Wk Of Sept 8 - WISH Walking/Running Club

I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with WWDave thinking about me in the shower. :rolleyes1 :confused3 :lmao:

The co-ed locker room deal is a different kettle of fish. :thumbsup2

I was so disturbed by Dave thinking of you in the shower that I completely missed the co-ed locker room the first time by... :lmao:

Ironz - :welcome:

Ga Jen - I don't know that being motivated by green and red boxes is any less simple than being motivated by not wanting to report to a bunch of people you've never met that you didn't run... :rolleyes1

CJ - Thanks for the quotes. I particularly like the Amby Burfoot one about getting to the starting line strong and healthy!

Renee - Good job on the run this morning. I'd have made the same decision when confronting the hill! Is this dad's first birthday without your mom?

Thanks to everyone for all the PD. I'm trying to be very good and stay off the foot. Those of you who've had similar injuries obviously know just how difficult it is. I had NO idea! DD is already past sympathetic, DH has a little left; fortunately my coworkers have more patience and will help (since our breakroom where we eat lunch is on the 2nd floor with no elevator!)

Jackie

It is, so I'm going out of my way to try to make it special. I stopped by his house this morning and he's doing okay, although starting to look old. (I guess if you can make it to 77 before you look "old" you're not doing too bad!) Thanks for asking!

PD continuing to stream your way. I'm thinking about Shelley Lake for my 11 miles this Saturday.. Someday (soon) I hope I'll see you out there!

Renee

Ok Bill I did everything you've said, but when I go to listen to the shuffle it plays music that I've never heard before??? How do I get my music into the shuffle? I'm horrible at computers!

Download ITunes on your computer. It is free and a necessity to put music on the Ipod. Once loaded, open ITunes and stick your music CD's into the computer. Click yes a time or two and wait for it to put the music on the computer. Repeat as many times as necessary. Then hook up your Ipod to the computer and select the songs you want to transfer and have it sync up.

ETA - If it doesn't automatically ask you to download them, click on the import button in the bottom right hand corner.

Bill

Jackie

Those were my thoughts exactly!

I also thought....... if I were Big Vic, I'd be pretty scared!:scared1:

Good evening WISH team!
I ran 4 1/2 miles yesterday and felt fine. It was rainy and cool but the rain held stopped just when I wanted to run, so I ran outside. It drizzled on and off but it felt kind of good. Then today I ran 3 miles. I've got some sort of problem with the outside top of my right foot and when I finished the run, it really hurt. There's no bruise and I don't remember hurting it, so I have no idea what's wrong. I iced it and will ice it again and it is feeling better. But it hurts when I walk when I roll my weight onto it. Weird.

Tricia: good luck with the stretching study. I hope you don't get hurt by not stretching, although that would show something to the researchers!

Becky: congrats on signing up for the Goofy but I thought that was filled a long time ago. How did you manage to sign up for it?

Lisa: I am so happy to hear your knee is fine but LOL re: crooked body! I think just about everyone is off-kilter so to speak!!

Dana: :cool1: on your 3 mile run! Great splits--now, don't hurt yourself!!

Dona: maybe you ought to take the darling children out with you so they can run off some energy.

Andrew: you have a marathon on September 23? Good luck to you!!!

CJ: I like those inspirational sayings! Thanks for sharing them.

WWDave: I've heard that too but I'm always afraid of eating as I might hurl. Maybe it's what I eat and how much.

Beth: how did the run go? I hope you get better soon! :wizard:

Kevin: happy to hear you've started the marathon training! Are you following any plan in particular?

Bill: I was thinking the same thing re: WWDave thinking about Vic but I didn't want to go there!

Big Vic: gentlemen, PLEASE--there are ladies present!!

Mouse Skywalker: we're all thinking of you and sending lots of support  please let us know what we can do.

ironz: :welcome: but, ahem, you consider yourself NOT speedy? You are in my book!!!

Renee: I like the way you think! That was the perfect thing to do!! :lmao:

Jackie: hope the foot is healing. :wizard: for your foot!

I'm off to cook dinner. DD has it underway but is asking lots of questions. I hope everyone has a lovely evening!

