WONDERous adventures on the Panama Canal - 4/23/17

2 questions, what is a cabin crawl and also what is the Fitbit challenge and will a I watch work in place of fitbit

I think the cabin crawl is your chance to see other types of cabins on the ship, but I may be wrong, Someone will correct me if I am::yes:: As for the I watch, I am not in the Fitbit group so I have no idea!

Not that I want to try this, but can you do this cruise with no passport(only a birth certificate)? Just a random thought that I thought I would ask about:goodvibes

I do not know the correct 100% answer for this... But when I booked this cruise, the CM did ask me if all the parties have passports.. And I can not believe that you would want to do this cruise with out a one. If something happened and you needed to leave the boat for a medical emergency, you will need your Passport then to reenter the country...

I would call the fine folks at Disney Cruise Line and just ask them... after all they will be the ones to settle this.

And when you find out please share the answer.. Many thanks

Gosh I love Cabin Crawls.... Its always great to see the other cabins on the ship... That way you know what cabin to book for your next cruise.... But you have to get a large number of people to participate or its no fun at all...

Sorry no, I would never do this, I was just curious if you could. I always have my passport with me, even if I am only flying from state to state as you never know when you will have to leave the country:lmao:

It's a good question. I've gotten so used to closed loop cruises that it's not something that immediately comes to mind as a concern. Assuming the question refers to a US passport, the US Department of Homeland Security requires it for a PC cruise and mentions it as a specific example on their website (or at least, this is how I've interpreted it):

"If, on the other hand, you - say - board a cruise ship in San Diego, California, sail through the Panama Canal (stopping at a foreign port during the cruise), and end the cruise in Miami, Florida, you have not taken a closed loop cruise and the following information does not apply to you. As of June 1, 2009 you need a passport (including infants)." Source: https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/1139/~/documents-needed-to-take-a-cruise

I don't use a pedometer so not familiar with the fitbit/AppleWatch options. I searched a bit on this and it looks like there's an app, Sync Solver, out there to help with this but sthere are some issues.

I have not participated in a cabin crawl but I would think it is what @Huskiesrule described. I've heard that other things can be added to the event, like a card game played across all the staterooms or a candy offering in each room, but I don't know anything more about that.

Also want to reiterate how great it is that this thread is so active. I've learned so much from the DISboards - it's a great site - and I'm still learning from all these questions. And beverage-talk isn't a bad thing either. :rolleyes1 I'm partial to 'tequila-infused' beverages myself, but always open to suggestions. :listen:

It's horrible that while I am sitting at work random cruise questions pop in my head and then I have to ask everyone here! I don't want to be the only one Wondering:thumbsup2 On another note - May the 4th be with you today:darth::chewy:

Checking in from NY. We were able to book this the first day possible, but then left immediately for our trip to Aulani. Looking forward to all the sea days, going through PC and meeting everyone!

:welcome: I am jealous of your trip to Aulani. Actually, I am really jealous that you got to go to Hawaii:sad:

Isn't there a meet and greet on embarkation day with candy involved or am I thinking of a different event? Just say chocolate and I am there:mickeybar

Hello @QuiltTeddy ! :teeth: Based on your DISname, is it safe to say that you are a quilter?
On another note - May the 4th be with you today:darth::chewy:

As a result of my upbringing, my automatic response is, "And also with you". :goodvibes

Yep, between the candy M&G, the pillow chocolates, the ginormous room service chocolate chip cookies, and the Mickey bars, there's no shortage of chocolate on board. I even read there was a chocolate buffet on last year's WBPC cruise. I can't imagine how beautiful a dessert buffet must be! :magnify::cake::lovestruc:love:

Happy Cinco de Mayo! :cool2:

Ooh, a dessert buffet. Yet another reason to enjoy a longer cruise.

I'm getting the impression you are a dessert connoisseur... Do you have a favorite or are you an equal opportunity sweets-eater? ;)

You are correct! Now, the question is can you figure out the rest? LOL

Do I win a Mickey Bar if I guess correctly? :rotfl2: I'm really bad at tests so I confess, I googled 'teddy' and 'ny'. :guilty: Does it refer to the Teddy Bear? :dog2:

We usually leave our car at the airport for flying vacations, but with this trip being so long, we were looking at other options. I was looking at hiring a car service to drive us there and back since the local airport shuttle at the hotel near us doesn't run on Saturdays. The cost compared to parking is about a break even for a vacation of this length. Does anyone else ever use a hired car service for airport transportation? Any general tips for using a car service?

I am an equal opportunity dessert eater although mom(who is going with) loves the tiramisu. Since I am not a coffee fan I avoid that one:crazy2:
I'm like you and usually leave the car at the airport, but for this cruise I am going to take a bus to the airport and leave my car at their parking lot. At $2 a day vs. $10+ at the airport, they win. Unless I find someone to drive me in which case it will be even cheaper. I am lucky that I live close to several major airports so I have options.

They have stopped doing those on the 7 day cruises????, so that would be neat.. Not that I needed it, but I do miss the Dessert Buffet.

Hello Everyone! Myself, My hubby, and our two children, DS 13 & DD 10 will be joining you all on this journey from coast to coast. This will be our 5th Disney Cruise. After reading so many positive reviews of the Panama Canal cruises, and the huge pitch from our server on our Wonder cruise 2 weeks ago, I added this to my bucket. I'm so excited! I am looking forward to participating in several of the many group activities already being organized. Sounds like this will be a really fun group.

Good morning from the UK. As already stated, a cabin crawl is where a group of people get together to check out the different types of stateroom son the ship. It can be quite interesting to see the different room types. If you would be willing to participate, let me know what category you have and I will gladly add you to the list.

I am still working on finding out who has the Walt Disney suite booked on our cruise ;)

Unfortunately, the Fitbit challenges are done using the Fitbit app so guessing you need to have one to participate. Having said that, we are planning to have a group who will walk deck 4 in the early mornings on sea days and also somebody is talking about organising a virtual 5K onboard. Info will be posted by Molli (@ohMom) once details are finalised.

Gosh I love Cabin Crawls.... Its always great to see the other cabins on the ship... That way you know what cabin to book for your next cruise.... But you have to get a large number of people to participate or its no fun at all...

Yeah, hopefully we will have at least one cabin from each category and a good spread across decks.

Sorry no, I would never do this, I was just curious if you could. I always have my passport with me, even if I am only flying from state to state as you never know when you will have to leave the country:lmao:

Since the 2016 WBPC cruise saw one passenger having to leave us at Guatemala, due to a medical emergency, I wouldn't even consider it (even if you could)

I'm always up for beverage-related discussions :drinking1

:welcome: @QuiltTeddy - I am guessing you are a crafter. I am so jealous of anybody who is in any way crafty or arty as I am the complete opposite. Glad to have you aboard.

There certainly is :thumbsup2

The dessert buffet on the 2015 WBPC really was a sight to behold - but very, very busy - the line went from the entrance to Tritons all the way through the atrium and around to the Route 66 area.

:welcome: to you - I love the fact that your server persuaded you to take this cruise. It really is a great cruise, he (or she) steered you right.
