Work is it just a vent or am I actually in a questionable environment

Daft12 - You already know that the working conditions as you desribe are not right for you. If you can't live without the paycheck for a while, bite the bullet and live with the job while you actively look for something more suitable.

SO glad that wasn't my call-center experience. I worked at the call center of a large outdoor-gear company for several Christmas seasons. We were allowed to choose whether we wanted 20, 25, or 30 hour weeks (part-time seasonal employees) and knew our fixed schedules a week in advance. The Company was rigorous in ensuring we had breaks and lunch times per state law. There was a beautiful break room with TVs, charging stations, and WiFi, and there was an employee fitness room. We were given the standard company discount and allowed to apply it to purchase as the in-house shop, the local company outlet store, and the flagship store. GREAT place to work!!

OP, if the situation is real, just talk to your temp agency and get reassigned. Regardless of whether their practices align with labor law, they clearly are going to keep operating in this manner. You aren't happy… so leave.

This is quite the interesting first post from someone who just joined DISBoards today.....

Virtually everyone who has worked for any number of years has had a horrible job, highly regulated, where you were treated less than kindly. Your personal circumstances dictate whether you need to suck it up, keep your head down, and do the job, or if you can quit and find something better.

No texting/personal calls at work unless on your break and away from the work area.

No bathroom/lunch breaks unless on break.

Mandatory overtime.

Doctors note if sick.

No approved leave (mine is for first 6 months of work, then u get some leeway.

All sounds normal job criteria to me. Not sure what your issues are here.

The only thing I see a problem with is being called out/spoken to in front if colleagues. That is unprofessional and unacceptable in my opinion. However, if I needed the job, I'd suck it up. If I didn't, I'd speak with a manager. If it didn't stop, I'd quit.

Yuck, thank you for showing me how lucky I am in my job. I'd never work in a place like that and I feel for anyone who has to.

But as an aside, if they are keeping you so busy and are so strict how do you have time to post on here all day? Or are you off today? Just wondering.

For the most part I agree with this.

In my own experience I have only worked at one job where the conditions were similar, and it was retail - I quickly figured out retail was not my thing and gained an appreciation for anyone who did such a job. Couldn't grasp why they would want to work retail, but more power to them. Not my thing.

I'm in the camp that is wondering who gave you a degree and in what field of study?

And also, what age group you are in - teens, young adult, middle aged, where do you fit?

The texting and phone gripe makes me think you are young.

The scrambled writing style makes me worry if you truly have a degree.

I guess the bottom line is it is up to you. Work and make it better, find a better job, or quit and let the rest of us support you.

if you spend time getting a degree (assuming its not only a high school degree....), i suggest researching what degree you should get based on the type of job you would like to do. sounds like a call center isn't what you wanted from the beginning, correct? what kind of job do you want? okay... now what degree do you need to get there? --at that point, and only that point-- is going to college worth the cost.

Based on the vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, etc of the OP posts, I am willing to bet he/she is a trolling kid or kid thinking their first job should be as the next Donald Trump. If not.....well....then no wonder they are working in that environment. If you don't like it, improve yourself and find better employment.

Yep, as well as a being new user, on April Fool's Day, starting a thread completely unrelated to Disney or budgeting and with no other posts on any other threads. OP should be requesting her money back from whatever institution provided that "degree". I'm not surprised that someone who can't spell "because", "are", "our", or "people" is working in that kind of (hypothetical) environment. This isn't twitter. You're not limited to 140 characters. I don't know a lot of middle-aged adults (profile says she's 51) so engaged in text speak. I'm surprised so many people are bothering with serious responses.
