We will be flying to Orlando and using ME to WL mid-July. DH wants to go to Margaritaville. I still obviously need to do some more research, but I know it's near the Universal Studios area (Please correct me if I'm wrong).

My parents are going with us to WDW, so the boys can spend the day with them, so that DH and I can have an afternoon or evening together.

So, what are our budget minded options? (We would even consider public transportation if available.) Where to start?

First we LOVE Margaritiville! :lovestruc We were just there a few weeks ago. We are also DVC members who love WDW. :thumbsup2 There are a couple options for you and unfortunately no public transportation. You are about 10-15 miles away. :headache:
You coould do one of three things:
1) Splurge. Towncar Service. Round Trip about $150-$200.
2) Taxi. About $120-$150 round trip.
3) Rent a Car. Alamo at WDW will pick you up and take you the Car center and back after you return for free. The rental will be $50-$100.

Last year we stayed at OKW and spent a day at Bush Gardens. We did the rental option and it worked out great!!::cool1:

Margaritaville is at Universal Orlando Resort in CityWalk. We have been several times. It is a good place to eat and hang out for some drinks. There is also a lot of other things to see and do just at CityWalk. You can make a day of it. I would suggest renting a car if possible.

Respectfully, I think imyus's estimates are high.

A taxi would likely cost more in the range of about $40 each way, plus tip.

I just checked one popular town car's site - it, too, is $80 round trip, plus tip. (Oh, Esteemed Moderator - am I permitted to recommend a particular service - not the one I checked for rates, but one my brother recently used and with which he was pleased?).

Less expensive - but less personalized is the Mears Shuttle. About $18 round trip per person; dial the resort operator at least a day before you want to go, and ask to be connected to Mears, to schedule.

Least expensive is, yes, public transportation - Lynx Bus www.golynx.com
The site has an interactive trip planner, and it's only $2 per person per 'leg', but you would need to get to the TTC, then get the Route 50 bus, then transfer someplace to a bus that goes close to Universal, then still walk about fifteen minutes.

We visit Margaritaville most trips too. We are a rental car family, so transportation is not a problem. Also we are Universal AP holders (and Disney AP holders), so parking is free. If you rent a car you do have to pay to park. It may be cheaper in the evenings, I'm not sure. I would suggest a cab over and back. Here's a tip, plan you visit on the weekdays. Happy hour is Monday to Friday from 3:00-5:00 and house margaritas are 1/2 price if you buy them on the porch of indecision or the outside shack. We usually do a late lunch here around 1:30-2:00, so when we are done with lunch we are ready for happy hour.

Thank you for all the information! I am now much better prepared to start planning this.

I think car rental may be cheaper, but then only DH would get to enjoy the margaritas!:rolleyes1
