We have only ordered take out food a couple of times since this mess all started, and each time I wondered about the hands that prepared it. Just this morning one of our small local restaurants posted on their Facebook page that one of their employees has tested positive for the virus. I don’t think I want to order take out again. Anyone else concerned about the safety of restaurant take Out food?

My family's opinion (including my mom who is a RN) is that there is cross contamination of EVERYTHING.
No matter how nutty you are about not getting the virus there's still a chance it will happen.
So we are no more afraid of take out than we are of food cooked at home with ingredients just purchased at the store.
We do what we consider to be reasonable by washing our hands often and using hand sanitizer while out.
Sometimes I wonder if its the overly cautious that tend to get it more because their immune system isn't used to fighting things off.

We've been getting takeout about once a week. I figure there's a lot more people touching the food and food containers we bring home from the grocery store than the food we would get from a restaurant right now. There's no way to know how many customers touched an item before you put it in your cart.

Nope. Take out is one of the few enjoyable things I have left. We have to limit it to once a week for financial reasons but I'm not afraid to get it.

My mother’s lack of concern for cross contamination has sent my anxiety levels through the roof for years. Thank you for making me feel a little less crazy:)

I do not worry about take out food.

I agree with every part of your post. I wanted to point out the bolded though. I've thought the same thing. There's got to be some reason for the various results in people. Whether they have underlying conditions, or are in perfect health. I'm sure scientists are studying that. Wouldn't it be funny if the ones that have mild symptoms (if any) are the ones who don't worry (before this came about) are those who don't disinfect every surface they touch, and don't worry about their hands getting the slightest bit of dirt on them (ex: those who after using the bathroom and washing their hands, use the paper towel to open the door of the bathroom, or those who wipe down every hard surface before sitting down on an airplane).

Don’t expect any studies on that...

This. I take reasonable precautions but I'm not going to live in a bubble of fear.

We've been ordering take out once a week since this started. Pick up food, drive home, bring inside, transfer food to another dish. immediately throw out the containers in the outdoor trash, wash hands. There's always a chance of contamination, but it's a slight risk I'm willing to take.

Unfortunately one of the restaurants we've ordered from has stopped the practice. I suppose they weren't covering their costs. And I know of two other places that have also closed after initially offering take out.

I agree with you! In fact, even in daily life before this, I think there are so many people that are harming themselves and their kids by over sanitizing everything.

Not worried about takeout, but we decided to try Home Chef meals for a bit to see if we like it. Don't want to do both.

I agree with you. Studies have shown that exposure to germs helps strengthen the immune system. There must be some validity to that because I work with kids (AKA walking petri dishes) every day and rarely get sick.

If you are concerned, go with the hot foods. There's little chance the virus can survive with long exposure to temps over 200f. Baking in the oven or microwaving will also kill any hitch hikers.

Cold sandwiches and salads have more risk than hot foods.

We’ve ordered chinese food 3 times. The delivery person leaves it on the step. One person removes it from their containers into ours & washes hands. We then microwave for a minute just to be extra safe.
I am avoiding takeout that would be harmed by the microwaving, like salads, burgers & fries.

I’m am usually not a germaphobe at all, and I rarely get sick. Having raised 5 kids, I dealt with so many childhood illnesses, so much that by the time my kids were in older elementary, they never got sick, because they had everything already (except for their first year of college, which is like preschool all over again.

However, I have high blood pressure and an autoimmune disease that has completely scarred my lungs. This disease would be tough for me to beat, so I’m stuck inside, we order groceries online. I just lost a friend, a healthy 52 year old. I wonder if those who are so cavalier about this situation are not in hard hit areas.
