Wk of Oct 29--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Carrie-- I missed you! Here's to no more injuries :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: and to be packetless as well :furious: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: PD will fly it straight to your mailbox today!

Sunny

Carrie-- :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your knee!! Definitely take same time to rest it and I think you may need some new shoes too. Kayanos anyone? ;) I'll do the packet dance that we both get our packets tonight! :dancer: :dancer: :dancer:

Cecilia--I'm so glad that you are feeling better! The housework was the first to go for me too. My house is a wreck and we are eating frozen dinners every night, but by golly we are getting our runs in!! :rotfl: :rotfl: The only bad part is, Stephen and I don't have any kids, so we really don't have an excuse!

Heather--Great job on your run today.

Does anyone have any of the Run Disney merchandise from the Disney Store? I thought about getting my Mom and Dad the long sleeved shirts for Christmas for the marathon. I wondered how comfy they are.

Good luck to everyone who is going trick or treating tonight, stay safe!!!

I had heard other people struggle with it but that was the first time I had actually experienced that kind of doubt. DH says it the exhaustion from trying to do everything I used to do AND train for a marathon. He wants me to cut out one of my runs each week. No can do. So I have decided to cut out cleaning the house.
Yes, this is EXACTLY what I've been struggling with too. I've been trying to do everything I normally do, and I added training for a marathon on top of it. This past month has really run me down because I had to go present at our big national meeting, do the normal home stuff, plus keep up the running. It's been really hard for me with my DW not knowing about the marathon because she just thinks "what's the big deal, just don't run." I really need to tell her soon. It's looking like the weekend of Nov 10th is going to be free for us now (in-laws coming this weekend), and I am going to plan on breaking the news to her then.

Great job on your treadmill run today Cecilia.

Krista - Not having kids is the perfect excuse not to cook. I would eat out every night if we didn't have the boy!!!! I can't really say anything about housework. I try to not have it on my list of things to do anyway!!

Rested today. That actually felt pretty good. I think i over did it w/ the 11 hour race, the 15 mile run and the 10(it was 10 instead of 9) mile trail run. Yesterday i mt. biked the 10 mile trail. Usually i feel better if i excecise when i feel a cold coming on, but it just didn't work for me this time. I feel a little better today, and i did nothing but run errands and packk for the trip tomorrow. I'm still not packed.

Oh yeah...everyone from last year would be so proud of me. I gave dis travel advice to a friend who has not been. I told her you guys would be impressed!! As far as she knew, i spoke fluent disney!!

Happy Halloween everyone!

I did 30 minutes on the bike today. Not a lot, but it was something.
Had my ASL midterm tonight (on Halloween, yet - the nerve!) It was a toughie, but I think i did ok.

I'm thinking of getting new running shoes, to break them in before the marathon. It seems like everyone likes the Kayano's. So fill me in. What's so special about them?

Cecilia - I echo all the comments you've already gotten. You're already doing great. Just keep working at it and you'll have no problem in Jan. Taking a rest day now and then won't hurt either. It may actually help your recovery time between training sessions. Listen to your body.

Carrie - no injuries allowed. Take care of yourself.

Dave - you're keeping me in suspense. I can't wiat to hear the reaction of DW when you tell her about the marathon! :)

Terri

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I haven't had a lot of time to catch up with my teammates lately, and I wanted to make ammends for that. My training report - yesterday I did 50 min of x-training on the elliptical (including 5 min wu and cd). Today I have a tempo run scheduled. I'll either do it on the track or on the treadmill. Had a great halloween last night. The princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:, had a great time trick or treating, and we had great weather for the first time that I can remember - warm and in the 60's.

Whoo hooo, it's Nov 1st and PAYDAY. Carrie- I think you mentioned something about retail therapy. Well, I think I need to replace my running shoes that I've been using since June 1st, and I've been waiting until Nov to do it. Yay, I can go to the running store again.

Mel/Chimera- Congrats on the 5K PR! That's awesome. Don't worry about what DD or DH can do. Remember you're just competing with yourself.

Jen- WTG on your 10K!!! You placed in your age group! Awesome!!! See who is sponsoring the race, local running store maybe, they usually have the awards in the store that you can pick up.

Heather- great job on getting outside for your 8 mile LR this weekend.

MelR- 9 miles with 1100ft climb!!!! Wow, I'm impressed. I know you're bummed that you didn't do 2 loops, but that is still an impressive run. Have a great trip to Santa Barbara.

