WOC : Which is better - FP or dining package? How does having an ECV work here?

I have had good viewing areas for eating at Wine Country Trattoria (dinner) and Carthay Circle (lunch). For WCT, we did the second WOC show, so we actually saw part of the first one while dining. Then we arrived in the designated area about five or ten minutes before they told us to and were led straight through to our viewing area, which was reallyl good :)

If you have an ECV, no matter if its FP or dinning, if you get there about 5-10 minutes before the printed time (an hour before show) you get let in before everyone else. There is a designated HC section for all both in and out of the viewing area or you can pick a spot anywhere in the section and as long as you are on the fence you can stay in your ECV and watch from it. HC is first come, first serve and if it is filled before you get there you might be pushed to another sections HC. The blue HC on the top is one of my personal favorites because you are above everyone so its easy to see. Carthy Circles is really small and fills quickly. Ariel/WCT is the closest to the show and above the row before it but you have a chance of getting damp. Yellow top is one of the worst views. Yellow/Blue inside is just above the Ariel/WCT but is not much higher so the views can still be tough.

Someone mentioned that the FPs haven't been running out. All of the spring breaks it has been running out by 1pm. Before spring breaks they where not running out at all. If stop by after getting the couple must haves in the morning you should be in good shape.

Pixar Play should be back by the week you are there and it always is at 5:15pm. The view from WCT is pretty good if you get on the edge.

I'm going next week and have a dining package booked for Paint the Night at Aladdin's Oasis, and am considering doing the Wine Country Trattoria package for World of Color. It seems like a lot of people have been successful with just using Fastpass for WoC, but I think I'll splurge on the dining because I just don't want the added stress. It's worth it to me to have a plan already in place instead of fretting all day about how I'll get a good spot. It's just a big weight off your shoulders.
If you do lunch at WCT instead of dinner, it's significantly cheaper than any of the packages at all the restaurants ($34.56 per person for lunch at WTC vs $48.28 - $66.96 per person for every other package)...
If you want, I'd be happy to take photos of the reserved areas while I'm there and let you know what my experience was like.
Yeah, I like having a plan where I know we'll have a good spot, likely, at least know what to expect! Have a lunch ressie to save a few dollars but still have the benefit of the dining package, thanks for the figures on that! I've probably missed you but sure, pics would be awesome if you have time to take any, so kind of you to offer! But, I've likely missed you. Hope you are having an awesome time! It'd be great to hear how this goes for you! Thx, Nut_Meg!
Read the first post in this superthread: http://www.disboards.com/threads/world-of-color-superthread.2542717/. The map there shows the different sections and where the HC viewing areas are. There is good and bad viewing in both blue and yellow, so one isn't totally better than the other. Yellow is bigger, so it can be easier to get a good spot. Since it sounds like you'll be doing the dining package before trying to view with a free FP, use your first WOC night to scope out where you would like to be when you try to see WOC again.
Thanks, it's nice to see how the area is laid out, and good idea to scope out things for our second night there. Thanks, good info to have!

More good info to have, thank you very much! Yes they have the parade listed for our week, though not sure we can get lunch ressies to be able to wathc the parage. Even if we could get a ressie for say 3:45, the parade isn't until 5:15 and not sure they'll let us linger that long but maybe we'll check into seeing if we can get something later than we have for lunch, that'd be a good idead!

@Minniekins That spot is on the right side of the hub and Castle, just at the end of Main Street. You can scope it out earlier in the day to see how the sight lines will work for you. I don't know how far ahead you need to be there.
Maybe someone else can chime in and help with that?
Okay, that's great to know, thank you! Do you think it'd be a good spot to see the fireworks and parade from, would we be able to stay there for both? Am I right in thinking that we could see the castle and the Matterhorn from there?
Anyone else know how early we'd have to get to a spot on Main street to be able to stay there or only move maybe down a ramp and into the street?
We do have a ressie for Carnation Cafe for like 7:50 on our first Saturday night there. Thought maybe we could leave and go down a nearby ramp after the parade as it's ending to maybe get a spot following in the streets that first night, and then see the second parade after. Then thinking of getting there earlier maybe the next night to be able to wait for the parade and fireworks like I mentioned above on the right side of the street. I dont know, lol, this is getting a bit stressful trying to figure out a good spot without having been there yet and adding in the ecv, lol. Thanks to all for chiming in!

Eta: Also, wondering how long the parade is? If it's at 8:45, what time should it be done going by the Carnation Cafe area and need to be ready to head into the streets?

I'm thinking that should be a good spot, but you should swing by the area early in the day to verify that it will work for you.

Thanks, lorijohnhill, I will definitly check the areas out earlier in the day! I'm anxious to see how it all looks and how it might work out! Thank you again for your thoughts on this!

You're welcome! Just remember to try to relax and enjoy your trip. It can get stressful at times, but then I just sit back and look around and see where I am and it all just fades away.

I am counting down the minutes until I can be in my happy place again!
