Made ressies yesterday for our 11th wedding anniversary in January for 3 nights/4 days. Booked at the WL. Now we have stayed at the WL many times before so we know what to expect as far as views, rooms, recreation, etc. Got the room at 144.00 for courtyard view. I saw the deal for 209.00 at GF for a garden view. I have the money to stay there, AND I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO STAY THERE EVER SINCE I LAID EYES ON THE PLACE IN 1995, but hubby says "too upscale for us", "too stuffy for us" BLAH BLAH BLAH!

So please tell me things about the GF that will help me decide (and I know I want to) to stay there. My hubby is so afraid of change it is pathetic!! LOL

For instance he wont like it if it is a long walk to the main building (that is why he loves WL) **He hated CBR because of the long walk to the main building** He wont like it if the transportation spots are hard and long to get too. I just need some help.

I am also going to read GF faq thread. Any help would be appreciated. Nothing worse than an unhappy hubby for anniversary....

:(

Stayed at both - LOVE both - but there is no comparison IMO to being on the monorail - so close to MK - being able to see the castle from your balcony if blessed with an MK view - the whole feel, decor and ambiance of GF - so romantic and beautiful!! - I would definitely do GF if celebrating something romantic - I love WL for a winter/xmas trip because of the decor etc there but romance goes to GF all the way!! The walk is not long at all to main building - it is NOT stuffy at all - no difference than any of the other deluxe resorts in that aspect - stayed there for the first time this October for my 5th wedding anniversary and I knew the day we checked in it would be difficult for me to stay anywhere else on property from now on - it's just so the Disney dream!! - I didn't even tell them it was our anniversary and though we were booked in Garden view we got an MK view which I did NOT request but secretly of course really wished for PLUS all of my requests were honered which was simply a king bed dormer room nonsmoking - the MK view was a complete surprise and huge plus!!- Definitely go with the GF - you will NOT regret it!!

Well, I have read the GF threads, looked at the MOST BEAUTIFUL pics of the resorts, checked out the maps, decided on requesting Sago Cay, cause of smoking preference, chewed it over with my hubby, AND HE SAID "GET US A ROOM"!!!!!!!!!!!!! YIPPPEEEE!!!!!! AND FINALLY DECIDED that is where I wanna stay instead of WL this time......then I called the most important phone number in my address book...1-407-W-DISNEY and............THERE ARE NO ROOMS AVAILABLE FOR MY ARRIVAL DATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Oh just my luck.

The CM told me to keep trying everyday to see if there is a cancellation. She said the GF was very busy and booked in January for some reason.

I WANNA STAY AT THE GF!!!!!!! But, if not, I am lucky to be going anyway and staying at the WL...but I will keep trying. My phone bill will probably be so high at the end of the month. :(

Thanks WDWAlways for your insight. :)

The GF does have a lot of conventions in January so I would definitely keep trying.

Also is you are going during the second weekend in January it could be because of the Marathon.

We will be there for Jan 16-19. :( Maybe if there are alot of conventions going on, it would be too crowded for us to enjoy?????? That is what I will keep thinking.;)

Call back and see if the GF is available for the 2nd and 3rd nights you will be there. Then you can change your WL reservation to one night and have them move your luggage over to the GF for the other two nights. Two nights at GF is better than none!! Lots of time I have to stay the first night at another resort because they tell me the GF is booked but if you ask for the next day as your arrival date, it is open. .... just a thought - you might want to consider.

I thought about that, and am seriously thinking calling and see if that is available!

Thank you TeenaS!!! You just made up my mind!!

Nothing open for those days, not even one night. :(

I will call again in a couple of days.

KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED.

Maybe Im being too picky. :o

Tig,
Definitely keep trying. We were trying to change room type at GF, and at the last minute, the one we wanted opened up. Cancelation dates might be a good time to check too.

Thanks Anne,

I will keep trying. I really wanna stay at the GF, due to our 11th wedding anniversary, I really want it to be romantic and different. 4 times at the WL is kinda boring now.

KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED!!! :)

Tig, I just checked online day by day, and a garden view the nite of the 16th is open (not sure about discount). 17th and 18th were not, so I tried Jan 14-Jan 17 to give you the 3 nights. There is a garden view for those nights (again, not sure about discount). Have you considered changing dates?

Anne,

They told me about the 14th-17th, and I had to decline that. I cant change dates. Hubby has 2 floating holidays and he cant get off any other time, so we are lucky to get that! His superviser is a real stick in the mud.LOL

I will call right now to see about the 16th, and go ahead and reserve that.

Thank you Anne!!! :) you are being soooo much help!

Anne, I did the same thing you did, and checked the 16th, and that is open, but I am not going to book it. I will just wait and see what comes available, if any. I have til the 23rd of Dec to use the discount codes, so I will keep trying.

IF ANY DIS'ers STAYING AT THE GF THOSE DATES, CANCEL PLEASE POST IT!!! LOL;)

I hope you are able to get your dates at the GF!! :) It's a wonderful resort! I always wanted to stay at the GF and for our honeymoon a couple of years ago, we did!! I couldn't think of a better place for a honeymoon and/or an anniversary! We had a garden room view and absolutely loved it! The GF is my favorite resort and will probably always hold a special place in my heart because of our honeymoon!

Oh...and it is definately NOT stuffy! It's just a wonderful, beautiful resort! If I could afford to stay there every trip, I would!

Hi! I hope you get it!!!!

We are having he exact SAME debate over at my house!

I want to stay at GF for Thanksgiving 2003,but my DH has his heart set on WL- we have stayed at neither.

I caved into him and now we are at WL. I don't mind so much because it will be a very nice setting for Thanksgiving. I want a woods view, so I can pretend I am camping! GF I definitely want to do in the future. DH wants to stay there for our 10yr anniv in 2 years.

Don't let a full resort deter you. When we were at AKL it was "fully booked" , but we never felt crowded at all.

Well, I asked hubby about staying the 16th at the GF then moving to the WL the last 2 nites. He said NOPE, that he doesnt want to be resort hopping when he gets there. He likes to stay put when we get somewhere. HHHMMM....ok..back to square one.

Keep calling everyday. Boy, hubby will wished he granted me my wish when he sees the phone bill... LOL

****Going to the phone****

KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED! (I have to get a room before the 23rd to get discount.) If not, I will be satisfied with the WL. (again)
