We have a studio booked for a couple nights in June. I noticed that a lot of the studios are located on the 1st floor. Being female, I'm always concerned about being on the first floor due to safety concerns. Anyone who has had a villa on the first floor care to comment regarding safety at WLV?

Anything else you can tell me about the resort would also be welcome. I've heard nothing but positive things about it, which is always wonderful. :)

Thanks!

I travel a great deal for my job and do ask for upper floors at hotels, but have never given first floor a thought when staying at VWL (which is our "home"). Have never had a problem, but there are plenty of studios on the upper floors, too. If you don't mind the walk, there are some dedicated studios at the end of the hall that are nice and quiet. Just stayed there during our Christmas visit.

I hope you love VWL as much as we do. The Lodge lobby never gets old for us. We love to sit and watch people's jaws drop when they walk in for the first time. Artist Point restaurant is one of our favs. Make sure to take the boat to MK. And if you have time, rent surrey bikes and hop over to Fort Wilderness for breakfast or lunch. There are tours of the lodge and if you do one and have Ranger Stan as your guide, tell him the "pen" ladies from Wisconsin say "howdy" (he's the best ambassador Disney has...what a sweetheart). And you can always request a chance to be the "flag family of the day" and you'll be taken to the roof of the Lodge to help raise the flags and enjoy the spectacular view. And to end the day it's always nice to sit on the beach about 9:35 and watch the Electrical Light Pageant pass by.

Hope you enjoy your stay.

Thanks so much for the reassurance and the great information. :)

Hey Iggie,
My dh & I had a first floor studio last march. Even though I did go with my Dh, we're native ny'ers so we feel sort of naked if there aren't 12 locks on the front door. :rotfl2: We did go outside on the balcony/patio to look to see what was around us. We felt the lock on the door was good and we always through the deadbolt whenever we we're in the room. We also checked the lock for the sliding glass doors. We're not paranoid, I think its just the normal stuff we do at any hotel.
Enjoy your stay, it's one of the prettiest hotels we ever stayed at.

Make sure to call MS and put in the request if you would like and upper floor.

I traveled alone in Dec. and didn't really think about requests. When checking in I thought of the first floor issue. I usually not worried about such things, but thought it might be good to avoid any thoughts in the middle of the night. And what do you know, I was assigned a first floor room. The CM was very nice and tried to get it changed but couldn't. It really wasn't a big issue to me and I felt secure in the room. It also wouldn't have been a big issue to have call MS a week before - if I had thought of it.

The following link shows a layout of VWL.

I believe that room 3512 is part of a 2-bedroom lock-off and not a dedicated 2-bedroom. But the picture shows plenty of studios on the upper floors.

Thanks for the link. That was the map I looked at a couple days ago and realized that there are a lot more studios on the 1st floor than on other floors. There are 21 studios on the 1st floor (some are part of lock-offs), 14 on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor and only 2 on the 5th floor.

So..because I'm a cautious type of person, I'm going to take the advice given and call MS to put in a request for a higher level floor. I always forget that I can do that.

btw: check out 2528 and 2519! Those look like great 1 bedrooms!
