Wonderful Panama Canal Sept 2014

I'm going on a Disney cruise in a few days and we wanted to book the Panama Canal cruise while onboard. Before I book I wanted to know how many people were bringing small children. At the time of travel, I will have a 5 and 6 year old. I keep having images in my mind of dropping off my kids at the club and having them be the only children in there. lol We're going to have 3 other couples join us on this cruise who don't have children. I just wanted to make sure my kids have some playmates on board.

I plan in advance so that I can have things paid for in advance. When I used to be "spontaneous" I racked up huge credit card bills! As far as Disney goes. I've been on a lot of different types of vacations and some of our best experiences were on Disney vacations.

Steve, I couldn't agree with you more. Some of our best vacations are Disney vacations. Whether they be at the parks or a Disney Cruise. We too like to plan in advance. That is half the fun, the planning and anticipation of the up coming vacation. It gives you something to look forward to each day. And, like Steve said, it can save you $$$$$!!!

No kids here baileyjack123, DW and I are empty nesters. But I do believe there are some who are bringing their children along on this cruise. (Can't remember how many................and it's not a senior moment thing either..............or is it.........can't seem to remember.............but I'm sure it isn't............is it???!!? I hate when I do that!!!)

I have a co-worker who is amazed that I plan vacations so far in advance. It just boggles her mind because she is so spontaneous and she and her b/f take cruises on the spur of the moment...not Disney cruises of course. She also doesn't "get" my love for all things Disney, "don't you want to go anywhere other than Disney", I hear a lot.

I get that a lot too. I tell them it works for me....I know what I need when I need it by...charge it onto my Disney Visa for payoff and turn around and pay off Disney Visa...I get the points (right now sitting on over 1000) and no credit card bill!!

I get crow about it because "Disney" people think kids stuff. My first alcoholic beverage was at Disney's California Adventure on my 21st birthday. Plus my job is so "scary" and "intense" that on my off time I want light/fluffy stuff. Plus if I plan it out super far ahead, I put my PTO request in super early, and hey... they can't deny it or say other people put in PTO before me because I did it over a year before.

Yep...I look at such horrible things in my day-to-day work life, that Disney is my bubble. It makes me happy. It's fantasy and pure escapism.

We have booked 1 night at Disney World after the cruise. We are thinking about adding 1 night and going o Universal Studios any suggestions on the best way to get there.

All I can tell you is a cab between Universal and Disney is about $40

You are coming to DC at a good time....the weather this weekend is going to be fantastic!!! Sooooo excited for a nice weekend!
But do know that it is the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington this weekend and there are lots of events going on! So expect crowds if you will be in town this weekend!!

A 14 night cruise early during the school year is likely to have very few little ones on board. We're empty nesters, as are many of the others on this board. On past 11 and 12 night cruises during the school year ( Caribbean, Australia/New Zealand, Baltic) there was a noticeable absence of kids.

Yeah, the news showed the mall down by the Lincoln Memorial was PACKED!!!!
glad the museums were low crowds for you!!
I kept my happy little self down here in Virginia and enjoyed a lazy day today! I go to DC 5 days a week and usually the last place I want to go on the weekend is DC (unless a friend/family member is in town and wants to go....then I put on my tourguide hat and suck it up! )

I almost forgot all about the Dec. 7th 2013 cruise. Yep, we changed it as soon as we saw this 2014 Panama Canal cruise open up. We will do a Western Caribbean cruise one of these days. But when we saw that this Panama Canal cruise was ending up in Port Canaveral, and since a Panama Canal crossing cruise was on our bucket list, well we just couldn't pass it up. Hope you and your DH have fun on your Dec 7th Western Caribbean cruise Stephanie!!!

I liked the Western Caribbean cruise. It's one of the reasons why I want to go on the Panama Canal cruise. I thought Cozumel was gorgeous and there's a Jewish temple I want to visit.

When we did the Dec 2012 EBPC there were far, far fewer kids than I had ever seen before. We were told there were about 400 kids on board. This seemed to be perfect! My 9 year old had a blast. There was always room for everyone, time for everything and tons more attention from the CMs.

Want to bob around in the Goofy pool for two hours watching a movie while mom lounges pool side--no problem, there was always room. We don't even attempt the pool most of the time on other itineraries.

The Club and Lab always had kids in it, but never too many. They did many extra special activities including an actual sleepover. Which was a huge hit with kids and parents alike.

We enjoyed the most adult time ever on this cruise and I think it was because our son felt so comfortable with the quieter cruise. And with the longer time together kids really made friends with each other and you could see that they really had a lot of fun together.

It was our favourite cruise to date and I'd do it again in a heart beat. And so would my son. I don't think you need to worry about your kids not finding playmates. I bet you'll find the clubs just right.

I'm bringing mine, but they are a bit older.......10 and 13 (well, actually will be 11 and 14 when we cruise - heheh!)

However, I don't think you have to worry about your kids being "lonely". I think I would be more thrilled that they will get more individual attention, as I am SURE there will be other kids. Maybe not as many as on summer and holiday time cruises, but they won't be the only ones on board. But this way they will get more "special" treatment.

The counselors are so fantastic on every cruise we've ever been on, but sometimes I think they are just so totally overwhelmed with the sheer numbers of kids on their watch!

That was us with our southern. I really want to do a southern, but there was just ONE sea day and I love sea days. Then I saw this, we LOVED it last time we did it....and well, that's how it happened.

I completely agree with you both. The farther out I book a "super vacation", the longer I have to soak up info and pick and choose the excursions I want etc, etc, as well as save up the $$ I will need for all of it.
I'm ubber excited that my very first ever Passport came in the mail on Saturday. I no longer have to be afraid to leave the country cause I can get back in now.
I'm counting down to next month when I can book our hotel in San Diego pre cruise . Can you buy zoo tixs online? Gonna have to check into that
Almost got all of my supplies to start making our FE gifts and need a cattle prod to poke my sister to order the beads for the bracelets shes is making for me. I can see the FE I want to build in my head and pray that I can bring it to fruition. Things are coming together nice and slow without breaking my bank, and I get to participate in something you can't just throw together last minute and the greatest of those things is building long lasting friendships with my fellow cruisers. I can't wait to meet and mingle with you all.

Sadly, Chase doesn't want to give me a Disney Visa . It's all because I filed for bankruptcy after I got divorced, but I am hopeful that when I reapply in the late winter that will change. It will have been 12 years and my credit is much better with no delinquencies.

I have the same problem with bad credit (thanks former landlord, who never gave me my bills! Yeah...). But slowly building it up.

I have a couple ideas for FE gifts because of pinterest. But then again I'm also the type of person that plans X-mas gifts months in advanced (like I'm actually bummed that I don't have all my gifts bought yet.). I need to get my sewing machine set up to make my Fish Extender (Spoonflower has some really pretty fabrics that are nautical but not... I don't want "MICKEY!!!!" I want something that I could hang in my apartment and use as a mail holder. Being picky...).

Oh and I have made friends from my last 2 cruises that I'm still good friends with.