I did get 3.25 miles in today. on the treadmill -- while the kids did their version of football -- which bears no resemblance to the actual game -- or to any players, living or dead. The treadmill is in what we loving refer to as the "workshop" -- it's a place to park and store stuff -- no heat or air, but lights and electricity. :woohoo: so I'm sort of outside with them. Close enough to hear if there's blood loss.

Martha Actually, that's how I managed yesterday. They were playing their "calvin ball" style game that involves a ball that pops open at unexpected times. I forget what it's called. Anyway -----enough rambling.

Hope everyone has a great evening.

Dona :)

let's see...I did 3 miles on Mon in 40:39 on the TM. That was R4/W2. I did 30 min XT with some stretches and exercises for core last night,. Today was 3 miles on the TM in 39:44. That was R3/W2. I still have some work to do pacewise, but I'm pretty happy with the way things are going. My foot's holding up (knock on wood), so I'm hoping the extra stretching is helping. I'm kinda thinking about studying for the personal trainer exam, but not sure what I'd do with it once I got it. I don't think I really need anymore initials after my name, but I see a lot of patients that are struggling with weight and wondering if the trainer certification would help.

ironz...:welcome:

Vic...your schedule looks familiar...are you following the higdon plan, too?

Martha...how's your higdon going? And what are we having for dinner? don't worry about the locker room talk...we can always start up a jog bra or running skirt conversation ;)

Tricia...that study sounds cool! What kind of stretching are you doing?

Renee...great job on the 4 miles! It's always hard to run when your brain doesn't want to come with.

Jackie...hope the foot is healing well! I'm not good at sidelining for injury.

Dave...:grouphug: thinking about you and your family.

Dana...we're taking a not-so-accidental trip to MK this weekend for the HM reopening. What day are y'all going?

Bill, Lynnda...are you guys coming over for the HM? We could have a little mini-meet!

Kevin...what day are you coming up to EPCOT?

Krista...:yay: :yay: it's football season! I thought about you guys when the Bengals game was on. I never got a fantasy team this year so I'm watching just for fun now.

I found some of the SIGG bottles at Whole Foods. They are great! Tried the 20 oz for my run tonight...love the way the top works. And they are sooo light! No more plastic bottles that I save and refill...and no more plastic bottles in the landfill (I may be a bit of a treehugger  )

Hey everyone, I just realized I have been lurking the last couple of days. I guess I didn't get time to post after reading all the shenanigans. Yesterday I did 35 minutes of cross training (25 on the EFX and 10 on the rotating stair thing). Tonight I did 40 minutes run walk. It was bad news, I just couldn't get into the groove, so my walk intervals were 5 minutes. But my time was still OK, so I am not upset about it. I did 2.75 miles in 40 minutes with 1/2 of it walking.

Krista - Thanks for popping in! My foot is doing pretty good. I am really impressed that it only has been slightly sore after long runs, but I can stretch the pain out. Now my LR's are really quite short at the moment, so I am not sure how my foot will be once the miles start piling on.

Mel - I am liking the longer walks also. It gives my breathing a break and I don't feel so worn out. And if it gets me to the finish, that's all I am asking for. Good Job your runs. I am glad your foot is doing OK, mine is holding up pretty well at the moment also.

Martha - Your DD sounds like my DH. He will offer to cook dinner, but then asks so many questions that I might as well do it myself! I hope it was good.

SWDave - I am glad you have running to help you through this difficult time. :grouphug:

Bill - Why are you asleep so late in the morning???

OK, I gotta get some things done. Between training, kids homework, dinner and house stuff, I don't have enough time in my evening. Ughhhh!

Let's try this again. Bad storms tonight. Knocked the power out right in the middle of my post. :sad2:

Mel said:
Vic...your schedule looks familiar...are you following the higdon plan, too?

Yep, doing the Higdon novice plan.

Couldn't get outside tonight due to the weather, so it was 3 miles on the TM.

Glad to hear the foot is doing well.

