Wonder if DLR is gaining ground on WDW....

I agree with that totally. In fact, just a few days ago I was about in panic mode as by now I would have my spreadsheets completed for WDW as to what park to visit on what days, where to eat, parade and show times, etc. It will be so much easier having things in a more compact area, and the only sit down meal will be the Dinner Package for WOC. The rest of the time we are going to wing it and eat when we are ready, wherever we are, using counter service.

LOL! I thought I am the only one use a spreadsheet to keep trach of park hours, shows time and dinning reservation.

I think I read somewhere said that WDW is vacation while DLR is home. While I like my vacation but nothing is like home!

I love filling in my spreadsheets! It may be a little over the top but that's part of the fun of planning a trip to me. Getting those park hours, parade times, dinner reservations, making sure I'm gonna see what I wanna see!! Helps pass the time until the vacation starts.

I think I prefer DL because of the weather. I never get exhausted walking the parks in DL and DCA because the weather is always "fresh". I actually enjoy walking around and viewing all the plants and flowers so much at DL because almost everyday is beautiful. It's not a steamy, sticky mess. We went to WDW in Sept. last year and I'm pretty sure I got H1N1 which didn't surprise me for how hot and exhausted we were.

Also DL is sort of quaint in comparison, it has a sweeter feel and the cast members are always wonderful. I find that less at WDW. Also, DL is walkable from pretty much all the hotels on harbor which is so convenient.

I do love Expedition Everest and Mission to Mars at WDW and wish they had them at DL. Plus, Epcot is a dream. I looooovvve that park just like the other poster had said. Also, there are some pretty cool themed restaurants at WDW and you can tell from how busy the Blue Bayou is that DL is sorely lacking those.

So we go to WDW once every 2-3 years but we got to DL about 4 times a year. However, I think I love all things Disney haha.:rolleyes1

Now for the other part California has better:

3- Pacific Ocean. No denying its better then the gulf or the Atlantic.

Really? The Pacific in Hawaii or Tahiti but not California. The Pacific Coast water flows down from the Gulf of Alaska. COLD!!! The Atlantic Coast water flows up from the caribbean, i.e. the Gulf Stream. Warm.

I grew up in New Jersey and went to the shore there often. The first time I went to California I was looking forward to the Annette Funicello, Frankie Avalon beach experience. The water was colder than the Atlantic water in New Jersey several hundred miles more northern latitude than LA.

Sorry. Everything else I agree with.

Also, the water in Florida (southern anyway not sure about northern) is blue. The water in California is green like it is in the more northern areas of the Atlantic.

I always feel as though I've got to not do or say something that would embarass me or make others think "Boy that guy just did the dumbest thing."

Try being an Aussie with our ridiculous accents  Very hard not to sound stupid.

One minor concern, and this is just me, is that being from the South, I feel more at home in Orlando. I always feel as though I've got to not do or say something that would embarass me or make others think "Boy that guy just did the dumbest thing." Again, this is probably more something I feel as to any reaction I've ever gotten in California.

I have to laugh when I read this. Whenever I am in WDW and start a conversation with another guest from a Southern state, I am always asked,

"Where did you say you were from again?"
"California."
"Oh" with a head nod that suggests "that explains it."

I always smile when this happens to me, cuz I know that Southern accents sound strange to my ear, too. I remember reading somewhere that Californians have a unique dialect of our own. We just don't know about it until we travel.

Try being an Aussie with our ridiculous accents  Very hard not to sound stupid.

In my experience, Californians are fond of Aussie accents. Am I wrong? or was it just my generation that was.

I think I read somewhere said that WDW is vacation while DLR is home. While I like my vacation but nothing is like home!

When someone asks me to explain the difference between DL and WDW, this is how I answer:

When I go to WDW, I go on vacation. When I go to DL I am going home.

I hate to admit it and don't let my DH hear me say this, but I agree the Ca beaches are not as good as Floridas, mostly cause it's too cold here.

We love the Aussie accent!!!!!

FunatDisney- Yes, Californias are known for our accents, I have been pegged all over the country for it, since I was a kid.

I love that DL is so effortless to plan, WDW needs a general battle strategy just to get a dinner reservation. WDW is so different to DL it really is unfair to compare them.

