Wonder to the Land of the Midnight Sun~~~August 20th 2012~~~

I just paid the balance of our cruise--we are paid in full! I kept hoping the price would drop, but of course that didn't happen...although it probably will now that I submitted final payment. Oh well!

Let's get this thread going! I know there are more of us out there! Post your info and I'll add it to our cruisers list. If you want to participate in a fish extender gift exchange, post that too. If we get a few people, we can do an exchange.

Let me know if you want to be added to the cruisers list a few posts up!

81 Days!!

What activities are people doing? I booked all of our activities on our own, so we're all set for port days...which is just as well because we're first time cruisers, so we still can't book via Disney yet.

Here's what I have us booked for:
Skagway: renting a car from Avis (car is booked) and driving up to Emerald Lake...stopping along the way wherever we want. This will take us all the way into the Yukon with lots of pretty scenery. On the way back I'm planning on having us stop at Caribou Crossing to do the 15 minute dog cart ride and maybe the Klondike Gold Experience too. (I actually still need to book this.)

Juneau: I booked a private whale watching tour with Adventures in Alaska. Our captain has offered to drop us off at Medenhall Glacier (and then we can take one of the blue buses (or a taxi) back to the ship--but I'm concerned that we won't have enough time, so we're going to play that by ear. Especially since I think we'll be done with whale watching (our tour starts at 8am) right at lunchtime and hungry children will not be interested in tromping around trails at a glacier when they could be eating lunch.

Ketchikan: I booked tickets on our own to see the Lumberjack Show--the same "Disney Exclusive Show" they sell tickets for via Disney...except I paid a little bit less doing it through the lumberjack website. Then we'll spend the rest of the morning visiting the town (lots of pressed penny machines here--my kids love those!) and visiting the nature center.

Victoria: I think we're going to stay on the ship. We live close enough that we can go to Canada on our own--so we're going to enjoy the ship instead.

Hey everyone!

We are from Southern California (Redondo Beach).

We also just paid in full so it's a done deal now!

RVD.

My condolences on having to shell out all that money. :rotfl: Ha, ha! Even though we had it sitting in our bank account (budgeted for the cruise) I still didn't like saying goodbye to it--amazing how much money you can spend without even leaving the comfort of your couch!

What excursions are you planning on doing? Ours are all booked (outside of Disney) but I'm hoping I can book a brunch at Palo when our booking window opens up. I suspect it is wishful thinking though...in which case I'm hoping there will be availability when we get on the ship.

Anyone else a first time cruiser like me and waiting for that 75 day booking window? We're almost there!!

All I'm needing is a Palo brunch reservation (not holding my breath on that one as I'm sure they're gone by now) and also our port arrival times. I'm glad Alaska is a cruise where it is easy to book your own port activities. It seems like this is a good choice for a first Disney cruise in more ways than one--there isn't too much to miss out on by having to wait until 75 days out to start booking things since you can book so much on your own.

This info just was posted by a returning cruiser from the first Seattle-Seattle Alaska cruise. The Pirate Party is on! (with no fireworks, of course)

Dining

Monday/departure: Cruise Casual
Tuesday/at sea: Formal
Wednesday/Tracy Arm: Cruise Casual
Thursday/Skagway:Cruise Casual
Friday/Juneau: Taste of Alaska menu/Pirate party
Saturday/Ketchikan: Semi formal
Sunday/Victoria:Cruise Casual

I know I'm mostly talking to myself in here  but is everyone booked for their excursions, Palo, nursery time, spa, etc? Did you get the port arrival time you wanted? My booking window opened last night/this morning and I was shocked that I was able to get the Palo brunch time I wanted as well as the earliest port arrival time slot. Is our cruise really empty or what? :confused3 I did notice a few sold out excursions (like the Hummer one) but I think I counted fewer than five that were sold out when I checked again this morning. Crazy!!

Bueller...Bueller :rotfl:

Maybe our cruise will be as empty as this thread...no lines for character meets, plenty of room on deck at Tracy Arm...

We will be sailing to Alaska on this cruise . I will be traveling with my sister, who will be celebrating her 50th birthday along with her 15 year old daughter. We are all platinum guests and booked all of our excursions through shoretrips.com. We usually participate in FE exchange but I am worried about luggage for a 3 week vacation. Lets see how it goes as I'm sure i can be convinced as it looks like a small group. We are sailing on the Magic to Canada on Aug 5 so I could make my treats all at once. Somebody on that cruise started a google document open to all families to post stateroom, kids names and ages. I don,t know how to do that but it is working wonderfully! Any takers?

Welcome! :cheer2:

I'll add you to our (short!) list! What excursions are you doing?

Thanks for adding us to the list. I am Mary, my sister Helen and niece Mary from NJ. I am a teacher and just got home from graduation so Summer vacation officially begins NOW! Cant wait for our trip!

Hooray for summer vacation! I have one who is on summer vacation and one who gets out next Wednesday. My mom is a teacher here in Washington and her district goes until June 27th! Yuck!

Hello People!

Wow, what a whirlwind!

The short news is that we are all still going on this cruise so we'll see y'all on the ship.

The long news is that we're actually moving up to Seattle! So our group will no longer be from SoCal. My wife, son, and I will be from Seattle (moving next month).

Kind of interesting how that turned out but I got a job offer from Seattle and after some negotiation, I accepted the offer. So things have been busy putting our house down here up for sale, flying up to Seattle to look at houses, etc.

As for excursions and meals, we have a Palo reservation but I usually just go straight to the reservations area as soon as we board the ship and make reservations for Palo there. Selection is usually much better.

We didn't book excursions yet. The car rental idea sounds pretty good actually so maybe we'll do that at one of the locations.

I just booked this cruise on Friday! This will be my 4th Disney cruise. I just got off the Fantasy June 16th. It was fantastic!! I sailed with my mom and DS 11 & DD 9. My husband couldn't get away from work. This time it will just be hubby and me. It is our 18th Anniversary on Aug 20th! We sailed to Alaska last June when the ship left from Vancouver. We did whale watching and Liarsville. This year we are trying Palo for the first time. I booked the Yukon expedition, Mendenhall Glacier, bear country & wildlife expedition and the gardens in Victoria. We usually don't go to the last show because I am packing. This time I only need to clean up and pack for just me vs me and the two kids! Hopefully should have this done early Sunday.
I am definitely looking forward to wonderful week with my husband. My kids will be back in school on August 1 and Grandma is coming to watch them and the dog.
Jennifer:yay:

Welcome! Hopefully more people will start joining our group. The prices on the cruise are pretty reasonable still--I just was looking this weekend. How fun to do this for your anniversary!
