Hello!!! I love planning our family DVC vacations, but sometimes I turn my mind inside out  thinking about them!!! So, I thought I'd turn my thoughts loose on my fellow DVCer's so I can think again! Anyways, I'm wondering what my chances might be at getting a 2 BR at VWL for the week before Christmas (just made ressies at BCV for 12/18-12/23). We keep saying we're going to try other resorts, & the VWL seems like it would be a neat choice around Christmas time! Any experiences out there?? I know you just never know for sure, but it's interesting to see what others have done! Thanks!!;)

You will face three issues with booking VWL at that time, being a non-VWL member at the 7 month window.

1. Extremely busy time of year for DVC in general.
2. VWL is the smallest DVC resort in terms of number of rooms.
3. VWL is arguably the best Christmas themed DVC resort, causing many to seek it out in this busy period.

The great news, is that you already have a reservation for BCV during that time, so you don't have to worry about being shut out of DVC.

Also, VWL has the exact same point structure as BCV, so you would be trading out exactly the same points. Therefore, you could waitlist right up until the last minute if necessary without worring about Use Year, expiring points, etc.

And of course, you'll never know unless you try.

Good luck to you! :)

I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't get the room when you first call, but I also wouldn't hestitate to go on the waitlist. A lot of plans can change in 7 months.

Thank you for the replies! I've never waitlisted anything before...How would this work for this situation? Can you waitlist for the 5 nts together, or is it day by day? I would not want to end up switching back & forth between resorts! Thanks again!

You can waitlist day by day or for the whole stay. Obviously, day by day may come quicker but as you said, may end up incomplete. Depending how many points you own, depends what I would do. When my points allow for it, I have done day by day and finally pieced together my ressie and than canceled at my home resort. (At no point was I putting any points in banking/borrowing jeopardy). If you don't have enought points for that, I would do whole stay only.

good luck
Sandy

Since you are already booked at a fantastic DVC resort (I think they all are), I would just wait list the entire thing so you wouldn't have to worry about getting just a part of it.

After all, your "worst case" scenario is to spend a holiday vacation at WDW in the BCV. Something many people would consider a once-in-a-lifetime vacation!

Thanks for the advice! We definitely love the BCV (we spent NYE, 2003 there!!), we just thought it might be fun to try another one at Christmas! Whatever the final result, we are going & that's the best part!! I've marked May 24 on my calendar to check the availability for all of the vacation at once...We'll see what happens!! Have a magical day!! ::MickeyMo

You are talking about the week before xmas. Disney might not be too busy yet. I did get VWL for the week before labor day at about 5 months out.

I hope you get lucky. I hope to go around the same time someday.