:rotfl2: :lmao: Uuuummm, you think you over did it? I think that would be my workouts for the month. Get some rest Mel.

Welcome Back Lily- We missed you here! Glad you got some runs in on your cruise. Hope you had a great time.

Craig- Good job on your 13 mile LR this weekend. Sounds like you are cruising right along in your training. I hope things are going a little better for you in your work.

Helen- Congrats on half-marathon #17!!! WTG!

Mike- Great job on your 16 mile LR this weekend with those wind gusts. I was fighting them too out there and they were really something. Although I liked it when it was at my back.

Dana- Hope your knee and aches and pains are doing OK. You have been doing great. I'm really proud of everything you've accomplished so far including quitting smoking. WTG!!!

Teri/Outonarun- Whew... 16 miles on the treadmill, I'm impressed. WTG!!!

Krista- They didn't show the Steeler game here in Rochester except for the last minute. Wow, the Steelers looked awful. What the heck is going on? Four interceptions from Roethlisberger? OK, I'm now turning my attention towards getting a good draft pick next year - just kidding... I'm so glad you had some good runs on the treadmill recently. WTG!

Judy- Any news regarding Mist? I'm thinking positive thoughts for you.

Sunny- Wow, you have come such a long way in your training. You are doing great. 16 miles Saturday, 60 min on the elliptical as hard as you can go, and sub-11 min miles. You are back girl!!!

Kristi- Yay, glad you're back!!! Good job on your bike x-training.

Jim- Great job on your 10 miler, and good luck with your 14 miler your all time long distance. I'm getting into that territory too, and it's fun.

Bekah- CONGRATULATIONS on your half-marathon in Grand Rapids. Great time, great pictures, and great shirt. That is absolutely wonderful. Good for you!!!

Jodi- Congratulations on your 1st wedding anniversary. Hope oyu had a great trip in Salem.

Amy- Yay, I'm so glad your legs are feeling better. Hang in there, and give yourself time to rest and recover. I think your plan of decreasing your pace on the LRs and swapping one run/week with some x-training is a good one. You need to listen to your body, and take what it gives you. You gotta be at the starting line.

Terri- I had forgotten that you were learning ASL. Wow, good for you. You have a lot on your plate right now too.

Kevin- Just wanted to wish you well, and I hope your motivation is back for the training. Good luck with the balancing/juggling act.

OK, time to get ready for work. Although I have some time. I might soak in the tub before taking a shower.

Well I didnt get my run in yesterday. I'm the idiot that said "yes" when they called me to sub for 4th graders on Halloween. After I hung up the phone I realized what day it was & said "uh-oh" Well, I was right, they were soooo wound up yesterday! Then get home, hope the rain goes away & trick or treat. So I'll get my 3 miles in today.

Cecelia-I have had many of those "what the @#@! am I thinking" moments. But this group got me through it and I know you'll get thru it too. I laughed when I saw the first to go is the housework. :thumbsup2

Dave-tell DW soon!!! We want to hear about her reaction. I know she will be thrilled & excited for your

Judy-I hope things go well with Mist! :wizard:

Today I am taking the day off from doing school stuff, volunteer or paid, and getting caught up on shopping & house stuff.

Have a great day everyone!

Dave - Holy Cow! That was an impressive catch up post! Happy shoe shopping!

MelR - I am so proud of your Disney knowledge! ;)

Terri - I love Asics in general. I've loved themn since teh 1980s. I've just heard great things about them. Technically, they are for perople with an average arch who weigh over 150 pounds, according to RR Sports. So, go for teh 2120s if you want people to think you're skinny! ;)

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
Thanks for teh mail pixie dust Sunny! You must have a gift! :goodvibes Here's what was in our box yesterday:

1. 2 - Race Packets, wish I remebered the numbers. I *think* it was 6892 (Scott) and 6893 (me). We commented on moving up over 100 numbers from last year.

2. Road Runner Sports Catolog

3. Favorite Scrapping Magazine

4. No bills!

Holy Cow! I love the RR Sports catalog! They shoe section was very well timed. Big news, 2120s are second best for my foot shape and weight. Kayonos would be #1! (Only down side was that's because I weigh more than the small to medium-framed person. ) Then again, they have pink 2120s. :rotfl: Hip/knee/hammy feel better today, but still hurt. Not going to run tonight, gonna' shoe shop.

Oh no! Panic attack setting in. Barely enough time to say  .

