WONDERous adventures on the Panama Canal - 4/23/17

I would like to Pose a question, Considering the cruise is only a year away--- Can any of you guys recommend any shore excursions ????

We were leaning towards

Cabo San Lucas -- Sport Fishing
Puerto Vellarta -- Mexican cooking

And to be totally Honest we have not been the most eager to get off the boat on Cartagena

Any comments, other ideas or suggestions welcomed

Can't really help, to be honest. We don't actually plan any DCL excursions in any of the ports. At Cozumel, we are going to do a private all-inclusive beach, at Cartagena we will be staying on board and at Puerto Vallarta and Cabo, we will disembark and explore (we plan to visit the Malecon at PV).

Last year, we did a 'Best of Cartagena' excursion with DCL which was quite good actually.

Wish I could help with what to do in port, but I am taking this to do nothing for two weeks so I won't be getting off in any of the ports.

We did not feel safe in Cartagena last year, and won't be getting off the ship there. The people there were VERY aggressive and literally putting their merchandise within inches of your nose, trying to sell it to you. One after the other - I was really getting ticked off. Also, it was hot hot hot and we were sweating a lot. That said, most of the bus tour was good, with the exception of the time spent 'in the city'. We will probably get off the ship in Cabo and rent a glass bottom boat to go to the arch - several of our tablemates did that, and it was cheap and fun. We had booked a trip through DCL to go to the arch and it was pricey and we did not get anywhere as near to the arch as they did. In fact, we got closer to the arch on the ship as we were leaving the bay! That was a real waste of money. We also hired a guy to take us to the mall (had to go to the Harley store) and he pedaled up a storm in that heat. We did pay him well above what he asked for, as he waited for us and was really nice. Last year we did not make the stop in PV because of the civil unrest, and if we get off the ship next year, it will be to find the Harley store LOL.

ha ha ha ha.. I never really thought of an excursion as doing anything... But I love your style

@siburdue (Sheri) we are not getting off at Cartagena either. I really hope we make it to PV this time.

It is the rock formation at the tip of the Baja California Sur, which is arch-shaped. There is an excursion which takes you on a boat out to the arch but you can see it perfectly well when you are sailing away from Cabo San Lucas.

Well since we have done thi s cruise several times, I love staying on a empty shop and chilling with the crew. It's soooooo relaxing.

So if we are interested in a private event, we should Pm the person listed on the front page ?

If you wish to take part in the FE exchange, please email Kimmy with the details requested.

If you would like to sign up for Mixology, I will be asking here approximately 6 months prior to the cruise (so many people sign up/drop out there isn't much point before that).

If it's any of the other events, either PM the person organising or post your interest here and we can pass a message on.

From the list on page one - what is "roaming Mickey"?
Also interested in formal night pic, group Palo, and any info on May the 4th kids FE exchange & ice cream social

Thanks!

Roaming Mickey is a magnet - you put it on the doors of the people on the list, it gets passed from door to door and people write messages on it. When you get it back it has all the messages on and is a nice memento of the cruise.

I will post the time for the formal night picture, once it has been agreed.

@BartmanLA (Barton) is planning to organise the group Palo brunch.

Again, myself or Molli will post the info for the May the Fourth ice-cream social and exchange.

Totally looking forward to may the forth ice cream social and private mixology info :) magnet exchange and roaming mickey could be fun too. How much is the private embarkation party usually? Just curious. I'm so excited there sounds like so many group things happen on longer cruises :)

I didn't realize that the group would have so many fun things to get involved in. This is awesome. Just realized that on cinco de mayo we will be in cabo. Can't wait.

Hello, just wanted to say hi to everyone. This will be our 6th DCL cruise but first on the Wonder. I am MIL to busdriverbrad. We have been waiting to take this cruise since 2012. Looking forward to a fun trip.
