Wonder compared to Magic

I have only been on 1 cruise before (on the Magic for a 7-day Western) but we are looking at now doing a 5-Day Double Dip on the Wonder.

My questions are around how the 2 ships compare?

- are there many differences?
- is the Wonder better or worse in any ways?

Thanks

The only thing that was truely noticeable, and only to my 8 year old, was that the wonder did not have this certain gaming room where there was a full screen gaming program. Other than that, the nicer restaurant had a different name and theme but we really found no other differences

Best comparison is to a tract home. Identical floor plans, different decorations. Which is why there is only one floor plan for both ships on the Disney website and in the Disney Cruise Brochure.

You're probably thinking of Ocean Quest, where they can work with a virtual bridge and dock/operate the ship.

Where Lumiere's is on the Magic, is Triton's on the Wonder, and the Buffet on Deck 9, is Topsider's on the Magic, but Beach Blanket Buffet on the Wonder. Other than the name changes and the different decor, I agree with the PP's, no significant differences.

Oh, the club area on the Magic is Beat Street and on the Wonder it's Route 66.

We sailed on the Wonder for the first time in January, after sailing 3x on the Magic, most recently in December. We had to keep reminding ourselves that we were on the Wonder and not the Magic - that's how similiar the ships are from the inside.

We actually liked the decor of the Wonder better than the Magic, most notably in the Route 66 area and the decor and comfort of the chairs in Triton's versul Lumiere's. Oh and of course there's the difference of the Mickey theme in the atrium and midship elevator paintings, versus the Little Mermaid theme on the Wonder.

There is one slight physical difference between the ships. The Navigator Verandah openings on the Magic are round, while they are oval on the Wonder.

Aren't the stateroom tv's different?

Both ships now have flat screen TVs in the staterooms. The Magic got them in 2008 and the Wonder got them in 2009.

But the Wonder does now have an enclosed viewing area up on the top deck (The Overlook or something like that) which was added during the last drydock in preparation for Alaska.

We felt the Wonder was somewhat more creaky than the Magic and others have told us the same thing. Don't have any idea why that wouldbe.

One ship always has "improvements" that haven't been made on the other yet based on which was in dry dock the most recently. Currently the Wonder has the expanded Cove Cafe area. Also, as above, the WOnder doesn't have Ocean Quest, but now has the new "Out and About" program.....

Especially as many of the Magic crew have now moved to the Wonder (part of the training and getting ready for new ships/longer voyages for the Wonder)....there are very few differences. It was nice to see many of our old friends from the Magic when we did our B2B Wonder sailing in 2009.

The Wonder was built after the Magic, so it is a little "younger." Also, the Cadillac Lounge on the Wonder is called "Sessions" on the Magic. Another difference, the porthole openings for the Navigator's verandahs on the Wonder are oval shaped, while they are round on the Magic. OceanQuest on deck 2 of the Magic houses conference rooms on the Wonder.

Different entertainment.

Magic's exclusive shows are All Aboard, Twice Charmed, and Remember the Magic. With longer itineraries, the Magic obviously needs more shows, but the Wonder does have one show that the Magic doesn't have: Toy Story. They both have Disney Dreams and the Golden Mickeys. Although that will change when the Magic changes out Golden Mickeys for the new Villains show. I'm not sure if/when that will happen on the Wonder.

There would also be differences in the other "minor" entertainment options such as live performers in the louges or comedy acts in the Walt Disney theater.

The Golden Mickeys is not on the Magic anymore and has been gone for at least a month.

The temporary replacement until Villains begins is a show called "Once Upon A Song" which is basically 5 of the stage performers singing snippets of Classic Disney songs. The singing was very good, but it was pretty dull compared to most of the performances.

Well I certainly can't pick out those styles from looking at my photos. (Dammit, Jim, I'm a doctor, not an art historian!)

I guess this is Art Deco (Magic)...

But aside from these restaurants, when I compared some photos that I took on the two different ships, I was hard pressed to find anything on one ship that didn't look almost identical to the corresponding detail on the other ship.

I don't have any photos of Beat Street or Route 66. Those definitely are different, but I'm not sure either could be called Art Deco or Art Nouveau.
