Wooden Leg Named Smith

I read in some Disney World books that in the train station in Frontierland, there is a wooden leg with the word "Smith" on it in reference to the Mary Poppins joke. So we decided to get on the train at that station. I couldn't find it so I asked the CM working and she said people ask about it all the time but she doesn't know where it is and she said she thinks it's a myth anyway. She said she had been working there since May. So my question is..was the CM right and the wooden leg named Smith doesn't exist or does it only exist at Disneyland. OR was that CM just plain wrong and I missed it??

It's in WDW.

I have seen the picture posted by Reddog1134. However, our family went to the Frontierland Train Depot in Fall 2010, specifically because I wanted to see the wooden leg in person. It was not there. The CMs at the train depot didn't have any knowledge of it, either. So my guess is the posted picture is old and the wooden leg was possibly removed after a refurb. Or, perhaps it even goes back to the old Frontierland train station that was demolished before Splash was constructed. I don't have any interior pics of the old train depot, so I am only speculating.

Anyone at MK, help us out by taking a look, please.

Personally, I haven't seen it in MK. It used to be at Pleasure Island...having a mental cramp and can't remember the name of the Adventurers Club or something like that. I apologize for not remembering the name cause it is an attraction loved and missed by many. Anyway, it didn't move until they closed Pleasure Island so it hasn't been there very long...it's probably still there someplace...maybe the main train station at the head of Main Street.

I'm about half-way through the book "The Hidden Magic of WDW" and the wooden leg is mentioned in it. I was looking forward to seeing it on our next trip, so I'm kinda bummed it has gone missing. If anyone knows the story on the missing leg, I'd love to hear it:earsboy:

I've seen it. It was several years ago though. I thought it was at the entrance train station, not in Frontierland.

What is the blue and white awning in reddog's pic? next to the mouse planet stamp?
That doesn't look like something I'd see at the frontierland train station...
Is there anyway it was the toontown station?

Yes. It is at the Main Street RR Station, on the wall that is on the castle side (north wall,) as I recall.

Edit to say that all indications are that the leg (if still there) is at the Frontierland station.

I love that book! I was bummed we couldn't find it either. I'm really interested to hear if anyone knows what has become of it!

There's not much of a "story."

It is an old Vaudeville joke:

Straight man- "I once knew a man with a wooden leg, named Smith."

Comic- "What was the name of his OTHER leg?"

(rimshot)

--------------------------------------------------------------
As I recall, it was one of Walt Disney's favorite jokes and was used in the Disney film, Mary Poppins.

AHHHH..it makes more sense for it to be in the Main Street station. We got on the train there too but I wasn't looking for it there because I had heard it was at the Frontierland station. Do you know if it's still at the Main Street station?

Looks like the top of the train to me.

I thought that it might have been moved to the Main Street Station after its last major refurb,
but I can't find anything that backs that up.

Here's the LINK to the article where I found the picture.

It is an old article so it may have been moved since then but the article does state the picture is from Frontierland.

More info that I found places the leg at the Frontierland RR Station.

In the "Waiting Room" queue area in the Frontierland Staion of the WDW Railroad, there is a shelf which contains unclaimed luggage. Among the items is an antique wooden leg, with the name "Smith" written on it. A clear reference to the Wooden-Leg-Named-Smith joke from Mary Poppins.
CONFIRMED: Todd Jacob 13 DEC 98

I read both those articles, before my 2010 trip. That's why I went to check it out at the Frontierland Depot. Like I said, the wooden leg wasn't there. Internet articles like that should be re-verified every so often, or disappear. Nothing remains the same, after a decade or two. It's just the same as garbage. That hiddenmickeys story goes back to 13 Dec 98.
