Dear “ Family”
First, thank you for your kindness, from you I know it is from the heart and true.

I had a (somewhat scary) set back, but they have me back on my feet. I am now on a regiment of vitamins and supplements to pump me up for surgery schedule for 2/19. I am told to expect to be in the hospital for 6-10 days with a week of home recovery after that. The Dr. went over the procedure with me and it includes 6-8 days of no food ad many with no drinking. Yahoo, doesn’t that sound like fun. DD said to look at the bright side you will lose some weight, and my reply is yes, or in jail for mugging the food cart pusher. However she came back and said that it would be more likely your pinching a Nurse.

Kimmer, no doubt you will be to PART 4, by the time I get back. Consider having a volunteer copying the vital information from pages 1 & 2 of Part 3 to the first page before any posts happen so the Newbies can find it easily. Thank you for your wisdom to create such a special place where we can come to forget our cares for awhile. I love your new tags, and thanks to the Blessed TF for the joy it spreads. I am sending it a huge box of “Turtles”, Yummy.

I have not the vocabulary to express my thanks properly to each and every one of you. The joy I have received from our encounter will never be forgotten. When I stumbled, as an unknowing Newbie, onto this Magical thread so many month’s ago, little did I then realize what a treasure I had discovered. I hope in some way I have contributed to your joy.

Dear “Family” continue to:
Be kind to one another, and comfort each other in time of need.
To make each other smile, laugh and share tears of joy.
Enlighten the Newbies to the Magic of the Bear, it is real you know.
To be Wacky, Zany and above all just downright silly.

Good luck and if the Good Lord is wiling, I will catch up with you down the road. Always remember what I have told you many times.

I just read your message, and I'm sitting here with tears rolling down my cheeks. You are a sweet man, a great weatherman, and just a wonderful human being. I know that everything will be fine. God is good, and all things happen for a reason. Know that I, and the rest of your "family" will be praying for you. I know that with your great attitude and wonderful sense of humor, you will be back on here in no time at all. I will miss you while you are away, as will everyone. We have an update on Roy from his daughter:


ROY/DAD'S SURGERY WAS YESTERDAY -
IT WAS A VERY ROUGH DAY BUT THANK GOODNESS HE WAS NEVER ALERT. THEY POSTPONED THE BEGINNING FROM 7 AM TO ALMOST 8:30 AS HE HAD A COUGH THEY WERE VERY CONCERNED WITH AND COULD NOT STOP. THEY EVENTUALLY PUT HIM TO SLEEP SO THEY COULD GET HIS SPINE BLOCK IN. THE SURGERY LASTED UNTIL APPX 11:30 - BUT THEY KEPT HIM IN RECOVERY UNTIL 6:00 PM LAST NIGHT. HE IS NOW IN INTENSIVE CARE.

THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REMOVE THE RESPORATORY YET AS HIS BREATHING HAS REMAINED LABORED (OXYGEN IS 59 ON HIS OWN FOR THE MEDICAL FRIENDS).

HE IS RECEIVING EXCELLENT CARE.


I CALLED AT 6 AM AND THEY SAID HE HAD A RESTFUL NIGHT AND THAT HE OPENED HIS EYES A COUPLE OF TIMES RESPONDED TO
NOISES.

HIS DR IS VERY PLEASED WITH THE SURGERY AND THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS WILL BE THE MOST IMPORTANT. THEY EXPECT TO KEEP HIM IN ICC UTIL SUN OR MON AND THEN PROBABLY ANOTHER WEEK IN THE HOSPITAL.

I hope you continue to get better each day, Roy. I have read your posts about how much you love Wilderness Lodge and that is one reason that I am so eager to check it out for myself on my upcoming trip. Here's hoping that you get well very quickly and you are able to make another trip there really soon!

Here is another update for today:



Roy had a long day but was kept comfortable and his pain is under control.
He may be moved from ICU as early as tomorrow. Ventilator removed and he is
breathing on his own.

He has been through quite an ordeal and the recovery will be long, but
bearable with the prayers and help of great friends like his buddies of WL.

Thanks again for all the prayers - God is listening.
