I just booked my December airplane tickets to orlando. A few months back, my husband and I both opened up a SW visa (actually, closed a few other chase cards we don't use and opened this one) when they were having their 50,000 point promotion.

I bought 5 roundtrip tickets from Phx to MCO for $548!! Yea!!

I spent $325 purchasing more points
$25 fees
$198 annual fees for cards

This would have cost me $1880 otherwise!

And the savings with no baggage fees is huge! Happy dance and finishing my last step to planning this vacation feels so good!

ETA: forgot...still need trip insurance....any suggestions on companies and when to buy?

I did the same promotion but have not purchased tickets yet. What is the advantage of buying more points? Can you pay cash for the difference or is there a financial advantage to the points?

Thanks.

As far as I could figure out....you have to buy more points to cover what you do not have....I didn't see a way to just pay for the rest of the cost.

And...you only can buy in 1000 point increments (OK on one...had to buy a few hundred extra on another). But oh well...still a good deal.
