Right now we are book for 9 nights at WL in a honeymoon suite with AAA discount. In looking around on the Disney website, I discovered we can get a standard CL room at AKL. No AAA discount at AKL CL but even without the discount the price is the same as WL honeymoon suite w/ the AAA discount. (I am still hoping for AP discounts; we are not checking into a Disney hotel until 01/01.) When I called CRO, the CM said the standard CL room at AKL is a standard view  and not savannah view. I thought 'standard' simply meant a smaller room vs deluxe size room. Does anyone know if standard CL is really a parking lot view? Also, would you chose WL honeymoon suite or CL AKL and why? Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I would stay at WL. I have stayed at both & love them both. But I think the Suite is great. You get a big tub right? In Jan the fireplace in the lobby would be a great place to relax. you will feel closer to everything. I think that WL is just a little more romantic.

I agree with Kae, WL is more romantic with the tub & huge fireplace in lobby. I too have stayed in both resorts and it is a tough call! If your not getting a savannah view at AKL; I suggest a WL suite, definately!! I was surprised at the size of the savannah rooms at AKL, they're not that big?!?!? Very nice and cool to be in, but if you are planning on being out and about for the 9 days and not sitting on the balconey watching the animals; it really wont matter much. If you choose WL, do plan to go to Boma or Jiko restaurants they are great and tour the outback trails while your there! That alone is magical!!!! AKL has an outback firepit where they tell stories, but Jan could be cold! Good luck and have a wonderful time!!!!

My problem is we have stayed at both AKL & WL and I love both of them. It is hard to decide between the firepit & story telling and the wonderful smells at the AKL each time you walk in. And....there is the frunch at Boma my favorite breakfast spot at Disney - yummy. But the fireplace & jacuzzi tub after walking in the parks all day are calling out to me too. We have done the sunrise safari before but never the sunset one. But WL is just a boat ride away from MK & we can see the light parade from the beach at WL. Geeze.. decisions decisions. I thought about splitting our stay between the two places but we have split stays before and it seems like when you just get settled in you have to pack and unpack again.

I think WL would be more romantic for a honeymoon. Plus AKL seems so far removed from everything else.

Not throw a kink in the works but we stayed at the GF in main lodge in honeymoon rooms. The most amazing and romantic experiance of my life.

These rooms in a somewhat hidden part of the main lodge with jacuzzi tubs overlooking the castle and had club level access. We pretty much ate 4 meals a day there for free. The out of the way hallway was nice because there were never people or kids running up down the hall.

Being on the monorail was a big plus cause we could sneak back quickly for "naps".

I think we may still be paying for our honeymoon but it was very romantic. We got dressed up one night and ate at Victoria and Alberts and I got a great picture of my bride with the beast.

Good luck making your decision but you have already made the right decision in that your going to DW for your honeymoon. You wont regret it.

We stayed in a WL Honeymoon room 10 years ago on our Honeymoon-I would do it all over again. We were very happy. If I had your choice to make-I would pick the WL choice...JMHO.:)

Have a wonderful honeymoon!

Does anyone know if standard CL is really a parking lot view?

I had reservations for a pair of AKL CL rooms (which I've since cancelled, for the sake of maybe booking a less costly package... trying to save to buy a house, lol), but in some e-mail conversations with the concierge, I verified this very question, here was my response:

At this point, all our standard club-level room should have savanna views. We had some 6th floor pool views (that is why they could never guarantee it), but they went away with the construction.

I guess I'm in the minority, I would choose AKL in a heart beat. Before staying there I thought I would like it, but that it wouldn't be one of my favorites. It is now one of my top three favorite deluxe resorts, it's not my number one because I honestly love all of my top threes equally.

Ditto that!
We got married Oct 1 2005 and honeymooned at WL Honeymoon suite #7085. We had a view of the fireworks from our balcony. It was amazing!!! Worth every penny!

The standard AKL CL rooms are very nice - all on the 4th floor and all facing the savannah. I love AKL and didn't like WL when we stayed there once - the transportation other than to MK was very slow and the rooms were quite small. I also thought the food court area was too small for all the guests they have. I looked in my Luxury WDW book and they comment that there are 4 honeymoon suites at WL and only two offer a reasonable view; the others look over the roof toward the villas. Plus, it says they are dormer balconies so you have to stand for any view you might get. Unless you really want that jacuzzi tub, I would change to AKL. Their IPO and concierge staff are wonderful, you have the fire pit if you want, you could do the sunset tour with dinner at Jiko's, etc. The only thing I would suggest if you switch is that you make sure you are not on the sunset savannah because they are constructing the AKV on that side of the resort (I don't think you will be - I think all CL rooms face Arusha Savannah).
