anyone else book the wilderness lodge holiday horse carriage ride? we did for dec 1st for 8pm b/c that was the only time slot. i'm wondering now if that time will be to dark to really see anything but we going anyways.
is the carriage ride to fort wilderness and back? pam

The WL ride is in the dark. We couldn't see anything until we got to the barns at FW. It is totally secluded. I couldn't believe we were at WDW with thousands of other guests. Even if it starts at 5:00 it will be getting dark.

We loved doing this last Dec. My MIL and mother both said it was their favorite activity that I had planned. My MIL sang Christmas songs the entire time. We drank hot chocolate from Roaring Forkings.

Kelly was our driver and Travis was his horse. I hope I have that right and not reversed. He was running about 20 minutes behind schedule. We had the 7:00 and 7:30 rides reserved. It takes some time to get on and off of the carriage. He never rushed any of our rides.

Yes, it will be dark and there isn't much to see - just some dark woods as you ride along the path to Fort Wilderness and back. It is a really nice time, though. The carriage is made up to look like a sleigh complete with false runners covering up the wheels, Christmas decorations, and even jingle bells. There's a nice blanket to snuggle under ,which was great because it was cold when we went last year! Take some hot chocolate with you. It's just a really "Chrismassy" thing to do! Have fun!

I just booked our Sleigh Ride for 12/21 at 8pm...dark or not I think it will be very relaxing and enjoyable. We have an ADR at Artist Point at 5:30 and if we finish really early then we'll just check out the WD decorations and grab that cup of hot chocolate before we go for the ride. We're just wanting a nice way to finish off our "Relaxation Day"...night before is MVMCP so the 21st is a sleep in, do the spa stuff, eat a nice dinner, and do the sleigh ride...should take care of the relaxing well enough.

we did this last year - can't remember if it was 9 or 9:30...I am pretty sure it was the last time slot of the evening...anyway it was pitch black! you couldn't see your hand in front of your face!!

But it was so much fun, we'd do it again!

We've booked it for 12/4 at 5pm. Then dinner at WCC at 6pm, and to top off the night.....

WISHES CRUISE at 8:45pm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We did it last year and also had Kelly as our driver with Travis the horse!

Great fun! DD was a little wary as it was so dark in the woods, but we sang songs and had a blast!

Dont expect to see much - this works well if your group can get into some festive spirit with carols and stuff, but it isnt really a "scenic" tour - its pitch dark!!

Would definately do it again if we went back at Christmas.

triplefig- sounds like your going to have a wonderful night 12/4!

maybe i'll get some glow sticks for my kids age 2 and 5 so they won't be scared of the darkness!

I am looking forward to it! We're bringing glow sticks and small flashlights for these type events (fireworks, carriage ride, Haunted Mansion, dark que lines). I think it will help tremendously!

I'm so glad to hear that everyone has enjoyed it. We have our ride for the 12/18 at 8:00pm. I'm looking so forward to it. It's a surprise for my DH, DS, and DD.

Is the WL the only place that you can take carriage rides from? Also how do you go about reserving one? Thanks :goodvibes

You mentioned "group". How many people can go on the ride at the same time?

thanks

There were 5 of us, 3 adults and two children aged 4 and 2.

I think that is the maximum capacity. We probably would have got another child or two onboard though!

Autumn Sun - to make a resessie for a carriage ride cal 407-WDW-PLAY. You can also take a carriage ride at Port Orleans - Riverside. At WL for the holidays they are offering a psuedo-sleigh ride and I think they are the only ones.

It's sound so nice.. but pitch dark? So pretty much of the ride you're in the dark? How long is the ride and how much is it? Thanks!

hi everyone. I am going to WDW this year for my wedding and honeymoon in December. I would love to book this. Christmas & Disney are my 2 favorite things. My whole wedding is a Christmas theme & I am finally going to stay at the Grand Floridian. How much is this ride and how do i book?

Thanks for any help.

*Fantasia*-I'm so glad I can answer your question. You've been so helpful with the information and pics of POFQ. Which my family and I will be staying at this Christmas. Anyway, the cost for the sleigh ride at WL is $35.00 for :30 min. It is only $5.00 more than the normal carriage ride cost. If your wanting to book the big wagon ride for a party of 30 adults it's $125.

PrincessMo- You can book the sleigh ride, carriage ride or the big wagon ride if you were thinking about doing something with the wedding party at 407-WDW-PLAY. When I booked my sleigh ride the CM told me you can bring a drinks including Champgne if you would like to. Our kids will be with us so we will probably do Sparkling Cider or Hot Chocolate like someone mentioned earlier.

I think as far as it being really dark I'll be picking up two small flashlights for my DS and DD. Niether one of them are afraid of the dark but, it might be a little nerve racking for my DD (21mnths) being in a new enviorment.

We did this a couple of years ago....I am going to try to post the picture but I haven't done this is quite a while so bear with me....

We really had a great time. No, you don't go anywhere exciting, but the CM who drove us was fantastic and loved horses. So she & my daughter made an immediate connection....she was giving my daughter hints on how to talk my hubby into buying her a horse!

Here is a picture farther back so you can see the horse.
