O.K. here is a short report with more details to follow when we find out more info.

Myself, wife, son (12), daughter (9).

We got up at 3:45 am to fly out at 6:00 am from Grand Rapids Michigan. We used Delta both ways and had no problems.

Got on the Ship around 12:15. We had lunch at beach blanket. Went to the spa around 1:15 and made a ressie for wife on Castway cay cabana massage and a exotic Sural on for us on the sailing day. No lines at all.

We had TAPT for dinner and loved it all. Daughter did go the the kids club only two times and did not like it. Son did not like the club idea so he never went. He wanted to go to the Teens place but they would not let him.

Now for the problem. Day two was nassaw and it was fun. Dinner that night Son had stomach pains durning dinner so he went back to the cabin. Next morning we got up and went snorkling. We had some equipment problems but after 4 trips back we got some that worked correctly. That was the highlight of our trip. Son started feeling sick again and went back to the ship. We had made ressie's for parasailing and had to cancle his and mine. While waiting for my wife and daughter to go I went to check on him in the cabin. He got sick (thru-up) and was pale. Went to nurse to get some meds (rolaids is what they had).
Met my wife after the parasailing and took my daughter swimming on pool for an hour or so while she stayed with our son. Went back to the cabin and son could not standup. Nurse was called and wheelchail was on it's way so we could bring him to the med center. They checked him over (Doc was very nice) and said he had a Norfolk like virus not food poisoning. Game him a shot in the rear and some meds for the sick feeling. Thats the good news. Bad news is he has to stay in cabin for the next 48 hours (the rest of the cruise).

I understand the reasons for this so it's ok. So now we have room service for him the rest of the cruise no charge along with a few drinks for us and pop/power aid for him. They also sent us a few games for him too. Now my wife and I took turns staying with him the rest of the cruise. We cancled or spa ressie's and the unlimited internet that our son got the night before. No fees for that at all along with the cancled parasailing. Disney handled everything great. Our Servers all asked how he was doing (Chedder and Matt). We all loved them and they did see him on the last day for breakfast.

We have call about an insurance claim for my son and wife and i missing part of the cruise. I missed two shows and so did my wife. Dinner two for each of us and so on. I'll let everyone know what happens when I know something.

Any questions just pm me or email me.

Kurt

Sorry your son was taken ill, I'm glad you were able to enjoy half of your trip at least. I'm sure your positive attitude helped make your trip enjoyable as could be under the circumstances. Good luck with the trip insurance. Hope it all works out well for you.

I'm so sorry that your son got sick. But, as was said, you sure did have a great attitude about it.

Just wondering if the insurance only kicks in if you are quarantined or if will pay if you are just too sick to do anything (as in my husband's case-missed about 1/2 of a 7 day cruise). Anyone know? Thanks

Call your insurance company and get the paperwork to file a claim. It won't hurt to try.

First update

We have the claim paperwork and will be filling it out this weekend.

Wife talked to the CDC in Atlanta. On the 4-25-04 Wonder, 7 passengers and 5 Cruise employee's got the same thing my son got. It is the "NORO VIRUS". They require the Cruise lines to report all cases of "GI" to the CDC. My wife came down with it last weekend and daughter had it for two days this week.

Wow Typhoon - sorry to hear your family was sick on board and off! We boarded the Wonder on 4/29, probably right after you debarked. None of us were sick (other than hubby who had a head/check cold), and I didn't hear of anyone else on the ship who was sick with stomach ailments. They must have cleaned thoroughly, although they didn't have much time. We were onboard the ship by noon that day.

We also were on the Wonder April 25th. Both my husband and I came down with flu like symtoms last week. I still am not feeling the greatest. My sister spent 2 of the four days in her cabin. I hope your family feeling better now. Any information you can give me about this flu would be of great help.

We called the CDC in Atlanta. "Noro Virus" is what it's called. Mailed in claim forms today. Clamed 50% of sons cruise costs. 33% of wifes and 33% of mine. Not the airfare just the cruise costs. 7 days of infection spreading with out feeling anything. Wife came down with it the weekend we got back. Had to go to ER to get an IV. Daughter came down with it last week and missed two more days of school. I have not got it yet.......

Wow Typhoon! I was on that cruise with ya! Fortunately, my family escaped the virus . This is actually the first I hear about it1(my son did come down with a nasty ear infection though) and you are right, the drs were great.

Sorry to hear your story and hope your claim goes well..

We had the same thing on our Jan 2003 cruise. You could have claimed the 50% for the entire cruise since you were limited as to what you could do. That's what the insurance company told us to do. Our situation was very similar to yours, DD got sick while at CC on the 4 day trip.

So sorry to hear about it. You'll find Access America to be very prompt with the claim.

We heard from the insurance company....We are getting back around $700 dollars. Two days for my son and 1 day each for my wife and I. Insurance is not a waste of money.

Hi Typhoon, great that you're getting some money back, which insurance company did you use, i've never heard of being able to claim while ill on holiday except for medical expenses., only if you've had to cancel so i'd be interested in this. Cheers
