NOTES
Viewing Areas
1) You can see the entire show from any spot.
2) To get the full 3D effect you need to be near the centerline.
3) The best spots are at the front of each section at the rail.
4) To get a spot at the rail in any lower section you need to line up 1/2 hour before the time on the Fastpass.
5) The boardwalk 1 WET Zones for Red & Yellow will give you an unobstructed view. However, the Front Screen is sharper looking further back.
6) I have marked the best spots for each section with 1. (MY opinion only)
7) I have marked good spots for each section with 2. (My opinion only)
8) You can get a spot on the top level in each section with a bench. However, If Handicapped is overflowed they will ask you to give up a bench seat.
9) The BEST location in my opinion, is in the Preferred Dining (PD) section on the next to top level about 10-20 feet from the walkway. SECRET: This area is ignored by the early crowd rushing to the front of the lower level, and you can get there 15 minutes after the early time listed on the Fastpass.
10) The Best Location for Blue is to enter and go halfway down then back up the next level. Stand next to the VIP Section and get a great overall view. This area also doesn't fill in early and you sholud not have to fight for this other SECRET spot.
11) The spots marked 2 gives you a good view.
12) The two spots marked "B" (Bad) have problems viewing over people or obstructions.
13) If you get a good spot at the rail, near the show time rude people appear and will try to push themselves or children in front of you. If you move 6" to one side this will give them an opening.
14) If there are nice people in your area with kids, and you are tall and at the rail, ask them to stand in front of you because it is difficult to see for Kids or short people behind others. You both will feel good.
15) For kids and those that like corny fun singalongs and large puppets the 1st show has a cute 15 minute preshow.
16) To get into the VIP section you need to have a Sr. DLR Manager add your name to the list. There are no Fastpasses.
17) Have fun and enjoy the show...

Rough Fastpass distribution times at GRR:
Update: 08/08/10

1st show (9:00pm)
9:00 - 9:45am = Blue
9:45 - 10:05am = Yellow
10:05 - 10:30am = Red

2nd Show (10:15pm)
10:30am in the same order:

3rd Show (11:15pm)
12:15pm -
Blue (Now includes Preferred), Yellow, Red

Picnic Box:
1st Show Purchased before that day: Blue followed by Yellow
2nd Show Purchased the same day : Blue followed by Yellow

TIME to Line up:

If you are a hotel guest and get into DCA between 9:00 and 9:30am you will get 1st show Blue.

If you line up at 9:00-9:10 for the 9:30am rope drop and run or walk quickly to the GRR WOC Fastpass you will be in line 10-20 minutes and get 1st show Blue.

If you line up at 9:10 to 9:20am and run or walk quickly to the GRR WOC Fastpass you will be in line 20-25 minutes and will probably get 1st Show Yellow. If you wait until 9:30 to 9:45am to enter the Fastpass line will be up to 40 minutes and you should still get 1st show Red at about 10:30am.

After 10:00 to about 10:30am the lines are 35-40 minutes long and you most likely get 2nd show Fastpass.

After about 12:30pm the lines get shorter down to about less than 5 minutes by 1:30pm. The 3rd Show Fastpasses have been "sold out" at 3:30 to 4:00pm or later.

Early Reservations = 1st Show that day
Later Reservations = 2nd Show that day...


This WOC Viewing Chart is generally correct (based on reports from July 4 to July 11), with the exception of this post by tholczer.

Here are Disneyland_1951's comments for the above viewing chart:

The black line is the exact centerline for the show.

To get a good view at the rail, you need to arrive at the entrance queue before 7:00 for the 9:00pm show, and fight the crowd for the good spots.

Yellow Section: The yellow wet zone is in the center. The sides towards the center are very good, however the first and third tiers towards the center are reserved for Handicapped only. All yellow is good, the further back and towards the center the better.

Red Section: The only good view is the lower tier near the center in the red Wet Zone. The edge towards the center fills up very early and gives you an OK view.

Blue Section: Fills up very quickly and the best view is the top tier next to the VIP section. Or fight the early crowd and get the lower front row rail in the blue Wet Zone.

Preferred Dining Section (9:00 and 10:15pm shows only): (Buy a $40 dinner) fills out a little slower, but the front center is small and fills up early. The third tier below VIP is a great view (just below the VIP section). The stairs are OK, but many late-arriving Yellow section "Guests" after arguing with the cast members overrun the cast and invade the "Reserved" section.

