Hello! The kids and I are heading back to the World June 24-July 1st. Yahoo! Anyway, we are currently booked at the WL, woods view with bunk beds, with a 30% off PIN. It looks beautiful. But, I called Disney today, and it would be only $239 more for the week to change to CR garden wing, garden view. My 9 year old is begging me to switch. The CR seems like to ultimate Disney hotel to her. I should say the the Tower rooms are out of my budget. We are huge fans of MK, and we love our resort and pool time, hanging out, eating etc...Should we switch? Is the CR worth it? I don't know what to do. :confused3 Thanks.

IMO .... It all boils down to personal preference on the theming of the resort. I personally do not like the CR at all .... but that doesnt mean its not a nice resort. I personally would always choose WL over CR. I would (have) also choose WL over the Poly and GF over the Poly and CR. "Worth it" is very subjective and I can't really answer that ... what specifically are you expecting CR to have that WL doesn't for the extra $$$?

Ditto! Just like elaw said.. It boils down to preference. I haven't stay at CR, and probably never will because I prefer WL because of the theme. Can you do a split stay? This way you can experience both resorts. Or you can save your $239 and use it to buy souvenirs or maybe have two character meals out of that money. : )

I think my daughter is taken with the idea of the monorail zooming through the hotel, as well as the ability to walk to the MK. The resorts are so very different. I think that is why it is so hard!

I don't think the Monorail goes through the Garden Rooms section ... just the main tower. I will probably at some point stay there one night (Main Building CL MK View) just to say I've tried it .... but It'll have to be a split stay with WL.

I'm not a big fan of the Contemporary - especially the garden wing. Yes, the rooms are bigger than what you will have at WL and it is convenient to walk to the MK. But unless you have a tower room with a nice view, the place doesn't do anything for me.

WL is just plain gorgeous. The little details are everywhere and they have carried the theming throughout the resort. For example, the fireplace in the atrium is sculpted out of rock that is supposed to be representative of the levels of the grand canyon with the oldest at the bottom. If you go to the upper floors there are little display cases that show you the fossils found in the rocks from that era.

WL is my choice too but have you talked to your DS? I also would choose WL over any monorail but it may be a guy thing. Maybe DH is the tie breaker?

I LOVE the WL!!!! It's absolutely beautiful!

This year, however, since younger DS will be 3 & we will, therefore, no longer "fit" in the WL (unless we stay in one of the deluxe rooms), we're staying for the first time at the Contemporary.

And I'm very afraid I'm going to miss the WL!

The castmembers are wonderful! I love the Mickey waffles for breakfast. The pool is so nice! The lobby is amazing! The boat ride to the MK is so peaceful. It's just a gorgeous resort!

Hopefully, we'll like the Contemporary too. DH & the kids are excited. Older DS is very excited about the arcade. DH thinks it's going to be wonderful to be able to walk to the MK. I do think the rooms are nice. And the monorail being right there will be fun too.

So, while I don't think you can go wrong w/ the WL, I think the Contemporary would be fun too (hopefully ;) )!

And I'll be the dissenter in this thread and vote for CR, but I usually go to the Sierras a couple of times a year, so a wilderness theme in Florida doesn't do much for me.

It's true that the monorail doesn't go "through" the Garden Wing, but it's pretty much right there. And yes, the rooms offer much more space. Also, to me, being able to walk to MK is huge (I'm guessing that's the park the OP will visit most), and you are much more accessible to the other MK resorts as well.

The one drawback is that CR's pool is definitely inferior, and the OP mentioned pool time as important.

What does DS prefer? Let him be the deciding vote (assuming the kids are the ones coughing up the extra $239). :lmao:

I'd hang on the WL. Look at it this way, after a long day and night at the MK, it would be a pretty decent walk from the front gate of the MK to the garden wing of the CR, even if you took the monorail back. You'll probably be dragging by the time you got back to your room. To get back to the WL, you would take a boat with a short walk back to even the farthest rooms. You can't go wrong either way, but my vote is for the WL!

Thanks for the quick replies! DS is happy anywhere really, but he does love the look of WL. We have decided to stay put. DD understands the $239 will buy her a dinner with Pooh at the Crystal Palace, her fav! Can't wait, and thanks again for helping a mom out. :thumbsup2 Now I just need to stay off the DIS, because I keep reading about all of the different resorts, and they all sound so wonderful!

If it helps .... I've stayed at most of the deluxes and WL is still my favorite. I've only had one trip to WDW and not stayed at WL and vowed to never do that again because I missed it too much .... For me WL is WDW

I actually switched from the CR to WL for my upcoming visit. The theme and HUGE price difference did it for me. I have well over two grand in savings in my pocket!!!!

OP here. Well, we decided to change from WL to Port Orleans Riverside, garden view! The savings was over 1k, which means another set of plane tickets to go to the World next MLK vacation. It was family decision. We would rather go again than go deluxe. We are happy :cool1:

Congrats and good idea! We love PO but we like the FQ more than Riverside.

IMO .... It all boils down to personal preference on the theming of the resort.

If this was true I don't think anyone would stay at the CR... specially when comparing it to the beauty of the WL. The main reason to stay at the CR is because of convenience. If your favorite park in the MK, there's no place better to stay than at the CR or BLT. You can walk or ride the monorail to and from the MK.

We were debating the same thing and chose WL. I don't want to pay all that money to stay in the garden wing. If I'm going to stay at CR, I want to be in the tower (but of course that makes the price difference larger).

In any event, I see that you chose POR and I think that's a good choice too! :thumbsup2 Definitely nice to save all that $$$.
