Right now we're booked in a courtyard view room at WL. I am thinking of switching to a woods view room to save some money. Are woods view rooms darker? I know that some people have mentioned having dark rooms and that would concern me as my DH doesn't like rooms that are too dark. Also, would woods view be any quieter than courtyard view? I am currently concerned that courtyard view might be too noisy for my DD who is noise sensitive.

I'll be happy wherever I am, as long as I'm at WDW.

All of the rooms at WL are decorated basically the same way.

Sure, the theming of the resort may be darker in general but we did not find our room to be unusually dark.

I would go with a woods view, high floor.

We also didn't find the courtyard to be real noisy. We could not hear the geyser erupt or people playing by the pool unless we opened our balcony door. It was the noise coming from the other rooms that bothered us.

I read recently that the 6th floor, north wing is smoking. Just an FYI in case you check in and find out you are on the 6th floor.

I think a 6th floor room in the south wing with any view would be your best bet (or concierge if you can get the upgrade at check in).

Good luck and have a great trip.:D

I stayed at Wl last Sept and would never waist the time on a room with a view again (unless at AKL of course). All I basically saw was the roof of the hotel and a few trees, lol . From what I know the rooms are pretty much the same in size and decoration and you could save even more money if you stayed with a standard view. It's just an opinion but last time I was there I was disapointed on how much I paid for a view of the roof :( Also there was not too much noise at all , I was concerned that it would bother me especially being off the lobby. The only time I even heard anything was in the morning around 8 or 9 am 'cause the Whispering Canyon Cafe has some crazy activities going with the children eating there. I hope this helps.;) Have fun whatever you do deciede.

I had a 'Woods View' back in October and like Skylarr 29 it was mostly a 'roof view with trees'. This it was quiet but not exactly scenic.

I have heard that 'Standard Rooms' often look over service areas so might be noisy in the AM with truck deliveries and back-up beeping noises.

Based on that, I would certainly choose a 'Woods View' over a 'Standard Room'.

Our 'Woods View' was right over the check in desk on the fifth floor. Once I got over being bummed about not having a good view (which even if I did, I wasn't at the Lodge much during the day to enjoy it) I really ended up loving being on the Lobby. I could open my door each morning and be met with the grandeur of the WL Lobby. Plus, it also allowed me to roam the floor and take pix of the Lobby in the early hours and not worry about DD still snoozing in the room.

I thought it was quiet when it needed to be- early morning and bedtime. Around 8 AM you could hear the triangle ringing from Whispering Canyon but it wasn't really loud. Didn't wake DD (who is 6) up who slept until 10 one morning! LOL!!

Oh- I didn't think ours was dark at all.

Hope you have a great time!! I can't wait to go back to the Lodge!

Did you book your room with a code?
Sometimes you can get a concierge room-the quietest IMO-with a code for the same price as rack rate for a courtyard room.

We love WL very, very much. But, I, personally, don't care for the top floor rooms that have the very small, closed in balcony. To me, this makes the rooms a little darker. Doesn't bother my husband at all, however. He likes the privacy of the closed in balcony, but agrees that he might not be able to 'get sun' when he's reading outside.

Some people feel the overall room decor of WL is dark because furniture is dark wood and colors are dark green/red/brown. As I said, we love it! I don't think a particular view will give you a darker room. It could depend on how the sun hits the room, however.

Hope you enjoy your stay.

We were upgraded to a "Woods View" room, #6085. We looked over a roof and heard the delivery trucks in the morning. Not what we expected. But we found many cozy little "nooks" here and there if you want to sit, relax and even catch some distant fireworks. There are rocking chairs, tables and chairs, benches all over. We were amazed with the resort, inside and out. So enjoy!

We also booked a Woods view room, because of DDs with low noise tolerance. We were really pleased with our quiet room (room 2002). We had it noted on our reservation that we wanted a quiet room - and we had one right at the end of a corridor - so no one even walked past the room! And it overlooked the trees and lake!

Thank you for your comments. I have changed from courtyard view to woods view to save money. I have noted that we would like a non-smoking bunk beds room in a quiet location. I have also informed CRO to put a note about my daughter's attention deficit disorder accompanied by noise sensitivity. Hopefully, that will get the hotel to take the request seriously. As we see DD's doctor for an annual physical right before the trip, I will ask her to provide a note attesting to her condition.

I was afraid to do a standard view room because too many people have gotten put by service areas which tend to be noisy.
