Wk Of Sept 8 - WISH Walking/Running Club

I walked on my tm for 30mins. this morning....I'm really taking it easy because I don't want my pf to start up again til after the 9/30th marathon...I am having such a hard time with it. Anyhoot, for you computer people, DH bought my an Ipod shuffle for my birthday (9/12) and I don't have a clue on how to download my cd's to it. I don't want the music that they offer on Itunes.com and would prefer to have my own. How do I download my cd's? Thanks.;)

Download ITunes on your computer. It is free and a necessity to put music on the Ipod. Once loaded, open ITunes and stick your music CD's into the computer. Click yes a time or two and wait for it to put the music on the computer. Repeat as many times as necessary. Then hook up your Ipod to the computer and select the songs you want to transfer and have it sync up.

ETA - If it doesn't automatically ask you to download them, click on the import button in the bottom right hand corner.

Hey all!! Well after a yucky day at work, I came home and did 37 minutes out on the road with the dog. IT WAS 49 DEGREES TODAY! And rainy, except when I was running. So it was a shock for me. I wore my tights and a long sleeve shirt. It just seems too early to be this cold. Let me tell you, even tho I am a cold wimp (and a hot wimp), I still went out and ran. My chest wasn't too happy with the cold damp air I was breathing!!!

Has anyone heard how Lynne did at the Ironman? Did I miss a post?? Sunday's weather turned rotten here, so I was thinking of her.

I'm switching to walking.

It isn't worth reinjuring the knee.

On a positive note, the hubby enjoyed torturing me this morning by rolling out my ITB on that leg. Let's just say the last time I screamed that loud from pain....I gave birth to a 10 pound 14 ounce boy.:scared1: :scared1:

Hey everybody! I ran 3 miles last night, so I'm allowed to post today (my rule is no running/exercising then no posting), I know you are all so happy. ;) :) I had a decent run, I can't remember my time, but I was around an 11:00 mile. The hardest part of the run was having to constantly remind myself that I'm running for me and not in training, so my pace and overall time doesn't matter at all. That's going to take some time getting used to, I have never run purely for running's sake.

Did everyone see my beautiful city last night? I hate the Bengals with a passion, but I still love Cincinnati.   We won't even talk about the numerous questionable calls last night (the worst being the pass interference call on Todd Heap), I'm just thrilled to have football back!!

There have been lots of new members join our Wish team since I took my little hiatus, so to all the newbies: WELCOME!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: I am going to attempt to catch up with everyone, attempt being the key word. ;)

Lisa--Sorry that you are having issues with your knee! I have battled in the IT band war before so I know how painful that injury is. :wizard: :wizard: to your knee and your Goofy training!

FL Bill--Thanks for the ITunes lesson for downloading cd's. I've had my shuffle for almost a year and I could never figure out how to download my cd's. I do have to say that ITunes is the EASIEST way to download music.

Monte--Give ITunes a chance, there are a TON of songs on there in every type of music. Good luck on your marathon!

SW Dave--Thinking of you and your family!

Kristi--Thanks for the PM!

Jen--49 degrees???? You are lucky! Yesterday it was 85 here and we thought we were in the middle of a cold front! Nice job getting out there in the rain! How is your PF doing?

Denny--Stephen and I were just talking about you and M'Lisse, wondering how the big move went. Are you still planning on running the ToT?

Christa--Your poor DH! I bet he was so worried when he couldn't get a hold of you! How are you handling the taper madness?

Dana--I can't believe how fast you are! I plan on using my time off to work on speed and getting faster, not that I'll ever be able to run a 8:40 pace, but I'd settle for upper 9:00's or lower 10:00's.

Beth--Congrats on your 20 miler!!!! Don't worry that the run wasn't that great, I'm pretty sure it's a rule that your 20 miler is going to be terrible. :) Kind of like a bad dress rehearsal makes for a great performance. You did the distance, so that's a HUGE victory!!!! Be very proud of yourself!

Kelley--I thought about you last night during the Bengals/Ravens game. We're only on the same side twice a year. ;)

Stephanie--Congrats on your 20 miler!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: The marathon is getting close for you and DH!!

Jackie--YAY on the fracture!!!! And lots of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: that you'll be able to run the Raleigh half in November!

Cam--It sounds like you and Carrie had an awesome weekend together. I am very jealous that I wasn't there!

I better get off here and start working, I have been insanely busy the last month or so, once I start my day, there isn't any coming up for air. The good thing about that is the days are flying by! 45 days til WDW!!!!! :cheer2:

Lisa - Question. How are your shoes? I know having babies changed how I ran so I had to go with a different kind of shoe. The same thing happened when I lost weight. I now pronate (sp?) and I did not b/4.:confused3 I am assuming you go to a running store to get your shoes. So let them have a look at how you run and that MAY (or may not) help. Good luck and lots of :wizard: :wizard: to you.