Mel - One of the staff members of our cardiac rehab team started as a registered dietician. Most of the other staff come from a nursing background. She felt it would be good to be able to rehab them physically and counsel them on better eating habits at the same time. You never know, a personal trainer certificate may be beneficial. Good luck!
Ironz - A big hearty WELCOME to ya!
Jen - Sorry you didn't get in the groove for your run. Was it physical, mental, a little of both? How's the weather up in Wisconsin? We're having cool but beautiful weather here in eastern Iowa.
Vic - W'Sup big guy!
Dona - Thats the best way to play football. Plus it's no blood, no foul.
Martha - Hope the rain was nice and cool rather than the hot, humid, still sticky rain. Hope your foot gets to feeling better.
WWDave - I don't think your gonna live that post down any time too soon. They're still gonna be talking about it come Marathon Weekend '08.
Anne - Thank you very much for the pictures. They turned out great!

I love how the Florida WISHers say they accidentally end up at WDW. I, on the other hand, accidentally end up opening the freezer when I really wanted the fridge. I open the wrong cupboard, enter the wrong password, and even (yes this is a man admitting this here - don't tell my DW Darcey aka DJBounce)... accidentally take a wrong turn now and then. Maybe in Florida y'all live soooo close to the magic that your accidents lead you to WDW. Well, give Mickey a hug for me...I really miss that mouse!:sad1:

Training Note:
I am fortunate enough to live really close (like three blocks) from the bike path that winds through most of Davenport. I don't have to drive there, and my walking to it and back to my home after my runs constitutes as warm ups and cool downs. But today I thought I would mix it up a bit. The city next to Davenport has a bike path that connects with Davenport's so I thought I would head over and run in Bettendorf for my 60 min of 4/2 (r/w). It was a nice change of scenery. The weather was picture perfect - mid 60's, no clouds, all sun. Turned out to be a great run. Loved it! I even saw a small school of fish swimming in the creek that runs along next to the bike path, the water was sooo clear. A real Zen like run for me.

Happy Training!

Bill, Lynnda...are you guys coming over for the HM? We could have a little mini-meet!

Yep, I think the plan is to go over on Saturday morning sometime. Since I am not the official event coordinater, I don't have the exact times. I am just the driver so I may not be privy to that information yet. :lmao:

Bill - Why are you asleep so late in the morning???

With a little one, I tend to operate on auto-pilot for most of the day. ;) Normally I get up around 5 and get into work around 6 so I am awake but around lunchtime I usually want a nap so I pretend that I am asleep. :rolleyes1

We head our for the store and then 90 minutes later we are in the Disney parking lot...I think Mickey put a chip in the car to drag us over at random times just so we can help support the company.

Ok Bill I did everything you've said, but when I go to listen to the shuffle it plays music that I've never heard before??? How do I get my music into the shuffle? I'm horrible at computers!

I am going off memory now so I hope it is close. In Itunes, if you click on the Library (left column box) you will see all the songs that Itunes has in it. There are a few songs that come with your computer or Itunes brought in. We have seen several of these and take them off. You can click on the little box next to the song to have it deselected. Once the shuffle is plugged into the computer, you should be able to see what songs are on the shuffle as well. If you see something that shouldn't be there, go back to the library and find that song and deselect it. Make sure the shuffle syncs up and makes any changes you want.

Bill

Good morning WISHers! :goodvibes Nice to hear from so many the last few days!

I ((((finally)))) had a great 5 mile run last night. I felt rested, my legs had energy, I got into a groove by mile 1, and the weather was cool and breezy! It was pretty much perfect. It has been a long time since I had a pleasant run, and I enjoyed it immensily! I wanted to make it longer, but I am supposed to be tapering.....so I didn't want to push it!

Ironz: Welcome to the group! Glad to have you.

WWDave: So, yeah it will be awhile until people stop ragging on you about that "co-ed" post!:rotfl: Oh, well, it could have been worse!

Nancy: You have been suspeciouly quiet......did you get your 8 miles in this week?

BigVic: At least you got your 3 miles in! TM isn't our first choice, but it sure is nice when the weather isn't agreeable to be outside!

Beth

Good morning, team!!!! The weather is finally cooling off here, it's down right chilly in the mornings. :yay: I had the best 3 mile run last night, it almost made me wish I was still training for Columbus. Almost. ;) I decided that I would do r4/w1 intervals and during the running intervals I would not let my pace dip into the 11:00's and during the walk intervals I would not let my pace dip past 14:30. I finished 3 miles in 32:00 with splits of 10:54, 10:37, and 10:32. Not as impressive as Dana's splits, but I was excited none the less. :) I think I'm going to do 4 miles tonight and then maybe 6 on Saturday. I want to run at least 15 miles a week, so all that will add up to 16 miles.

