I have heard today that Woolworths are calling in the Administrators :scared1: OMG that shop has been in our town for years and if it goes it will leave a huge scar in the centre :guilty: So there goes another big name - we lost our Allders, Index and MFI too

I have been following this most of the day, such a shame.
Does anyone know where i stand on a pre-order i made last week using my debit card?.Should i cancel the order with the bank if the money has'nt already been taken?.x.

It's a shame, Woolies has been around forever :( The Nuneaton MFI closed the other week too

Didn't realise the Nuneaton MFI had already closed. Didn't notice when we went to ASDA last Friday night.

Woolworths has been struggling for ages. Just can't compete with the specialist High Street shops and t'internet. It will be a shame to see them dissapear :sad2:

I remember going to Woolies with my grandma as a child and buying lovely loose biscuits!

I have a friend who works in Woolies and they have been told they may turn up one day and the door will be closed!!!

They are no longer getting stock deliveries and have been told there will be no Boxing Day sale - sound though they wont be round that long!!!

I know the Woolies in our town is really old and run down and there is nothing in there you cant get in our Tesco Extra, Argos or Asda - its just a shame so many may loose their jobs :confused3

I stopped shopping in Woolworth when our local store had a refit a few years ago. It used to be nice to have a browse but the new shelving is so high and angled so that you can't see other parts of the store or the exit - too claustrophobic for me (and a lot of my friends have said the same).

It's really sad, my Saturday job when I was at school was at Woolies and both my Mum and Sister both worked at Woolies Head Office........ it's almost a family institution :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

I sure am sorry to hear about this. In San Francisco, Ca. I used to love visiting and shopping at the Woolworths Store (There were three, I shopped at the one that was on the corner of Powell and Market St.) Most unfortunately, it closed it's doors, many years ago now.
I was happy to see that the company was in business in the U.K. Now it looks like they will be closing down there too. I hope that everyone will be able to find a good job and soon. It is a tough economic time in the United States, and abroad as well. Hopefully, there will be a positive turn around for all concerned.

I was so shocked to see this in the news! MFI has closed down here and theres so many other smaller shops that are really struggling. I really feel for anyone who might loose their jobs:guilty:

I say, it may as well be the United States regarding closures, and lay off's. :( This is just so bad!

such a shame, our woolies has had practicaly empty shelves fro weeks now :sad2:

Thanks.I went to my bank and got a statement+no money has been taken.I went into Woolworths+spoke with the manageress(who is also a friend of mine)and she said that with pre-order's your card is swiped but payment is'nt taken until the day of delivery or sometimes the day before(8th dec in my case). She said that if one day before that date, Woolworths is closed or they have no wish in sending out the DVD they won't take the money out.Lets hope this is the case,as for now i have'nt done anything.I am going to see what happens come the weekend.
My Woolies is still getting a delivery every day+one is still scheduled for tomorrow.x.

nothing to do with high street specialist stores - they're going under too. Its Tesco mentality thats killing these stores.

Woolies are typically high street / town centre stores. They generally dont have car parks, so you have to pay and park your car, buy your stuff and then walk back to the car trudging all your gear.

OR - you can drive to Tesco's/Sainsurys ets, park for free, take a couple of trolleys, buy all your weekly food and get your toys/cd's/DVD's (Woolies main staples), and at Christmas time you use up all your Tesco's reward points you've gained through the year and get the toys etc even cheaper. Take the trolley right up to the car and off you go. Hardly any effort at all.

It will be really sad to see them go - but I'm as guilty as the next person by abandoning them, when we lived in the UK, as the convenience of shopping for everything in one store.

Look at SuperWalmarts in the US - I wouldnt dream of trapsing down to downtown Orlando to scour out little stores like Woolies when one trip to Walmart and I'm good for everything.

We often pop in to our local branch they usually have good prices on kids clothing and toys but the games are expensive compared to online companies. I know that lately they have tried to price match other high street shops but even they charge too much for some stuff too.
My sister in law has been working in our "Woolies" store for years, the staff are a good group of people to work with and they love to have fun. It would be sad to see them lose their jobs and a very worrying time for all of them.

When Woolworth's have their half price toy sale in June you can't beat their prices but as for DVD's and games etc they just can't compete with online stores.

In Pontefract, my nearest town, if and when Woolies closes this will leave just Boots, WH Smith and M&S Food. The rest of the town has been taken over by mobile phone shops!

I'm as guilty as the next person for finding the cheapest price for something and as a result so many companies are going under. I feel really bad now that this has had such an impact.

must admit I haven't brought anything from there in years, can get the stuff cheaper else where like amazon.
