Woman was fired because of her little kids

I once had a neurologist (for migraines) invite me to reschedule to another time when I had a sitter because my toddlers were, well, toddlers. Responded SHARPLY that it was easier to get a new neurologist, and I did. Not a fan of this sort of human.
I liked your response by the way, not that this mother was fired. I also get irritated with people who seem to forget what children are like. They make noise at inconvenient times, and regardless of whether someone currently has or wants kids, we should remember that we were all children who behaved like children at one point.

I can't count the number of times in the last few months DH and I have said "thank god this didn't happen five years ago" My kids are 8 and 11 now, and they are mostly capable of behaving when they need to.
I truly have no idea at all what we would have done that they been toddlers during all this.
It's an impossible situation on all sides.

This strikes me as her taking advantage of some free publicity for her blog, honestly.

I mean in the article I see family pictures with a partner there but nothing in the article mentions him. Does he not help with the kids? Does he work away from home? Why no mention of him at all? I'm just confused at this point.

California's Labor Code contains a presumption that employees are employed at will. This means that either the employer or the employee may terminate employment at any time, with or without cause or prior notice.

Unless there's something that makes her employment an exception, I don't think she has a leg to stand on.

ETA: What would she do if she had to go into the office? Presumably pay for daycare?

Are daycares closed where she lives? She may not have childcare.

Three tabloids - one American, two British - and known money, all running pretty much the same story. Interesting.

Never mind did her partner help. How did she manage in the few months between maternity leave and the lockdown.

Not to minimize the issue of trying to wrangle littles while working from home (BTDT, survived it with a lot of working late nights to cover what I didn't get done during the day), but I've got to say, if you are going to create an online side business that declares you a "mommy-_________", then be prepared to have your day job perceive that you really are not making your day job a priority.

I don't think the fact she is a blogger means she is immune to the horrible prejudice mom's deal with all the time. If she was unknown she'd just suffer quietly and then it's a non event, is that really preferred?

I like the troublemakers, they fix things for the next generation.... I need that in a t-shirt.

i don’t think it makes her immune either but I can’t take the mommy bloggers too serious. They post and link and write for clicks and likes because that’s how they make money. I wonder if her “office” job was her main job. Some of these mommy bloggers make big big bucks.

??? I'm so confused...what does her having or not having a partner have to do with it? I think it's pretty common for 1 parent, for a variety of reasons, to be home alone with their kids???

There are several things she could've done to lessen the impact her children had on her job. A 4 year old, if well behaved, should be able to understand the concept of "quiet time". The one year old is tricky, but a good parent should be able to find entertaining things for the young one. I"m hoping this wouldn't mean putting an I-pad in front of a child (don't get me started about the brain impact too much screen time has on young children).

It's relevant because she made it sound like she was the only parent attending to the kids, teaching them, feeding them, and working a full time job and I see no reason for that if he had the ability to help out at least part of the time. I am curious about it because if I were working at home with two kids and my husband was in the house also working we could at least trade tasks so that either job had 50% of the interruptions it would have normally. Marriage is teamwork. If he worked away from the home then what did she do with the kids normally while she went to work? There's just so much detail missing. In short, I feel she's giving a very one-sided story here and perhaps the lack of detail is intentional. Of course the business she works for not really releasing a statement isn't helping that either.
