OK I have a friend who is turning 40... :earseek: ... Do I go with Over The Hill or just plain 40 ????

thanks !!!

Just plain 40. I don't think 40 is quite over the hill.

Coming from a 41 year old--stick with the plain old "40." I think "Over the Hill" should be reserved for at least the 50s. I don't feel over the hill yet, but I think I'm on the top of it! :)

Hey I'm 40! :cool1:

Just plain 40. It's really a VERY cool age to be. I love it and wouldn't go back to 39 for all the money in the world. :teeth:

the over the hill idea is her hubby's idea
she is older then him by several years

Oh. Another one of THOSE. ;)

My DH is exactly 7 months and 1 day younger than me, and that's all I ever hear... :rotfl:

An extra big no in this case. Dh is younger than me and it doesn't usually bother me. However, sometimes when I hit the milestones - like 40- it feels like I'm a lot older because we're in different decades. He'll finally hit 40 this year and we'll be in the same decade for 6 more years. Yeah!

Yikes! bad move on his part. I'm older that my DH by about 3 months, but he knew me well enough to NOT point out my age when i turned 40. (I was a little sensitive.) Unless you know this woman VERY well and KNOW she would laugh at the joke(being over the hill) do NOT go that route.

If he's smart, he'll do it in plain 40s - or she might be planning HIS funeral, next. ::yes::

This is weird, but when you turned 40, and people had to know your age for whatever reason, did you find they were NICER to you? I sure did. I'm not sure if it's because now I'm "in the club" or because they feel sorry for me. ;)

In any event, I'll take it.

For example....yesterday at the Vet office the tech says "you look too young for kids"...yea right, whatever....
So my new 40 self speaks up now and says, well how old are you, I am sure I am not far behind you. She was 44, btw.
Normally I would never be forward like that but now I don't care. If you are going to begin a comment prepare to TALK...hehehehe

I'm 39 & I vote for just "Happy Birthday" & no "over the hill" stuff. It's sad enough turning 40...nothing funny about it.

Just plain "40" No over the hill stuff......NOT YET!

"30" was bad....but "40" is O.K.!!!

Thanks All.... OK so we all agree we will stick with the 40 and NOT over the hill, not yet anyway... :rotfl:

I'm 32 so when I turn 40, I don't think I would appreciate an over the hill theme either.. although my DH NEVER gave me a 30th party so I doubt I will have a 40th either.. :guilty:

Thanks again...you are all great !!!! and soooo funny !!!

My ex did an over the hill party when I turned 30. I would have appreciated just a Happy birthday. :)

Stick with just happy birthday, unless you can do something like what DH did when I turned 40. He had a "pretty princess" theme for my birthday - lots of little girl, princessy things. Normally that wouldn't suit me at all, but coming from a DH who's a couple of years younger than me and our two preteen-at-the-time sons, it was perfect! It made me laugh, made me feel pampered, and took away any sadness I had about turning 40. :)