The later shows are a little less problem, but for the 10:15 show you need to line up an hour or more early. They have separate areas for each color to line up in, rather than a mass mob for the 9:00. The 11:15 is much less crowded but the earlier the better, and there is no Preferred Dining Section (it becomes Blue).

The wet zone is a heavy drizzle to a soaking depending on the wind.

The closer to the black line the better.

Please note:

The "Blue Bridge" Section is accessed using the Blue FPs; there are no "Blue Bridge" FPs. (Some people with Blue FPs prefer to watch the show from the bridge instead of watching the show from inside Paradise Park in the Blue section.)

VIP Section: To stand at the back of the VIP section on the top tier you need to know a bigwig at DLR and have your name added to the "list." They are not sold. To sit on a bench you need to be a big enough Celebrity to have your own personal "Plaid" escort. It is well monitored by several Sr. Staff and is completely separate from the other sections.

The WOC FP machines give out yellow, blue, and red FPs.

From what I've heard, the color of the FPs (from the WOC FP machines) is random.

The picnic box option gives you yellow or blue.

I read on another board about the orange FP being for the bridge. I'm not sure the above map is correct. But I think they may be changing things around since some of those initial reports. The map is probably more correct than incorrect, but the assessment that red is good -- I don't think that's been the consensus. I think red is supposed to be not that great, but I haven't read enough reports from red FP holders to know yet.

DCA is supposedly changing the colors around so that people don't think one color is better than others and try to buy/sell them. So far, there are carved out areas that have stayed pretty much the same, but it sounds like they may change the color of a given section. I think that the "better" (read: closer) sections are the first to come out of the FP machines (thus enabling DLR resort guests to get better choices first) and then the least desirable go last (the bridge section). Then it starts all over for the next show.

This map doesn't match the other map that's been floating around the DISboards. Colors may change as others have noted, but even the section layouts don't match the other map.

It also does not match what we seemed to see in our visit, but that was opening night.

Doesn't mean it's right or wrong, but it doesn't match what has been going around. Since orange has last been reported as the bridge, the blue section would be minuscule compared to the other sections.

I know there's a more updated map, but http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2495778 is one of the ones I've seen (scroll down a ways).

From what I've heard:

The red area isn't that great because it's too far to the side.

The red Wet Zone area (in front of the yellow section) looks like it might be pretty good (if you don't mind getting wet -- they sell ponchos, or you could bring your own).

This color chart was accurate for us last week. We were in the blue picnic section. Views were so-so...but we also heard reports of so-so views in the preferred dining (dark blue) section.

the most frustrating thing is that people are allowed to put children on their shoulders, and that they can bring their strollers into the sections and take up valuable space with the strollers.

They may have changed it in the last two weeks, but when I was there, the front wet section in front of the yellow was also yellow. We had a spot by the rail just above that, and it was a perfect view. We were in front of the wooden mini-stage that the pre-show is on. We got a little misted, but not enough to consider it wet. If you have a yellow fastpass, I recommend that spot.

We were standing on the top step of the center front blue preferred area (at an 11:15 show - we didn't pay for a meal) and we had a pretty good view... until someone in front of us decided to try the kid on the shoulders thing. The worst part was; the kid was whining to go home the whole time she was blocking our view, she wasn't even paying any attention to the show. Grrr!

The chart is correct with what is current.

The Black Line I added is the centerline of the show. The WOC Show is not centered with the viewing area, but with the Perferred and VIP zones.

The Red section is the furthest off center except for the Wet Zone below the Perferred section.

If you have a blue FP and you are standing in the blue Wet Zone (front boardwalk), would you be allowed to walk to the yellow or red Wet Zones?

Or do you have to stay in the Wet Zone that matches the color of your FP?

Officialy: You have to stay in your zone. However they have taken your Fastpass, and now have no way to verify what color you had other than your word.

The Blue/Yellow Wet Zone is difficult to cross as a CM is stationed there at all times and the stairs are narrow between them.

Red to Yellow is kinda monitored as Yellow Wet Zone is crowded.

Yellow to Red Wet happens at the last minute because there are not that many in the Red and Yellow is overfilled.

I was in the Yellow section in the front rail and was great. I did notice the view is slightly angled towards the blue section but was still a great view.
