Has anyone else stayed at the Woodstock Inn in Vermont? We have booked time there this summer over the 4th of July, but have never been there, so any info would be appreciated. thanks..

I have not stayed there but it certainly has a reputation as being among the best places to stay in New England. Woodstock itself is a very quaint Vermont town.

TeamMMouse, please report on The Woodstock Inn after your visit. My wife and I plan on doing a 3 day getaway there at some point.

You will love it, and Vermont!
Make sure to stop by the Ben and Jerry's, and Cabot Cheese factory, The Von Trapp Family Resort - also get your maple syrup while you are there. Many wonderful towns and sites to see while you are there - go into Woodstock and over to White River Junction (King Arthur Flour Co.) to see the gorge.
Michael J. Fox and Charles Bronson own farms there and often are around town doing their shopping, banking, etc.

Notice that there are no billboards and the highways are generally kept very clean (trash).

Enjoy!

I grew up in Woodstock Vermont and have gone to the Woodstock Inn as an adult many times. Last time we used our Disney points.

It is beautiful. Many things to do around town and at the Inn. The Inn is in a truly a wonderful location on the Village Green right across from a covered bridge. (It's actually re-built. The original burned I think in the 1970's). A perfect Vermont Postcard!

Great golf course and gym (with indoor swimming pool). My DH loves to jog along the river on a route that goes from one covered bridge in Woodstock to the next covered bridge in Taftsville.

Happy Birthday Cat -
I bet you even know how to say "Quechee"!!!!!!
My best friend lives in Hartland and works at Dartmouth - spent many a wonderful vacation there and it is definitely worth a trip from anywhere!
Especially in the autumn!

Kwee-chee

Although the necessary accent can't come through on the computer;) It comes more naturally when I have skiis attached to my feet as well.

Okay, now I recognize you as an authentic "Green Mountainman" and NOT a "Flatlander", you may proceed!

I do so miss my cross country skiing days! Ohh the joy! Ohh the pain!

; )

DBF's ex-wife and daughter live on a dairy farm in Chester Vt. I've never stayed at Woodstock Inn, but we've been through there and Queechee too! You are going to love it. Lots of neat little shops everywhere too!

Have a great time!

Is there anything to do for kids? We're thinking about Woodstock for a night or two in the fall.

Nearby is the Billings Farm and Museum. A real working Vermont dairy farm with lots of interesting things for the kids. Not open in the winter though. The Inn has a big sports complex with an indoor pool. They also have a putting green right in the back which our kids love to go out and use. Very close by are hiking trails. Of course in the winter there is skiing, skiing and skiing. Cross country and down hill. They have there own mountain, Suicide Six. There is also a great sledding hill at Mt. Tom that kids go nuts over.

About 7 miles down the road at Quechee Gorge, they have a hot air balloon festival in June. Also nearby is an area with over 100 antique shops. They also have a very nice Christmas shop in the same mall area, (not a shopping mall as we know it) along with a 1950's type silver diner. They have a children's train ride (and adults too) that goes around the perimiter of the mall. It also has a nice state park across the street for picnics. The Gorge itself is beautiful. Pierce Glass (demonstrates glassing blowing) shop is also very interesting. It also has a very nice restaurant in the same shop - right on the river. If you call or write to the chamber of commerce, they will send you a wonderful map of Vermont that highlights all of the many things to do in and around the Woodstock area. (Check the internet - you may be able to order directly without calling.) Woodstock is in the center of the state so you could drive approximately 2 1/2 hours either way for day trips and see just about the whole state!

Woodstock also has some very nice "upscale" type shops. It's the most beautiful town in all of New England. Especially at Christmas. I lived in upstate Vermont for 10 years, and now in New Hampshire for 14, but Vermont is the most beautiful state of all New England. No bill boards anywhere! Just nature at it's best. If you want to experience the real "flavor" of Vermont, Woodstock is the place to go!
