WONDERous adventures on the Panama Canal - 4/23/17

We went to DL straight after last year - we drove up from SD, stayed a couple of nights and then flew home from LAX. Next year we plan to just drive up to LAX straight from SD to fly home the same day.

May I ask how you drove up there... Rent a car???? Or is there another service???

You really should read the book, actually you are obligated since you gave it to others of us to read. Mandatory reading for you! As to airfare, United dropped to $134 to MCO - I think that is good but mom wants to hold out for Southwest. Not like I need to book airfare almost a year out, but still... I feel your pain on flying from overseas as I remember how much it cost us when we flew round trip to London. I would go back but there is this weird thing I'm addicted to called Disney! They seem to get all my $$:rotfl:

Actually, I just had a friend read it for me last year and give me the cliff notes version ;)

$134 is not bad at all - I guess you would pay for checked bags on top of that though? We flew Southwest from MCO to ATL last summer and it was a pretty good flight - and two free checked bags per person is a real bonus.

Yeah, we rented a car - took a taxi from port to the rental place, it was all very easy. We got to DL about 12.30 that same day.

Whew , it has been a cray-a-zee couple of week at my homestead. DH had shoulder surgery this week and will be home next week. So , plan is if he's not too drugged lol, we can start to look at excursions. We have a trip to NOLA this October to plan out as well.

Glad to know that folks are getting their air squared away, I'm not sure how we are handling our flights yet. And do I need to be jumping on a hotel for the Port? Last time we went directly to port we just hotwired a room and got the Days Inn.

So I take they did not mind a one way rental like that.. Can I ask about what did that cost???????

There is no additional charge for a one way rental within the state of California. We rented at San Diego and dropped off at LAX when we took our flight home 3 days later. We actually booked a Mustang convertible so we paid more than we would have for a regular car - we booked through Expedia and paid about $200 for the 3 days.

I hope your husband recovers from his surgery quickly. I have had procedures on my shoulder twice now, for an ongoing frozen shoulder issue.

I know I have seen that some people are booking hotels at the port already. I can't imagine you need to book just yet though, but I think it will be busier because of Spring Break.

Hi everybody. Just wanted to let you know that I check in here everyday but I don't usually have anything earth shattering to say.

So, I catch up with what's happening and sneak on back out again!

:ssst:

Sounds like me, I check to see what everyone is talking about and I don't have anything to add so I leave.

Not earth shattering...but we booked our flights to Orlando! What hotel to you all prefer at the port ?

:cool1: We will probably book all air next week as for some reason one of the party would like to fly 1st class home from San Diego. Not like I will argue but I have a feeling the cost will be:scared1:

I have no idea when we will book our flights. I'm not even sure they are available yet.

We never stay near the port so I can't help with the hotels near there. We tend to stay in Orlando, either at Disney or near the airport and drive over the morning of the cruise.

Anyone excited/disappointed with updates planned for the Wonder? I cannot wait to see it all in person!

I think I am more disappointed with the listed upgrades than excited. Not being a fan of the movie The Princess and the Frog I am not looking forward to Tiana's the most. At least I get a peek at it before the PC cruise since I will be on the Wonder in November. Maybe I was just hoping DCL would do more and they listed less for upgrades than I was expecting:confused3

Sorry, not feeling it. Now mom on the other hand loves the movie so she is over the top excited about Tiana's. I'll get over the atmosphere as long as the food is good.

I like what they re going to do to the ship. As someone who has been hanging out at club 33 lately the new restaurant reminds me slightly of the Jazz lounge. I am really looking forward to it. I am happy I can finally go on the Wonder and go on a water slide. I like the fact they are kinda going low key. There are bound to be a bunch of things they not saying as I think they way over did it with the Magic and it fell short of people's expectations. Well that's my perception at least.

We're joining you! We were on this year's PC and decided to rebook for next year. We flew from LAX to Miami and took the train back up from San Diego. Happy to answer any questions :)

Me, DH and DD (who will be 4 when we cruise).

:welcome: We got quiet here, but I'm sure everyone will be back!