Krista - WTG on the run! Did not see the game though b/c I was ASLEEP by 2000.
Taper maddness is setting in and I just started the taper. Really...I do not do well with rest days and tapering, even though I know it is needed.

Here is what my week looks like!
Monday - 5 miles running
I will do NOTHING today (except dance rehearsal, but I do not count that).
Wednesday - Bike a slow 20 miles to keep legs loose.
Thursday - NOTHING
Friday - NOTHING
Saturday - MS Century Bike ride

Dave.
I'm sorry about your mom. I lost my dad several years ago, and you are not prepared, even if you think you are. Saying a special prayer for you this morning that your grief will slowly be replaced by good memories of times with your mom.

Denny--Stephen and I were just talking about you and M'Lisse, wondering how the big move went. Are you still planning on running the ToT?

Krista,
We will definately be at the ToT run. We'll look for you and Stephen. M'Lisse and I often talk about how much fun we all had at "The Pig".

Christa,
Good Luck on your big event. I stopped by the Charlotte Running Co. store in Ballantyne Parkway yesterday, asking about possible running areas. The store clerk directed me to the Col Francis Beatty park. I drove through it, and it looks like I would just need to "explore" to figure out where the various roads and paths lead to. It looks like a prime candidate for getting lost. I am going to give your friend a call for suggestions though. Thanks.

Greetings all -

The WTO aggravation continues. :headache: I was home yesterday because we got a little storage barn delivered. It's so cute! I just want to put window boxes and flowers on it. ;)

Saturday I did six miles at the track. I forgot to bring in my splits, but that's OK because they weren't so great anyway. We didn't get to the track until 7:30am and by then already it is completely in the sun. It was so hot and humid I couldn't stand it. Even at that hour. Then we went to a local Grange Fair and again I was out in the sun. Then Sunday was a rest day but we went to the Oyster Festival and all day we were out in the sun. Yesterday I was off and spent half the day....yup, out in the sun. Between the sun and the humidity I feel worn out. I'm kinda glad it's raining today. This morning I did three miles on the TM. I really feel like I'm getting back in the groove.

MSDave - My heart goes out to you and your family.

Krista
- Kudos for you for doing what you know is the right thing for YOU. Take a break, but as others have said.....don't leave us. You know what happens when people disappear from here. :rolleyes1

Denny - I'm glad you are finally settled in. :thumbsup2 What a project moving is, isn't it? I hope you love it there!

Lisa
- How's the knee today? The IT band? Have I mentioned how glad I am that you are back on the WISH board? I missed you here. :goodvibes

Jackie - Oh I'm glad it's broken instead of torn! (I know this sounds strange, even as I type it) Much better, right? Oh YAY!

Dana
- You were totally smokin' there! Whooo hooo! :woohoo:

WWDave - I'm so glad you guys are coming to the 2008 Minnie. :yay:

BTW, to everyone that emailed Charlie last week after his 5K PR....THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! He was so touched. I always tell him how great and supportive you guys are...now he sees it for himself! :thumbsup2

For those who don't know, the Tower of Terror course maps are now up on the site. I'm finding them a little confusing to read though.

Dave - sorry to hear about your loss. You and your family are in our thought and prayers.

Lynne finished her 5th Ironman in 14:31. It took until this race for Mike Ricci (the announcer) to say "Lynne Johnson you are an Ironman" as she crossed the finish line. Erin and I have come to the conclusion the reason she does these races it to find someone doing there first race and making sure they cross the finish line.

No training for Erin and I this weekend even though we were constantly on our feet walking for place to place to cheer Lynne on as she went by. We even walked a little of the second loop with her. She offered to let us walk the last 6 miles but we declined.

We are going to the gym tonight for cross training. Will get back to the walk/run program on Wed.

Great job to everyone for getting the steps in.

Kathy - Thanks for the update. Tell Lynne I said congrats!

Lisa - Hope the leg is feeling better

Jackie - While no one wants to be injured, I think a break is better than tendon/ligament damage. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Denny - Congrats and good luck in the new house!

After doing my 5K on Sat., my plan was a 4 miler on Sunday. The achilles said NO! I gave it a day of rest and did the 4 miles last night. Felt good. finished in 53:43 (13:26 mpm pace). :)

Went to Dr. today and had the echocardiogram and doppler done. Won't have the results for 2-3 days. Although the tech said the doppler looked good (no DVT's :thumbsup2 ). Hoping the echo is fine so that may rule out any heart issues. Then I'll just have to figure out why I'm just not feeling "right" (aside from being a member of YARC;) ).

It's raining here today, so I'll probably hit the gym tonight for some xt.

Terri

Happy Tuesday WISHers!
I ran 9+ miles in the wretched heat here and although the time wasn't so great, I still ran it. Then 3 miles on Sunday and rest day yesterday. Today I'm to run 4 miles (since I messed up last week and ran 5 1/2 miles instead of 4) and it's now raining. I'm not complaining, mind you, since we so desperately need it, but could it stop between 5 and 6:30 so I can run outside?

