I was very fortunate last week to get upgraded at the WL to concierge. Upon arriving on the 7th floor I quickly figured out why I had been given such a nice surprize, it was being rehabbed! Carpet was just replaced to a more modern light green with tree design. The lounge was in the process of being created. A large large kitchen type room, perfectly themed with granite counters, crushed granite floors, log cabin walls, mahogany cabinets, etc. Also large cast iron doors with amazing detailed work of a deer scene on it. They seemed to spare no expense on the lounge. Also being replaced was the lighting fixtures in all hallways and some furniture. At the one corner of the 7th floor they installed a dark wood mantle that houses a 50 in plasma. Talking to the concierge CM hes said that by end of 2006 all rooms (furniture and all), carpets, hallways, will be rehabbed. Top end custom furniture with flatscreen tvs will be installed in all rooms in the resort. Looks like WL is getting the contemporary/poly treatment. Nice to see Disney investing in their resorts again, they really are key to keeping people in their parks.

FYI taking the boat from WL to MK I could see the south wing rehab at the CR and I have to say it was some of the worst show Ive ever seen. Sheets over the open patio doors or old mattresses. The rooms looked like they were really ransacked for some reason. The wall they had up was too short and transparent.

The new look sounds nice. I will be staying at WL concierge in October and it will be our first stay for WL and concierge, I can't wait. Do you have any advice for a first timer?

Will any of these rooms be ready by August? i wonder if i asked for a newly renovated room if they would give it to me? are all the rooms in the resort being redone or just the conceirge level.

the concierge seemed to think the renovations would be beginning anytime. In the 5 days I was there they got ALOT done. Its going to be done on all room and I think they were putting together a demo room in the 2 rooms that are off the hallways on the 7th floor. As for advice, just staying there is the best thing you can do for yourself. It is a very special place. However if you ask for a room on the MK side on floor 5 or above you will have an awesome seat for wishes. Room 7062 bought us the best seat weve ever had for the fireworks on a nightly basis. even better than the CR tower. The plasma mantle was like something ive never seen before.

If they are starting to rehab, is there a chance we could be bumped from there to another resort? We are going in early September, and have 2 rooms booked...

That is sooooooo cool that you got upgraded to concierge. :cool1:

I would LOVE  to have that happen for my birthday trip in late Aug. Did you book a regular room and they just said "we've upgraded you?" I'm just curious how something like that happens.

This renovation is long overdue.

We booked 2 rooms on the concierge floor in December and were very disappointed. Service, food, atmosphere was just not up to concierge standards.

We had stayed at AKL concierge the year before and I was so pleased. Unfortunately, it seems that the concierge services cannot be compared "apples to apples".

This was the first time we didn't do a request ahead of time and the first time we booked a standard view ironically. I would think the concierge lounge rehab will be done by next week so I wouldnt hold out hope for an upgrade and Id be surprized if by August they were to the point of moving people to a new resort. The CM said the plan was to renovate hall by hall like the YC/BC renovation from a few years back. The first rooms to be renovated was supposed to be the concierge rooms so if you booked a regular room you should be fine for the time being. Wish I knew more but Im just so happy WL is finially getting the treatment it deserves.

:confused3
yet you can post three long messages on here...oh ddank the man would be so dissapointed! :cat:

A general rehab of WL is great news and is long overdue. On our trip last Oct, the first floor carpet was really looking shoddy. I emailed WDW when I returned home to say that it takes some of the magic away when the building you love looks so worn in places. I actually got a call from a nice CM who listened to my thoughts and thanked me. Obviously, I wasn't the only one who complained.
