DVC villa reservation computer gizzards...but again, no biggie...we have our villa; it's perfect in all respects...

Finally, Mousekeeping is all messed up! We have so far gotten two full cleanings (complete with bed linen changes) and one trash and towel service...in 6 days...I don't get it at all...but again, no problem. I'd have tidied up a bit more had I known Mousekeeping was coming...but I really can't/won't complain about "extra" cleanings...

So...Disney's computers are having the predictable bugs during this enhancement process...but while the bugs are many and varied, they haven't caused us any problems.

And they did have the unexpected benefit of letting me stumble on a MUCH easier way to make ADRs...it really is noticeably quicker and more efficient to make the ADRs as if you're an off-site guest (and we had no problem using our Dining Plan credits at the places reserved as an off-site guest).

Oh: one other tidbit that might prove helpful: we did do the dining plan this trip, but we also used our TIW card for "extras"...again, no issues and no problems...I didn't know if we'd be able to combine the two processes, but turns out we can and it's easy...

So...we're now off to Animal Kingdom and then Candlelight Processional at Epcot tonight. We sure are loving being here...

Happy holidays!

Glad you're enjoying your trip and that the glitches haven't hampered your stay in any way. Which area of SSR are you staying at and how are the crowd levels? It sounds like you have been able to change ADR's rather easily. Are the restaurants not that busy?

Have a great time! I wish I was there with you! Only a little more than 8 months for me.

I'm glad that things are working out for you despite the computer glitches and that you are having a nice trip.

I called the other day to make what I thought would be a very simple modification to a Dec. reservation (dropped the last day), and it must have taken at least 15-20 minutes to get it straightened out. The CM had to get her supervisor to rebook the entire reservation since some of the days were booked at the 11 month mark and others at the 7 month. The new system hasn't figured out how to easily make modifications to existing reservations that are a combination of points from both booking windows as above. Thank goodness I had a really sharp CM, or I may have lost my entire reservation! Fortunately, everything seems to be in order on the DVC member website for my Dec. trip.

I recommend that anyone making changes to reservations immediately check the member website to verify accuracy of the changes rather than waiting for a confirmation letter.

Hi, all...just back from a morning/early afternoon at Animal Kingdom, and then lunch at Sanaa (one of the redone ADRs when I didn't admit to being an on site guest...no hitches at all in the reservation, or in using DDP for the drink, entree and dessert, and the TIW card for the appetizers)...

We're staying at the Grandstand at SSR, in a ground floor one-bedroom directly across the walkway from the feature pool...perfect in all respects...and no Mousekeeping today (grin)...

We had only one "try" for a new ADR that didn't work...my son wanted to try Portobello at DTD last night, and there was no availability...instead we went to Ragland Road...

The restaurants don't seem to be all that busy, but we also haven't tried for "hot spots" (e.g., Le Cellier or California Grille--altho we went to both of those, those ADRs were made 6 months ago)...we changed from Citricos and Teppan Edo to Ragland Road (last night) and Sanaa (this afternoon)...on Wednesday, we added Wolfgang Puck's Cafe (in add'n to what we had from 6 months ago)...

DTD last night was wall-to-wall crowds, at 7 p.m. all the way til when we got back to our villa close to 10...the Studios got pretty crowded by noon yesterday, but weren't bad first thing in the morning...we pretty much walked on to Rock 'n Roller Coaster (arrived at 9;15), altho we did use the single rider line to do so (and entirely by good luck/accident wound up riding together)...this morning, we got to Animal Kingdom when it opened at 8 and walked on Expedition Everest and Dinosaur, but it was starting to get "mobbed" when we left at 11...we went to Epcot Thursday for a 1 p.m. Le Cellier reservation and were surprised at how crowded it wasn't! But we didn't try to go on any of the "big rides"...Soarin' was listed as a 120-minute wait; didn't even look at Test Track or Mission Space...we did the World Showcase, where crowds were fairly light...walked on to Maelstrom, the only ride we tried Thursday...

Today started out pretty rainy, altho it's sunny (and muggy but not too hot...about 75 or so) now...maybe that kept the crowds down early in the day??

Anyway, we're having a terrific time...and no, I don't hate anyone for getting online check-in (or any other computer function) to work...your good luck and hurray for you...and as noted above, the many and varied computer glitches don't seem to be causing any problems, so no complaints...

So, crowds are pretty much what we expected...totally manageable when the parks first open; pretty intense by mid-day...

Happy holidays!

I know what you mean about the hotel reservation part. I called a week or two ago to book a meal at the Tusker House. It took longer to do that then it ever has to book a room! The CM wanted to find my hotel reservation which apparently was difficult. Then they made me verify who I was! All for a dining reservation that was only 2 weeks away so it's not being done to verify eligibility to book - only to have it all linked together. I took a survey afterwords and answered I thought the time to do this was worse than expected. Of course you can't answer why but at least I could give some input.
