WOC effect on DCA attractions?

Headed to DLR in a couple of weeks with myself, my wife and our son. We really want to ride RSR both during the day and at night, so I was thinking that at/near the start of WoC would be a good time to ride standby in the evening. Does WoC pull enough people away that this will work okay? Caveat: this will probably be on a Saturday night.

No. You're never not going to wait at least 30 minutes in standby for RSR. You could either do single rider if your son is over 7, or try either rope drop and a later FP or get an FP right at rope drop and then hope a second FP is available when your FP window opens. Sometimes you just have to wait in standby if you want to ride something, but RSR can be a long wait and the ride might break down, so I don't feel it's worth it yet.

I agree with SMD that WoC isn't going to really impact the wait times for RSR. That attraction is very popular and the standby line is always one of the longest. I would either try to get a FP for it or wait and ride it at the end of the night just before closing (the line will still be long(ish), but it won't take away time from doing other things).

I think one reason it doesn't help too much is because they shut down Screamin' during WOC (and a lot of guests probably assume the whole pier is shut down), and DCA only has a handful of really popular rides. So while some of the crowds are occupied with WOC, there are also fewer big rides available to absorb the rest of the people. Plus a lot of people want to ride RSR at night.

You can definitely do it. We rode RSR three times in one day, and that was the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so it was a busy weekend. Here's what we did: DCA is very quiet at rope drop on Saturdays, I think because it's normally EMH/MM at Disneyland. We got there right at rope drop, pulled a FP for RSR with a 9:45am return time, then went and rode it stand-by with a 40min wait. We then rode a few rides in Bugs Land. At 9:45am we pulled our 2nd FP which had a return time window of 5:30-6:30pm. This was perfect because it was getting dark around 5pm anyway! Before pulling your 2nd FP, you can watch the return times either on the Disneyland app or by calling Ask Otto, so you know when to go pull another FP for your evening ride.

WOC doesn't impede people from getting to RSR, so no one is expect for the relatively few people on the park watching it are going to avoid Cars Land because there's a show. It's the same thing at DL. The only headliner affected by F! was Splash, and even then, people eventually figured out it was worth pushing through the crowd to ride it. The Space line doesn't go down during PTN or fireworks. Neither does Star Tours and that's even closer to the route.
