Word of warning

My friend just returned from her stay at ASMo and she had a less than pleasant experience with her room. She told me that there was fecal matter on the underside of the toilet bowl rim on the inside and that they found a barrette under the covers in the made bed. Neither she nor her daughter wear barrettes so it appears that the sheets weren't changed! Has anyone else ever had an experience like this?? For some reason, she didn't tell anyone at guest services because they had a short stay. Myself, I would have. They stayed at the Dalmations building #2.

Underside of the toliet, I'm lost was it on the seat or the bowl? She should of said something, I know I would of so that is her own fault for not complaining. When I stay at HRH in Universal there was a toenail in the bed, I ddin't say anythings but I will never go back to HRH again. GUess these things can happened at any hotel including DW, with traveling comes, germs, filith and bugs, to what degree it can be mild to bad.

I've had bad experiences with housekeeping at a few hotels. Once at POFQ I could see "something" under the rim of the toilet. You could only see it from the perspective of someone sitting in the bathtub. It was clear the toliet hadn't been cleaned properly. We also noticed a lot of trash in the halls of Pop Century. Our room at CBR was dusty and we found a few gross surprises.

However, we've had way more clean rooms than dirty. We're not millionaires but have had lots of stays at Disney resorts and the hotels around Disney because we live nearby and drive over for overnight trips. Also, my husband attends meetings and conferences in Orlando. My point is that I don't think it matters so much which resort or hotel you visit. You can find clean and dirty rooms at any resort depending on the housekeeper you're assigned. Just the luck of the draw, IMO.

It sounds like your friend was unlucky. I don't really favor one resort over the other but I've personally had great luck at ASMO.

I agree with what Kay 1 said. You find any hotels good & bad. Saying this that person should have said something if her room wasn't up to par. It does no good to complain about after the fact for something that should have been said at the time she was there so the resort could have fix it or change her to another room however short the stay was MHO :) I am sorry she had a nasty room.

And you still want to tip housekeeping?:furious:

That's exactly how she saw it, giving her child a bath.

I agree, she should have spoken to someone at guest relations. I want to add, my family and I stayed at ASMo (Toy Story) in October and our room was perfectly clean although I have to say her situation with the barrette in the bed still spooks me. I mean, if there are no obvious stains, how would you know if the sheets had been changed?
I'm not ranking on ASMo at all but I thought I should just mention it anyway. If for no other reason, I will be checking the room out throroughly from now on no matter where I stay.

Our ONE and ONLY stay at ASMo was horrible. Our luggage was taken to another guests room and lost for 12 hours. Our floor was soaked and we needed a huge fan for a full day to dry it. The room was nasty and had marker, crayon and pencil marks everywhere. The bathroom looked like a 3 year old cleaned it and there was a sock from the last guests under our bed. We were credited two nights stay after my complaints. I will NEVER stay there again!!!!

Just wanted to add that I agree that this is a housekeeping issue not a resort issue primarily.

Is it possible the barrette was the housekeeper's and she lost it while making the bed?:confused3

What we do to keep things clean and healthy.

Step 1: When we arrive in any hotel room - we check the toilet, sink and bathtub drain to see if they are working properly. The kids check the phone and TV.

Step 2: We also check the bed - lift the mattress and look behind the bedboard for bedbugs. We open drawers to see if they slide and not fall out and for dirt.

Step 3: We take off the top covers of the bed and look for clean sheets and pillow cases (we once found a shoe foot print!).

Step 3A: If anything of the above is wrong, dirty, or not working we call maitenance or housekeeping to fix, repair, replace, or change.

Step 4: If all is good, I take out my clorox wipes and plastic gloves and clean the insides of drawers, counter tops and the bathroom. The kids and DH go out to look around the hotel and DH gets a coffee while I clean.
Then I finally unpack.

At WDW - since we arrive before our room is ready, we go to DTD or a park.
Then when our room is ready - we start our room inspection from Step 1 above. I pack Clorox wipes & plastic gloves in our suitcase. At WDW I also clean the refrigerator.

Please do not call me a neat freak. I am not. But I do like a clean room to avoid any digestional problems while at WDW.