Hoos Jen--Congrats on officially starting Goofy training!!

Mel--Hmm, those water bottles look like something I would like! I usually reuse my plastic bottles or if I'm just making loops, leave a water bottle sitting on the driveway, I can't run with a regular water bottle because they sweat so much. I was wondering if you were doing your fantasy league this year. You know, we have so many big football fans on the Wish team, we could have done our own fantasy league. I definitely could have made a draft in say Epcot or the Magic Kingdom. :)

SW Dave--I'll be thinking about you Saturday. You and your family are in my prayers.

Martha--:wizard: for your foot!!!

Andrew--Thanks, Joe! ;) By the way, you scared me for a minute with all the Ocho Cinco stuff, I thought, "if he is a Bungels fan, we are so not friends anymore". :) I remember last fall there was a poster who posted on this thread a couple of times and then vanished, I was so glad that she didn't stick around because she was from Cincinnati, BUT she was a Bungels fan. I talk so much smack during football season, I thought there was no way she would take anything I said about running seriously and we would have a throw down at the next Wish meet. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Christa--In case I don't make on it here before Saturday, GOOD LUCK ON YOUR RIDE!!!!!!!!!!!! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Jen--YAY for getting your steps in! Sorry the run wasn't the best, but at least you were out there. Are things getting a little better for your family?

I better get off here and get to work, I had to post real quick when I had a few minutes and I'm not bombarded with paper work! Have a great day everyone! :goodvibes

Hi everyone! :wave2:

I feel terrible that I haven't even really been lurking around here for the past several months. Talk about a giant LTO!

But I have an excuse! A really really good one!

DH and I signed up for both the DL Half for this year and the WDW Half for this coming January. When I was signing up for both events way back in February, I thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be funny if I got pregnant now that we've committed to do these races?"

Yup, pretty funny indeed, because that's precisely what's happened!!!! :)

I'm due in January (over marathon weekend), so it looks like we'll be cheering y'all on from home this year. DH and I are both SO excited - this will be our first little one. :cloud9:

So, that's my story. I've been so tired that I haven't even done much walking at all. We did still go to DL last week and watched part of the race go through DTD, but we didn't see any WISH shirts. We did search for them, though!

I'm hoping to get back into some sort of a fitness routine, even if it's much reduced from what we were doing earlier this year. I actually miss getting out and moving! Hoping for some cooldown in the weather so it won't be so miserable outside. I figure if I can get back in the groove now, it will be much easier for me to pick it back up after baby arrives. And I'm determined that we'll be doing the Donald in 2009!

I'll try to do better about keeping up here, too. I miss chatting with everyone!

I figured I would post a link to the stretch study I am participating in http://www.usatf.org/stretchStudy/

I am not worried about injuries by not stretching pre run because I normally don't stretch pre run (I do post run and other times of the day just normally not pre run) so its not really anything different for me.

I think I have made up my mind to start training for a half marathon :scared1: I don't know if I am crazy or not but it just so happened that yesterday I sat down and actually made a training schedule together for the 13k and I looked at the local marathon date (Marathon of the Palm Beaches) and it happens to be 12 weeks away and the Hal Higdon training schedule for novices for a half marathon is 12 weeks and the training schedule I had made out for the 13k (following Hal Higdon's 15k training schedule) had me doing more at most times then the 1/2 training schedule did so I merged the 2 and am on track for a Dec 2 1/2 marathon. In the mean time I signed up for 2 more events in Oct. Oct 13 I am running a 5k in my town (I am actually really excited to run a race in my town which is also my hometown) Then the other event I am doing is Oct 20 - a walk for Making Strides for Breast Cancer. I figured those are good warm ups for the 13k and worked them into my training schedule. It also keeps me motivated.

Sorry this is just a drive by and a post only about me :sad2: but I am wishing everyone :wizard: pixie dust and good wishes for happy training!!
