Woolworths

Woolworths is right in the middle of my town and its sort of like a trademark for me haha. I prefer Woolworths to stores liek HMV for CD's as HMV overcharges for their CD's (like one would have costed me about £24 in HMV and Woolworths had it for alot cheaper). Internet buying is causing alot of problems for stores, I online shop because the stuff I want some Stores don't think would be a good choice to sell (Like older CD's instead of just new ones).

I find Woolworths as abit of a mix match. The store in our town always seems empty and could do with abit of a makeover. I think it is such a shame for their staff especially this time of year.

We havent had a Woolworths in the centre of Cardiff for a few years now and it was sorley missed when it first went, we have a very small one on the outskirts which always appears to be busy and its a real shame whats happening to them. I work in Retail and have done for 30 years and have a link to Woolworths as they are a concession in some of our stores as we are, in their bigger Big W stores and every single high street store is feeling it at the moment.

You only have to look around and see how many of the big players and well as the cheaper end of the market are doing discounts, friends and family, early sales etc to see how bad things are for the retail sector.

It is so sad to hear this news, partly because Woolies are an institution and beloved by many.

We did used to buy things here.

I am still amazed they didn't manage to keep going until after Christmas, though I suppose it could simply have been impossible from a cash perspective.

I fear there will be many more to follow over the coming months

Feel so sorry for the staff.

I pre-ordered a few DVDS, most of them have arrived, i still have 3 left to be delivered.

2 of them are due tomorrow, do you think i should try else where or is there a slim chance i may still get them from Wollies.

When I pre-ordered Mamma Mia from Woolies it arrived on the Saturday before it's release. I've pre-ordered Camp Rock from them and it's released tomorrow and I didn't get it yesterday

Currys group have admitted they are £30 million in the red but I think more people would be interested in buying up Currys group if they choose to sell.

Its just a shame Woolworths didn't take the person up on the offer of selling in the summer

I think a few of the major supermarkets are interested in Woolworths. On this evening's news they mentioned that a lot of the stores already have planning permission to sell food - I'd almost forgotten that they sold food years ago. (As did Littlewoods and British Home Stores.)

Sainsburys already buy from Woolworths, as Woolworths own Entertainment UK which supplies dvds, cds & games to Sainsburys.

The only problem with the supermarkets wanting to buy Woolworths could see them go the way Safeway did before they became Morrisons as a supermarket chain can only own a certain % of the market due to competition rules, which is why Sainsburys, Asda & Tesco couldn't individually buy Safeways outright & it had to be broken up.

Personally I would cancel the order, if it has been preordered they should have made sure they could at least honour the pre order.

Could you try & call them to cancel the order?
