Wk Of Sept 8 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Dave--so, so sorry to hear about your mom. Know that you and your family are definitely in my and Krista's thoughts and prayers.

Steve

Dave,

So sorry; thoughts and prayers.

Colleen...when I took the running clinic a couple months ago, the guy recommended stopping halfway through a run to stretch for about 5 minutes. I haven't had the guts to try stopping for that long yet, but maybe I'll try it since it worked so well for you!

I've been meaning to mention to you that I have been trying to stop about halfway on my LSD and stretch (not 5 minutes) and it's nice. Thanks for that tip!

Wendy- 18 miles is a long way! Great job for getting it done!

Dave- Sorry to hear about your mom. My GG has dementia and she's slowly going downhill.

I have achiness in the left knee.

I ran with a knee strap post surgery as it helped keep things in place and made me feel better about running on it. I am wondering if I should have been doing that these past couple of weeks.

We shall see. Concern is minimal now. But 2 weeks in....too early for that.

SW Dave--I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you go through this time. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

MSDave - John(DH-Space Ranger) & I are so sorry for your loss. :grouphug: & pixiedust: to you and your family as you go through this very hard time.

I got out yesterday for the long run and was surprised that it wasn't 100% humidity around. Then I actually felt a cool breeze. I thought it might be a nice run afterall. I thought too soon. A mile into it it started raining and did so for about the next mile. Enough to get me totally drenched. Then the breeze went away. :sad2: At mile 6 it started raining again for the next .5 miles. It did feel a little nice but made it nice and steamy. After all that, I was able to get 10 miles in with an 11:59 pace. I was fairly happy with that under the circumstances.

SWDave - Sorry to hear about your mom. :sad1:

Mel - I'm glad you found a way to get around running although after the full, a half would be a walk in the park for you. Oh wait, that is part of the course isn't it. ;)

Denny - Glad you were able to get moved.

Lynne - It looks like you are doing great. Congrats on your newest accomplishment.

Have a great week everyone.

Bill

SWDave- I am so sorry for your loss. Sending prayers and lots of :wizard:

SWDave, Sorry for the loss of your Mom. PD to you and family as all go through this time. I WISH you good memories to help you get through it all.

Dave -- sorry about your sad news. Never feel bad about those "downer posts" -- the folks here (as evidenced by all their posts) are so supportive when we have to face those downer times.

Good morning team!!!
Sorry quick drive by this morning will check back later today.

Got my 18.2 K done yesterday!!!! Felt great. Today is a rest day....wahooo.

Kim

SWdave: so sorry to hear about your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Wendy: you are truly the walking queen! Running may be much more taxing physically, but we walkers know how time consuming those long training sessions can be. So far my longest walk has been only 14 miles. I would like to train up to 22 or, at the very least, 20 miles, but am dreading the time committment.

Denny: congrats on getting settled after your move. Betch won't find too many Lehigh alumni in SC!

Christa: sorry about your recent near collision. Please be careful! BTW, any more news about the body?

Vic: glad the new inserts are working for you!

Mel, Stephanie, Renee: congrats on the long runs this past weekend. You guys are FAST!!!!:worship:

Denny: congrats on getting settled after your move. Betch won't find too many Lehigh alumni in SC!

Jean,
You're probably right, but I might be surprised. So far, practically everyone that we've met in our neighborhood is from the north; NY, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Rhode Island. We may have to re-draw the Mason-Dixon Line.:rotfl:

Dave-- So very sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Kevin :earsboy:

SW Dave: I am so sorry to hear about your mom......I lost my mom in 2001 and it was very difficult. I am sorry for your loss.

So.....on the training note.......I did 20 miles yesterday, and can I say it was BAD! I was acutely miserable. Around 16 miles I wanted to sit down and cry, but couldn't find a bench. I am now severely doubting that this marathon will ever get done. :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 During my 20 mile training run I was even questioning the "why" of the situation. Why did I ever think that this is something I want to do???? :scared1:  I am committed to trying, but I now think it might lead to my first DNF.

My dh wants me to be more positive, but I can't seem to get there....but love him for trying!

Absolutely am NOT supposed to be on here at work, but have to report...

Had the MRI this morning. Doc just called me with the results - I have a fracture, not a torn tendon. Told me to use crutches for the next three weeks; no weight at all on the foot. I told him I had to ask what the outlook is for the Raleigh marathon on 11/4 - run, walk, not at all - he said I'll be able to do it!

Jackie

Beth--You will be able to do this! It is completely normal to feel that way during training. We all have questioned "why?" at some time during training--but trust me, the memories you will have of this time will make it all worth it. Heck, if this were easy, everybody would be out running marathons--but they're not. What we're all doing here is huge. I always remember a comment Lance Armstrong said after finishing the NY marathon--that running a marathon was the hardest thing he's ever done--geez, the guy has beaten cancer and won the Tour de France multiple times, even he thought the 26.2 was hard. The race "experience" will get you to the start and then the finish line. My advice, enjoy the experience, take it all in--relish every bit of it. I don't think you were around these parts when I was training for my 1st marathon last winter. I got sick right before the 20 mile run, and I couldn't finish it. I got really depressed and almost decided to throw in the towel. But with the WISH team, along with my great support system here, I got to the starting line and then the finish line. Just think, all the hard work is behind you. Now it's time to get crazy during taper time, and have fun with your race! Make sure to take lots of pics and journal, so this time next year you can go back and say "Wow, look what I accomplished!" We'll be here to celebrate with you in a few weeks when you're in the afterglow of finishing your race!
