We just got back from the WL. I must admit I was a little disappointed in the room but Disney did make it right and I only slept there. The problem was the we were asssigned to a first floor handicapped room. This room overlooks the pool and I had my heart set on a room with a balcony overlooking Bay Lake which I had high hopes for since I had booked a courtyard view. That wasn't the only problem, however, as we only had a shower in our room. While this wouldn't bother some people it bothered us as I have a DD who is 2 that is very afraid of showers. At WL they said she wasn't in our reservation but I had run into a lot of problems prior to our stay from having her in our reservation and over 5 CM's had told me it was because she was in it. I told this to Disney Management and they refunded me 1/2 of a 1 night stay. They wanted me to move after the first day and refused to compensate for it after that but I didn't move as we didn't want to spend our vacation which was quick (3 days in the park) taking care of moving from room to room. On a positive we did have a king size bed which was wonderful. Would I recommend this resort - yes I would but insist on getting what you paid for and ask Disney Management if they can make it up to you if your needs are not met. Transportation was a short wait and no problem ar all. One tip would be if you are closing down the MK take the bus not the boat as there is usually not a line at the buses and you will get there sooner.

Sorry to hear about the room you were given.
On our reservations it list our kids (sort of)
2 Adults and 2 Juniors.
Maybe because your child is 2 (free in the Parks) - the CM reservationist did the oversight.
I hope you had a great vacation anyway.
PS - my DD only did baths until she was 7 - even now as a tween, she still like baths - but with bubbles and her CD player on the counter, it must be a girl thing :rotfl:

My child was listed in the reservation so it really upset me. Still like I said Disney made it right and gave us a refund on part of the trip. We had a blast.

Sounds like Disney was very generous, comping a half-night's rate. The OP's experience is worth folks remembering: If 15% of the rooms are on the first floor, then you have a 15% chance of getting a first floor room. :)

I think most, if not all, of the King rooms are wheelchair accessible. Of course, if you didn't request a king room, then I can understand you being upset. We're going in a few weeks. My DS is 2 and is not listed on our reservation. My mom is also coming with us, so I don't think I have to worry about getting a King room since we are three adults.

Keep in mind that they need to have a certain number of rooms available for handicapped guests, and surely their preference is to fill those rooms with folks who need that assistance. However, it seems like there was a scheduling issue, and there were more non-handicapped guests than there were non-handicapped rooms. Since a handicapped room is perfectly workable for most non-handicapped guests, they'll always take reservations until they've filled the entire resort -- they won't deliberately leave handicapped rooms empty because they couldn't locate handicapped guests to fill them. So it is inevitable that folks will get handicapped rooms every so often.

This does raise the issue of the need for a bath tub -- that should be noted on the reservation as a request, if it is something important to you.

I was given a handicapped room at the Allstar Music this summer, at first it was one with just the shower and I called the front desk and was moved to one with the tub and shower, but still had the king size bed. I asked to be moved to a room with 2 doubles but they told me that all the rooms with 2 double beds were reserved for families with more than 2 people on the reservation, and because I was a single all they could give me was the room with the King bed...now the resort was packed so I took the room with the King.
It did turn out to be pretty nice because there was a refrigerator in the room and that came in handy.
But I guess they figure that there is no way a family of 3 or 4 can use the king bed so if there is nothing else available then the handicapped rooms are given to the smaller parties.

We requested a King room for my mother and her boyfriend at the WL for our trip next year. Will this make it certain that we will be on the first floor? If so, I'll change the ressie, as we really want balconies in our two rooms.

We hadn't requested a king but I really enjoyed that feature of the room. I had never thought of requesting a bath tub on a ressie as it is normally a given but plan to request it in the future.

Since alot of the King rooms are handicapped accessible, some of them have the roll in shower, and this has no tub, while others have a tub and a shower (with the hand held shower head)

There are king rooms that are NOT on the first floor. We have stayed in one on the 4th floor (courtyard) and on the 6th floor (woods).

We leave for Disney World in less than two weeks, and throughout our trip planning (from reservation to final payment to confirmation), our DS (who will turn 2 on the trip) has not appeared consistently in the reservation.

We've had to correct this oversight with the WL reservation, dining reservations, and with DME. DME is the critical point because they like to have a head count of the number of people using their service.

Anyway, it's silly that the little kids aren't tracked properly, but it's something for everyone to watch for when planning their trip.