Dave:  Please know you are in our thoughts!

Lynne: congrats, IronMAN!!! You rock!

jeanneg: I think the course map shows we start at MGM studios parking lot and run out and down and around Wide World of Sports then back to the studios and run around in the park and finish at the Tower of Terror. Any idea what the bling looks like?

Judy: I hear ya on the awful heat this past weekend. I sure hope the weather is better this weekend!

Christa: good luck on your event this weekend! Let us know how it goes.

aladdinsgirl: :thumbsup2 on the run! Great job!!!

Jen117: I'll take the 49 degrees just for a couple days then the 60s are fine for me. But I'd really like a long run when it isn't so hot!!!

Well, I oughta look busy so I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

I ran/walked a 5k on the treadmill this morning and it wasn't pretty. Took me over 42 minutes. I didn't want to push myself but I wanted to finish. Thankfully I finished but still I didn't like my time. I signed up for a USATF stretch study. Just found out about it and signed up to participate. They are doing a study to determine the effect of pre-run stretching on running injuries. They have 2 different groups - the stretching group and the non stretching group and I was assigned to the non stretching group (probably because I don't normally do alot of stretching prior to my run.) So for the next 3 months I will be apart of this study. Hopefully it will result in some good research. I am allowed to stretch after or at some other time just not prior to running.

Lynne Congrats on being called an Ironman - how awsome for you!!!

Jen117 I would love some of that 49 degree weather down here!! Its still WAY to hot.

jeanneg I too find the map confusing - it looks like we are running up and through the big hat but I know that isn't the case. Looking at Google sattelite map as compared to the corse map its not that easy to figure out once it gets into MGM - I think I followed it for a little over 5 miles but couldn't figure out the the other 3 which must all be within MGM.

Christa Good luck this weekend

Anyone else I missed I apologize. Happy training and good luck if participating in an event this weekend.

Good afternoon WISH team! I don't know if I am coming off a high from running the DL half or if I am just nuts  but I just signed myself up for the Goofy!!! (had to book a room through anthony travel, but my dad can use it). Am I crazy or what??

Lisa - Sorry about your knee! I will probably be walking the goofy as well. I have been having knee pain for a couple of weeks now. I took a cold bath and put lots of ice on after the DL half, but I can still feel that something isn't right. Like you, I don't want to risk getting injured.

Christa - Good luck on saturday!:yay:

Just wanted to pass this along, really cool designs. Aluminum water bottles that are eco-friendly and stand up to sports drinks! They have a bunch of different sizes and designs.

Happy follow up for me!!! Complete details are in post 9 of my Walking Mayday thread!!!

But my knee is TOTALLY HEALTHY!!!!

Saw PT today (they called to schedule an appt for another problem and were able to squeeze me in today since my cruise is Saturday).....

Went in for the little devil called the sacrum and psoas---wholly Moses, my PT is awesome though I think in a prior life he worked the torture chamber trying to fold folks into pretzels for fun!

Basically--I am crooked! Yep---tilted, so it LOOKS like one side is longer than the other--but b/c of that little devil being tight, it pulls on the spine and causes me to tilt to one side....then b/c of that, it caused the ITB to get fussy....and b/c it got fussy, the knee decided to speak her peace and cause problems.

He checked and couldn't make my knee do "the pop" so all the crackling is b/c of the ITB and not any particular knee issue!

So YEAHHHHHH!!!!

I will resume training tomorrow, but hubby and I are going to go about simpler methods! I DO NOT WANT TO BE INJURED!!!! So maybe more walking, less running...I don't know yet.

Still want to finish within 7 clock hours (not chip hours---I lose track and all the course clocks are set to official time anyway!)

I will also going back to wearing my knee strap. It gave me much confidence during the Donald in 2006--doesn't really do anything but provide pschyological support (aka placebo effect), but I do feel that at least it prevents the knee from doing something wacky.

Any thoughts....anyone!!! What would you do if you were wearing my running shoes?

Lisa - Question. How are your shoes? I know having babies changed how I ran so I had to go with a different kind of shoe. The same thing happened when I lost weight. I now pronate (sp?) and I did not b/4.:confused3 I am assuming you go to a running store to get your shoes. So let them have a look at how you run and that MAY (or may not) help. Good luck and lots of :wizard: :wizard: to you.

I just started a new stability pair.

Yes I did try them out in a running store and have been checked. I can go stability or motion control, but I have only had 1 motion control that I have liked. The others I have tried and used I hated.

I updated at the post above...

But all signs, poking, prodding, observing, and palpating (is that the right word) of my body point to this all being caused by the psoas muscle tightening up.

I will be firing him immediately. I don't know his purpose, but I don't want him anymore. That little devil causes way to many problems for me!

The good news is I can be fixed--have been fixed before and will again. I had to stop all the exercises I had from my last therapy (kept up with it for about a year) due to being so sick while pregant then too big while pregant.

I have been putting this off since the big boy was born as I had planned all along to go get it corrected.
