I sat down and pitched a "small" fit and said LOOK ITS TOO FAR TO DO ALL THAT DRIVING AND WE WON'T GET TO DO ANYTHING!!!!

They gave in!! Woo-hoo!!! They agreed that we could fly to Portland sometimes late next year and look at things there for the "possible" move.

The vacation is........a road trip to Las Vegas (only one night spent on the way going and coming back!) then a few nights in Vegas, drive to San Diego and spend a few nights at the Hotel Coronado and then to DISNEY!!!!!!!!! YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any advice on where to stay in Vegas?? I'm thinking ""possibly"" Circus Circus even though its an older place I'm thinking of John-Cole who is 12.

"late next year" you didnt win, you lost. They think you will forget about it by then.

I don't think that I would stay at Circus Circus, but then again, I have no young children travelling with me :teeth:

Ooh, the Hotel del Coronado!!! I would LOVE to stay there. Where are you staying at Disneyland?

Congratulations on making your point. This sounds like an excellent trip now.

No Jason....LOL....the Vacation trip to Vegas and Disney is in either June or July depending on the prices of hotels etc. that I can find.

The trip to Portland will be late next year when we can fly there!

Oh and I have NO IDEA where we are staying at Disneyland......I have to go look and get suggestions!! I am now going into major planning mode!!

oh, long post then

yay!!! Now at least you'll be able to see something besides road signs.

When I was a child I thought Circus Circus was neat. However that was over 30 years ago. When DH and I went two years ago it was so disgusting we could barely stand to be in there for a few minutes. We didn't stay there, just walked around. The stale smoke odor was very bad. ExCaliber was also very kid friendly and was old but didn't seem as bad. Treasure Island looked like it would be kid friendly and it is newer.

We stayed at the Luxor. It was clean, not very smokey, and connected to ExCaliber - which has arcades etc.

LOL Jason!

The last time we were there Excalibur was just being built. My family are not gamblers so we will probably be doing the inside theme park, maybe taking the tour of Hoover Dam, I can't wait to see the fountain at Vilagio (I think??) and oh the one like Venice is it the Venetian maybe...LOL!

Personally I can't wait to just see the Pacific Ocean and the Hotel Del Coronado I know will be breathtaking in itself.

Oh those that have been to Disneyland, how long does it take to do Disneyland and California Adventure?? Where would you all suggest staying??

Also, go to the downtown casinos to see the light display over the walkway, I can't think of the name of it but it's well-known.

At Disneyland, if you stay onsite I would try for the Grand Californian. It's pricey but very similar to the Wilderness Lodge and the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I'm not familiar with the other Disneyland hotels except that I noticed that the original Disneyland Hotel is not really themed.

Keep in mind that the offsite hotels are right there and it's easy to walk from many of them to the parks. If you stay offsite, I recommend the Candy Cane Inn which is on the same block and is a very nice little inn.

Excalibur would be better. Circus Circus is kinda seedy IMHO.

I agree. Or the Luxor (SP?) is neat too. Circus Circus is sort of the Motel 6 of the strip these days.

Another vote for this.
the fountain at the Belagio is beautiful....a free show all by itself!

Summer time at least 2 days for Disneyland and 1 for CA Adventure.....of course more is better ;)
Grand CA is beautiful.....but very pricey.
We're trying the Disneyland Hotel in July this time.

Circus Circus is a DIVE...do NOT stay there.

Vegas is not really a kid-friendly city (despite their attempts to make it that way a few years ago). If you want to do some of the kid attractions with your son I'd say Excalibur, Luxor, New York New York or MGM would be good choices...lots of the "kid" stuff is at that end of the Strip. There are TONS of Vegas trip planning sites, if you really want to spend some time there, and you should check those out.

For DL there are TONS of offsite hotels that generally offer less expensive prices than the three onsite hotels. Depending upon when you are there you can do DL in about 2 days and DCA in 1 day. Crowds will definitely impact that. Go check out the DL board for help.

Glad you convinced your husband he was crazy. ;)

We were at DL last July, and we stayed at the Grand Californian. It was really beautiful and worth it IMO. The best part of staying there was the entrance to CA. We rode the Grizzly River Run rapids ride (which is right across form the Grand CA entrance), got soaked, went to our room and changed and were back in the park 20 min. later. As mentioned before you could do DL in 2 days, and CA in 1, but we were always going back and forth between the two parks, as the entrances to both parks are right across from each other. CA had the X Games Experience while we were there last July and we were catching the skateboarders, MX, and BMXer's that DS's wanted to see. It is what really made CA worth it for us.

You couldn't pay me to stay at Circus Circus. Try to stay on the south end of the strip (anything from the Venetian on south is the best). Excalibur is not my favorite either, it is kind of dark and dismal in there. I would try for New York New York instead if your son likes roller coasters and arcades. If you want an amazing pool area, go with the Flamingo, but make sure you ask for a room that has already been renovated, some of the older rooms are really nasty. If money is no object then go with Mandalay Bay. Their pool area is more of a water park and it is a gorgeous hotel.

We'll be there in June at the Luxor - to see Barry at Mandalay Bay. :teeth: :bounce:

I am happy for you that your trip has become more managable. I told DH of your earlier post and he mentioned something about a National Lampoon story. Hope you have fun.

I'd still fly. You're looking at 26 hours to drive to Vegas! It takes me 13 hours to get to WDW, and I can't imagine another 13 hours in my car-esp since the drive across Texas is SOOOOOOOO boring.
