WoC without FP - Best Viewing Area?

I know its not ideal and I understand the show needs to be seen from the viewing area to be fully appreciated...BUT let's say I'm not a planner and I happen to find myself at DCA at showtime and get a hankering to see the show at the last minute, and I don't want to stay up late to see the 11:15 show. Are there any areas that are better/worse than others (outside the official viewing area)? Thanks!

There truly are no good spots other than the viewing area. If you try to see the show from the back, you can see the fountains and stuff but the mist screens and effects are really really not good, which is a big part of the show. Is it really difficult to get a FP to see the show? Or the dining packages? :confused3

But in the spirit of the question what IS the best vantage if you have made a decision against seeing the show from the viewing area? There must be a "first" among the unequal ;)

Ummm... I've read a few people tried to see it from the back, and that was enough to convince them to go get the FPs for the next night... You can pick them up all morning long for the 1st show, and if you don't use them oh well then, you don't use them...

There are areas all around the bay to watch the show from, where you don't need FPs, pick one close to the viewing area, that is unobstructed, and give it a whirl... but since the whole idea was to design the show to be viewed from the viewing area, if you want to see it with all the effects, that's where you need to watch from.

May I recommend that if you are not going to use them, then give them to a family that was not able to get them? We do this quite frequently, for example we do the picnic lunches or we get one of the other package deals. Well, we will still get our FPs for the show, but since we do not need them, we give them away (sometimes they will be for the second or third show).

As for viewing areas, I have always gotten a FP. Please note that if you are willing to do the second show, you can get the picnic dinners as a walk-up, but the FPs will be for the second show and are subject to availability. Oh, and the picnic lunches are one of the best values around the park for food, $12.99 for a meal, drink and FP to World of Color.

thanks for the replies. I may just wait on this. The story is that I'm running the half this weekend and will be there Saturday afternoon for packet pick-up. I had hoped to do picnic for the first show, but those are already sold out (I'm a slacker and didn't look early enough).

Given that the race is at 6 the next AM, I doubt I will want to stay up for the later shows, so I was hoping to catch the early show. I may try the non-FP spot pointed out in the WoC superthread (thanks for the tip, HydroGuy!) Sunday, I won't be around late enough to see the shows, as I'll be heading home in the afternoon.

Looks like I'll probably wait until my next visit...which will probably be one of the two following weekends. it's nice to live so close :goodvibes

past few days, tickets dont run out till like 9pm.

So, does anyone know how early you have to get to the non-FP spot that is mentioned in order to get a decent view? Is that spot pretty crowded?

Thanks!

One night I went to Pacific Wharf to get a bread bowl and happened to sit down outside at the tables as the WOC show was starting. I could see the fountains from there but nothing else.

We saw this show last month. I waited and got fast passes for the first show.

We were there an hour early in the yellow section. I was so disappointed with this set up they have. For one you have to stand the whole show ( plus while your waiting. we would sit on the ground they would make us get up to fit more people in our section.), and a lot of people that were there what 2 hours before were taller then my 10 and 13 year old and they couldn't see anything. Then of course you have people that put the kids on there shoulders and I couldn't see. All I could see was the high fountians but not the Disney Scenes they projected on them. :sad2:

That being said I saw would I could but wouldn't do it again unless Disney but in bleachers or something.....for the fast pass people.