When I saw KC's post I had the same thought as you. But he did not say "beaches" - he said "ocean" which encompasses the whole California coast and beyond. With that I have to say I do prefer the California coast/Pacific Ocean to the Florida coast/Atlantic. It is much more picturesque, especially when combined with mountains. Heck I am a UCSB grad and I have seen nothing in Florida that comes anywhere in the same universe as Santa Barbara. SB is is hands down better, as are a lot of SoCal and NoCal coastal areas (think Monterey).

Whether the beaches are better, I am not so sure. The cold water in Cal is certainly a drawback. But there ain't no stinkin' bugs in SoCal either. Personally I would take cold water over bugs...

This one is kind of a push in my mind... :cool2:

Unfortunately Walt didn't build WDW.

Now for the other part California has better:
1- rides (think POTC, INDY, SPACE, Fireworks, Fantasmic!, WOC, Stage Shows in Aladdin, Parades, IASM, Fantasyland!!!, etc.

2- Weather. Hands down. Would you rather be sweating in 100 degree temps and humidity or loving the CA weather? Oh yeah don't forget the downpour everyday in the summer.

3- Pacific Ocean. No denying its better then the gulf or the Atlantic.

4- Would I rather see Universal in Florida or see San Diego, Yosemite National Park, San Fran, Monterey, Santa Barbra, Redwoods, Catalina.......please don't go there about Florida. It sucks. Been there, seen everything and trust me it doesn't compare.

I was just going to drop it but the thread keeps popping up...lol.
As I make comments keep in mind I love ALL things Disney! We have had 4 WDW trips and I have been to DL a little more due to proximity.

1. With regards to rides and shows not only does WDW have most of the things you mention, IMO they are either better or at least easier at WDW. I agree regarding Space Mountain and POTC. They are both better at DL. Fireworks, parades, and shows are better at WDW. Fantasmic while the show is better at DL the seating is MUCH better at WDW. I do like the ROA setting at DL. Parades are better in WDW ( I especially like AK's parade). I have not seen WOC (going in March) but EPCOT's Illuminations is IMO the best show I have seen in any Disney park. In fact the World Showcase in general makes me prefer WDW.

I like the classics at Dl but WDW has some of their own. Carousel of Progress is one I love...(now I have the song caught in my head!)

2.Weather belongs to Cali!

3. Beaches- I am from Oregon where when we go to the beach and more than 5 people are there we drive down the road to another beach.
When I want beaches to play in I usually am not in Cali or Florida but in Maui.
How about a Maui vs. WDW thread....Maui might win that one. :rotfl2:
4.Comparing Universal Florida to Yosemite is exactly fair...lol
I would choose Yosemite or S.F. over it any time BUT....to us those are separate trips and not part of a Disney trip. Universal Hollywood is very sad in comparison to its Florida counterpart....especially if you include IOA.

How about this east west battle...
Cracker Barrel vs. In N Out Burger :rotfl:

Whichever park you love more you will find plenty of memories and fun at both.

I am curious about what your opinions about the Disney show after you see the WOC. I have always loved EPCOT's Illuminations and was the best Disney show on my list. And I am a true DL enthusiast. Top of my list... until last year.

I wasn't too impressed with the PR descriptions or the hype on the WOC before it started. How could it be better than Illuminations? I was simply wowed the first time I saw WOC, and shift in my list was immediate. Anyway, I am just curious.

In N Out Burger by far. :rotfl2: But I am going to Tenn next week and will make it a point to eat at a Cracker Barrel when I am there. I always make a point of going to CB whenever I travel out of California.

I used to work at UCSB and SBCC as a sign Language interpreter. My schedule was much like a student's schedule which means lots of breaks. I used to go the beach whenever I had an extra long break. Love SB beaches! I have my own Ventura beach to go now, and I am glad that I am raising my girls in a beach city.

Mister Skellington- Actually if you want to keep this on Disney topic, let's compare Kauai to anywhere else ;) I agree that is a BEACH!!!!

HydroGuy you are also so right, California does have some of the best coast line, Montery and Santa Barbara are two of my favorites!! I wanted to go to Cal Poly San Luis and UCSB just for the locations :)

Kauai is the best! And their beaches are incredible and 100 times better than California or Florida.

i think DLR is at a disadvantage since WDW is basically a DLR w/improvements learned from DLR.

though ive never been to WDW, as a cast member, im jealous of them...

While I know things are so different backstage, I am so very thankful for the DLR cast members! You guys on the whole are so much nicer then those at WDW. I have a handful of personal favorites that I am thrilled stay working at DLR. I wish you guys got the extra perks though.
