I work p/t for a national dept. store, mostly nights. The night shift is usually 4:45-9:15. Last night after I got to work I found out we are now required to stay until the entire store is cleaned and straightened. So basically the day people don't have to worry about straightening, because they know we will be doing it at night. I don't know why they can't split it up, have night people stay a little extra, and have day people come in a little early. With the holidays coming and extended hours, I may not get home some nights until 11:30 or midnight. That is going to be a looooong day for me when it's a school day as well:(

Time for a new second job unless you like that one. That isn't gonna work out especially if the first shift is young kids, (sorry I feel this way) but the younens don't do have as much as us old folks. :D :)

I know people who work for a "national chain" and I think I know which one because I have heard of this before. I would be very frustrated by this. Who wants to get home that late, especially if you already have a full-time job.:(

The question is....Do they pay you for the extra time?

Good point, Diane. Do they pay you for these hours, kteacher? It's not a lot of comfort but it should be some.

When I worked in retail, we were required to keep our departments clean, with articles folded and neat. I never stopped working.

I hope you don't have to work so very late on school nights :(

Those of us who worked closing (which I usually did) when I worked at Bombay also had to do all the cleaning. I hated it only because I always had to vaccuum.

Oh that will be such long, long hours for you!! {{{{HUGS}}}}

luckily we do get paid, but even if our own dept. is clean we can't leave until the entire store is clean. last night there was another employee who was talking to a friend for almost an hour while I was waiting on customers and cleaning my area -in other words-doing my job. guess whose dept needed to be cleaned the most after closing:rolleyes: So we all had to go over to this employee's area and straighten. right now it's not so bad, but during extended hours it's going to be really hard,especially since I don't eat dinner till I get home.:(
