Just got a call from a friend of mine in Kansas she got in line at walmart at 4 for the laptop, and got 2 of them. The line, when she got to the electronics department was to the end of the store. They had 15 laptops.

My aunt, just came back from the walmart here in southern NH, and they had 25 laptops.

The laptops in Kansas were 388 and the ones here were 488...same computer...

Thankfully 1 of the ones purchased in Kansas, is for my DD's so I didnt have to go out :)

Sitting here in my Jammies, drinking my coffee, reading all your posts about the crazy shoppers.

She did say walmart was super easy, everyone was in a good mood, and seemed to be chipper, joking with others etc.. Of course, she was 4th in line, so that might have been why.

She called from Kmart, where the biggest rush was already over, and she said it reminded her of a normal Sunday at a store..nothing crazy.

They were showing live shots of a Walmart here in Orlando this morning. At that one someone punched out another person while trying to get in. There was someone else charged with trespassing when trying to reach over the counter to get a computer. Sheriffs dept. was called for that one.

Sounds like there were more in Kansas than Kentucky. I just called my dad. He got there at 4:30 and he said they were lined up around the building. He did not get one. A WM clerk told him people had been in line since 9pm last night and that they only had 30 laptops. I think that is horrible and another reason I try my best to stay out of wm. At least Best Buy had the courtesy to put that there were a minimum of 10 per strore to at least warn people there might not be many there. JMHO.

They had 2 people taken to the hospital here in GR, silly. Over 10 laptops that arent that great when you realized DEll has a much better laptop for $399 and you are only saving $20 to most likely not get one. I am done with BF, I am getting good deals on line thanks to DIs Budget board.

They only had 9 at the Wal-Mart I went to. Yes, it would have been nice had they had the courtsey to say that they had a VERY limited quantity.

I heard about this on the radio...the WM employees were throwing the computers in the air. People were getting knocked down trying to catch them. They also said that people had been in line since 4pm yesterday.

I wouldn't go into the walmarts around here on a regular day...Black Friday...no way. It won't be too long until we have a shooting or stabbing at one of our local WMs. I think it's a terrible practice, this whole Black Friday nightmare. More people seem to come away disappointed than happy. And in some places, like here in Orlando, it's downright dangerous.

Apparently, there were alot of arrests at the Wal-Mart in Hudson, NH.

My sister just went there around 9:30-10am and lucked out. She got the HP Digital camera since someone just returned it and she heard a clerk yelling "who wants the HP camera?!"

My Mom mentioned in passing the other day that she'd like a digital camera, but that was too expensive to put on her Christmas list - now she'll be getting one!

Was told that the Walmarts in Kansas City only got 14 laptops apiece. The clerks were upset that corporate doesn't make it clear in the ads that they're so limited.

The WM i went to this am only had 8 available.I did not get the laptop was able to get the desktop for my inlaws.Plus we printed an ad we found online from a walmart here in OK who had the laptop for 398 so we saved 100 from the advertised price at the WM we were at!!!

The Wal-Mart closest to us had only 10 of the laptops and they were $378.00. My DD got laptop #9.

I didn't see any violence or anything--sure some people were upset that they didn't get one, but they didn't do anything other than gripe as they walked away.

I don't understand why people have to take their anger out on the salesclerks. :confused3 They don't do the ordering and are not responsible for the ads. They're just trying to make a living.

why didn't all of you save yourselves a lot of time and energy and order the $399 laptop from Dell. Not to mention it's also a better laptop.

Well, let's see--my DD didn't have $400 in cash and could put it in lay-away @ Wal-Mart until payday . Plus, she had a 20% discount cert that she was allowed to use on it, lowering the price even more.

And, I didn't waste any time or energy, seeing that there were several other things we wanted from Wal-Mart.

Good enough reasons??

wake up on the wrong side of the bed did we? If I'm not mistaking this thread is about
a. not being able to get one due to limited availability
b. fights breaking out and people going to the hospital trying to get them
c. getting to the store at 4:30AM to try and get one.

didn't say someone might not have had a valid reason, just pointing out a similar/better deal on a BUDGET board (isn't that what this board is for?). Lighten up next time.

Actually since Im the OP, I can tell you that I started this thread based on the differing amounts of laptops at each walmart. I just added the parts about the behavior because I wanted too.......

No, I didn't. I'm in a perfectly fine mood. You are the one who said that I (We) wasted time and energy in getting this laptop and why would we do that?

Maybe you should have used better wording for your suggestion, rather than make erroneous generalizations.

Ya Ok So anyways...
I was not there for the laptop so I didn;t get their til 4:45 and I was half way back through the lot -
but people were leaving the line left and right when they found out that there were only 15 of them and that the tix for them were handed out.

We arrived at Walmart at about 3:40 AM and there were about 10 people already in line. I had read that each store would only be getting about 15 laptops so I didn't bother. We had got all of our stuff that we wanted by about 4:15 AM, so we just stood in the self checkout lane until 5:00 AM. We were in the car by 5:05 AM and eating breakfast shortly thereafter.

I feel that we had a pretty successful morning. I don't believe I have ever spent $400 so quickly before though.

If I were in line and heard about numbers given out day before for laptops, etc or the stores only having 5. I would remember that next BF 2006 and completly by-pass them. Why bother, someone else has a number entitling them to one, or the first 5 people will get one, I am glad I slept in and didnt waste my time. Would you go next year?
