Three years ago I moved from one town to another. I love my bank in my old town, but it's a local bank and has no other branches. Every time I'd have a live check or cash to deposit, I'd have to drive aaaaaaalllllllll the way back to my old town to take care of it, about 30 minutes in good trafic. Since I get reimbursed from my company for various expenses related to me working from home, I get a live check at least once a month.

So, I was kicking around the idea of opening just a basic checking acount at the Chase branch about 5 minutes from my house, just so I could have a local place to cash checks, I'd still use my old bank (with their wonderful, personal serivce) for all my serious banking, and just use the Chase account for my "allowance money" and the ocasional cash withdrawl from the ATM.

I already have a Chase credit card, and one day while logging in to check my statement, an ad popped up saying if you opened a new account with Chase and had direct deposit, they'd give you $125!

Sold! :woohoo:

I opened up the account about a month ago, my first direct deposit from my payroll went in on Friday, and today I updated my Quicken and saw that they deposited the money! :yay:

Now, what do I spend it on??? :teeth:

Oh, and meanwhile, I've already been able to cash several live checks localy, instead of having to wait until I have the time and inclination to drive all the way to my friendly bank in the other town. This is great, I should have done this sooner!

Thats great!

Wait till after the holidays than buy yourself something you want but might not have got!

My new WaMu is doing something similar, I would have to deposit $100 and leave it there for 30 days and then they will give me $100. I'm thinking why not??

Congrats, spend it well!! :)

Great offer! I am a saver so I would keep it until you find something you really need and then use the money.

I just took advantage of this very same offer at the Chase Bank in my town! But this one was for $100. I opened the account with money I set aside for our next Disney trip, and now the account is my dedicated Disney fund!! How could you pass up free money?? Several years ago I opened an account at Keybank when they were giving away Ipods; that was pretty neat!:cool1:

When you come across a good one, I say go for it!

And use the money for DISNEY!!!

Sheesh Chicago526, if I didn't know better I would say you were me! We moved just west of Elgin about two years ago, I too kept my accounts at our local bank in our old town. Since I haven't pulled the trigger on moving my accounts, I still have to drive aaaaaaaalll the way to my old town (passing my old house on the way) to deposit checks. It is also about a 30 minute hike in the car! :headache:

I am going to follow your very good example and get to the local Chase or BofA and open new accounts. Now I just need to figure out who is going to give me the best deal!

Thanks for the reminder that I needed to finally take care of this! :)