Washing hands before meals is a biggie with me too. Too many hands at WDW touching hand rails, rides, seats, and turnstyles. Germs do die exposed to outside air - but best to wash hands before eating at WDW.

Please, before we get on yet another "housekeeping bad, very bad", let's remember that this is ONE incident. But the negatives will always get posted. We don't post the average or above average stays. But we will post the exceptional stays and the negative ones. The extremes.

This is very sad. I'm tempted to start a thread about how immaculate my rooms have been at every WDW resort I've been to.

First and foremost, she should have immediately complained to housekeeping and she should have stood right there while they recleaned and disinfected her bathroom. When we have traveled to other hotels and had a similar problem that is what I have done. No one is perfect and people will make mistakes/be lazy but coming here and making reports like this when the offended party didn't give the resort a "make ammends" chance isn't fair.

The barrette....I was thinking like one of the other posters.....it was the mousekeepers and she was probably praying that it didn't turn up in someones bed! The poor thing! She probably makes $6.50/hr and was terrified of getting a bad report. I would have left the barrette with a note and asked her to please completely change out the linens the next day.

Look bottom line....if you are going to be at a resort for a period of time you can either make these people your friends by treating them with respect and consideration or alienate them by expecting too much. I prefer the former, stop my mousekeeper in the hall and explain that we put all used towels we want replaced in the tub, would like our bedding changed after 3 days (seriously how often do you wash your sheets at home?????), let them know if we've spilled something, talk to them directly if possible if there is a problem and guess what....if you leave a tip BEFORE the end of your stay....even on day 1.....you will get much more kindness shown to you.

Just my humble rantings......

Okay well I will say that we stayed at ASMo from May 18th - 24th in the Dalmations building #2. Our experience was fine. I did notice that they need to try to get some crayon markings off the walls and that someone did a horrible job when doing some repair work to the tile in the shower wall but all and all it was exactly what I expected it to be. When my son spilled something on the bed they changed the sheets and when they realized we were going through so many towels from going to the pool they left us an extra stack on the bed.

I will say the funny part is this. I did have a hair barrett packed in my suitcase that seemed to vanish! :lmao: Although I'm certain its not the one she found in her bed.

I really think it's the individual housekeepers themselves and not necessarily the resort. We had a bad housekeeping experience at one of our favorite resorts, but we realize it was the housekeeper because we had friends staying at the same resort with us (different housekeeper) and they had a wonderful housekeeping experience. We have since stayed at this resort again and had a very positive experience. I think the key is to let the resort management know about the individual housekeeper so hopefully the bad apples can be weeded out.

There are other people to blame not just mousekeeping. The parents / grandparents / guest. We clean up after our kids (6 and 1.5) they don't make that much of a mess because they know bettter. Do these people allow their kids to color all over the walls at their home. The floor was prob wet from cleaning it because of the guest before you. What time of the year were you there was it so busy that they could not put you in another room? SO all in all you can not only blame mousekeeping for these things.

You go on vacation to start your vacation cleaning? I go on vactaion to get away from it all.

I'm with Pooh2001 (although I've not wiped out the dresser drawers before). I just feel better doing my own beige glove test (it's not a white glove, but I do have standards) before settling in. I have only had one problem inspection at WDW -- the retractable cord in the shower was fixed and the over bed lightbulb was replaced very quickly. The maintenance guy was really nice and said that they appreciate guests letting them know when things aren't right -- they aren't always things that the housekeepers will notice. (Dirty toilets aren't in that category, but . . .)

I think like any hotel there are bound to be a few problems here and there and I wouldn't let that deter you.If there was a problem, she should have immediately had it addressed, griping about how awful it is after the fact does not help anyone if you don't apprise mgmt of the situation right then and there.I have had some issues with mousekeeping on my trips in the past and I let mgmt know immediately.i didn't let it ruin my trip.Anybody can have an off day.

Yes, we had a similar experience at All Star Sports. We arrived in the room late, pulled down the bedspread and blanket and found a large yellow (dry) stain on the sheet. It was late, so we slept there anyway (I know, yuck). We complained the next day and asked for fresh linens. They were very prompt and nice about it. We weren't able to tell whether the sheets had been changed and it was just a sheet that should have been thrown away, or if the sheets hadn't been changed.
