Okay, DH and I decided to try someplace new this year. We have decided on POFQ.
As I am always planning, number crunching, etc; (I don't mind spending money at Disney as long as I get the MOST for my money:goodvibes ) I figured out how much it would cost to stay at a deluxe.

Here is what we have:

POFQ Waterview room
4 People
DDP
(10% discount on room all nights through AAA)

Here is what I figured:

WL Standard Room
4 people (not like were going to grow another one :lmao: )
DDP
(10% discount first night, 15% discount rest of time)

To go from what we have at the Mod to the Deluxe is only $137.00!!:scared1: :scared1:

I think that we should go for it! But will I be disappointed going from a water view room to a standard room which may be of a parking lot? Are the accomodations that much better at a deluxe? DH always stayed at the Poly growing up. We like the mods though.
I'm sorry I'm blabbering here.
I guess my question is:

Should I go Mod with Waterview or Deluxe with Standard view?

Keep in mind transportation and such while trying to give me feedback.

Thanks!!!

We stayed water view POFQ in March '07 and LOVED it. But in March '08 we are staying at WL. My vote would be go for WL. For that little a difference it is worth trying. If you don't see the big fuss about a Deluxe go back to Moderate the next trip. We decided we wanted to see how the other half lives at least once!

For only $137 more, I would also go deluxe. We stayed at AKL our first visit, then POFQ our second. The Deluxes are really very nice, but so was POFQ.

It was fast and easy to get to our rooms at POFQ because it's not huge. I liked that there is a walking/running path that leads to POR. It was nice to take a stroll in the mornings with a cup of coffee. I liked the boat you can catch right there that will take you to Downtown Disney. We're staying there again this March. However, the deluxed would be $2K more that time of year....SO NOT worth it for that amount of money. However...for $137 more we would have done a deluxe in a nano-second.

Definitely Wl for only $137.00 more. Waterview at a mod isn't much since you don't have a balcony to enjoy it.

I agree. POFQ is beautiful - and I don't feel that an upgrade to a waterview is worth spending the extra $$.

Our first on-site resort was POFQ and we recently stayed at WL. Definately worth the extra $$$.

The problem is that you really shouldn't pay for a waterview room at POFQ. I've stayed in one, and won't do that again. It is certainly quiet there, but it is as far from everything as you can get. Which at POFQ is 5 min.

That is my sistuation too. Dh and I are trying to decide between POFQ and WL. How did you get the discounts? Did you DIY,through Disney ,through a travel agent. Those prices would definately be the deciding factor. I think Thanks

I am reserving my package through my AAA agent. We are staying 7 nights. One thing that factored in was that July 20 starts the value season at the deluxe resorts. Through AAA you get a 10% discount on the moderate. At the deluxe I will get 10% off my first night as it is still during summer season. For the next 6 nights the price goes down and I get 15% discount on top of that. If you are going during these time periods, just call your AAA rep and ask for quotes on both resorts. Just remember that AAA will "own" your reservation then and you will not be able to call CRO and get any info on your own reservation. I have a great AAA rep. I feel confident that she will handle eveything beautifully like she has in the past. Just make sure you are comfortable with your AAA rep. (Even with the cost of AAA, it may save you in room discounts.)

We are looking to go closer to the begining of June. Think we might still be able to get something similar or ir the discount because of the time of year? I see you wrote DDP. I assume that's the dining plan right? Thanks again

We have stayed at both WL and POFQ. We stayed at WL last October and will be at POFQ in Dec this year. I like both a lot but for the price difference I would choose WL especially if you have never been there. We loved being able to take the boat directly to the Magic Kingdom (and to take it back at the end of the day - never had to wait more than 10 minutes and the boat is closer than any buses). The theming is incredible and we loved the pool. There is no food court at WL but the counter restaurant had really good food and the portions were large enough to share for many things. Some people love Whispering Canyon restaurant which is right off of the lobby. It is not my favorite. We do love Artist Point however but it is pretty pricey and 2 credits on the dining plan. WL is not as big as many of the resorts so it never felt like there were a lot of people around. I like the rooms at the WL but I didn't find them that amazing. We loved the balcony and it was great having coffee out there each morning. Our room overlooked the main pool and the lake, but even if you overlook the woods, it is pretty. I just love smelling the pine trees which are everywhere.

The one problem we did have on several occasions was getting to Downtown Disney which is pretty easy from POFQ. Not sure what the problem was but we waited forever for the bus - 45 minutes and then the ride seems to take forever. Hope this helps. Whatever you decide I am sure you will have a great time. We are looking forward to going back to POFQ this year and I hope to get to WL again soon.

Dont pay the extra for water view at POFQ. We were only able to see the pool though some shrubs, and with the walkway we couldnt leave the window open anyway. For the amount of money you are talking about WL is your best bet.

i checked aaa website and it said a basic membership was $50

do i understand that this would get me a 10% discount on our room?

doesn't it also save on ticket prices, or did i imagine that?

For that price difference, I would choose WL. The resort itself is amazing, and very convenient to MK via boat or bus. With a standard view, you will either look out over the service area or roof peaks. My advice is to request a high-floor room on the North Wing. Even though looking down you'll see the service area, you should be able to see some of Wishes at night. :thumbsup2

I think that I pay $90 a year for the AAA plus for two adult drivers. We pay for the plus because it will tow you up to 100 miles for free. We live about 50 miles from our families, so it just made sense.
If you are booking a package, you have to book through AAA, but, yes, you would receive a 10% discount on a room if there is one available.
If you are booking a room only, I believe that you can reserve it with AAA discount through CRO.
That I am aware of, you do not receive a discount on the tickets or the DDP.
Our AAA is well worth the money for the savings at Disney alone. Not to mention that they will unlock my car for me up to 4 times a year for FREE!! Not that I ever lock my keys in my car or anything!!!:rolleyes1
(Thank Goodness for the remotes)

I, too, have stayed at both, and for that low price I would probably choose WL. It's true that the transportation to parks other than MK can be a pain from WL compared to POFQ, but the restaurant at WL is one of my favorites and you get the bigger beds. That's definitely worth that small amount of extra funds.

Well, we did it! We booked WL! I am so excited! I was having second thoughts about the extra money and even the water view at POFQ and DH said just to go for it. He said with the economy the way it is headed, who knows if we'll be able to go back for awhile. Hey, whatever DH says!:rotfl: :lmao:
Thanks to everyone who put in their opinions. I really think we made the right choice!

:thanks: party: :disrocks:

glad you were able to decide and i don't think you can go wrong with any of the resorts

it's just fun to be in the middle of the magic