I can't find my WISH Team bracelet!! :scared1:

It's got to be around here somewhere. I last wore it on Oct 14 in a race. I know I brought it home. I pray I didn't throw it away accidentally when I was cleaning out the toss-or-keep items in my race packet.

Please send :wizard:

Thanks!

Number 29146 Checking in (I think that was my number, I don't have the packet in front of me). I screamed when I got the mail last night. DD6 new exactly why, she said "Mommy got her race stuff". What a cutie!

I ordered too big of a shirt tho. Can I call and make that change?

OK, I haven't ran since my 10K on Saturday. I just haven't had the time. I am struggling just like the rest of you. I am a wife, mother, employee, chauffer, coach, boss... you name it, I am doing it. Some days my training just suffers. This morning I told DH that I didn't think I could train like this anymore, but I am neglecting other things. It is just wearing me out.

So anyway, I had to go to the bathroom this morning, early. Well, not really early, but at the time I would if I was getting up to run. So I got up and hit the treadmill.... my legs were so stiff that I had the stonkeriest of all stonker runs. I could barely muddle out a 3R/2W. but I did it for 32 minutes. I complained this morning and DH said,

"It's not about how fast or how good you did it, it's the fact that you got up and did it!"

So those are my words of encouragement this morning.

Dave - WOW - you were up before the roosters this morning. Have fun shoe shopping.

Carrie - Take care of yourself. You definately don't want to get injured this close to the "big" one.

Kel - Oh I hope you find that bracelet.

OK, I am swamped at work and have TONS of meetings today. Then I have to run DD6 to gymnastics, then run to meet my mom for dinner, then we are going to a play. It will be a late night for me. I am meeting mom at a Chinese place that has decent sushi... yum!

Good morning all. Happy November!

I took yesterday off from work. It was one of my "I wasn't in the mood" days. I realized somehow I have accumulated 24 sick days so I thought I'd use one. Yesterday morning I did 30 min on the TM and 10 on the bike. I have kicked up the bike workout a bit so it's a struggle. It's an old stationary bike but works well. But I have no idea how fast or far I go.

Thank you all very much for your kind words about the Mist situation. :goodvibes No updates yet. Hopefully all the PD you guys sent will bring the judge to his senses.

I have a little funny to share this morning...I was talking to a friend yesterday about staying Deluxe vs Moderate. We were discussing the YC. I said I didn't know anyone else who had ever stayed at the YC, except Kevin. She asked me who Kevin was. It was kinda hard to explain. But I really feel like I KNOW you guys. Geez, I spent time with you all every day. But the more I tried to explain "Well, I don't really KNOW him know him, I just know him from the Boards..." I just got myself in deeper. :rotfl:

Carrie - Ohh, I hope your knee is better today. :wizard:

Cecilia - Oh honey..... I know how you feel, but look at what you did! That's a heck of a long distance!! WISE MOVE! Cut out all that unnecessary house cleaning. I know I have!

Ladies, those of you in my age range anyway, 40-somethings.....don't you think our good days and bad days of training might have something to do with....let me say this in a Disney-like way......being pre-or in the middle of...."The Change"? My MD tells me I'm headed down that road, and I see and feel the subtle signs. I wonder sometimes if fluctuating hormones and all the other biological and chemical changes going on effect our training sessions. Hmmmmm....

Craig - Honestly. I have never met anyone like you. (OK I haven't actually met you yet either.) But you ALWAYS ALWAYS say THE perfect thing! I am constantly amazed and in awe of your words of wisdom. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Sunny - Ha ha! Parked the car! :lmao: If that's the case, I should pay monthly garage rental here. :teeth:

Jen - Excellent words of encouragement! :thumbsup2

Cam - Thank you for the blessing! :goodvibes

:drive: Complete and total drive-by here... I've been lurking on this thread for a while, but I confess I am struggling to keep up with all my subscribed threads, work, and training. You guys blow me away! I'd still like to check in periodically though to keep myself on track with my training walks, if you don't mind.

Cecilia (and others who periodically question their sanity), you are extraordinary for attempting this monumental thing, and you are going to feel so great about your accomplishment when you are sporting your medal! The training is the hard part -- particularly over the next couple of months as the mileage increases and we get tired and think we should be stronger, faster, etc. So many folks have said so many wonderful things and I will only add to that that I have met many, many folks who SAY they want to do a marathon, but there are only a few of us in this wide world who actually put in the miles and make the effort. Folks talk about how amazing it is making it to the finish line -- but I want to tell you that making it to the starting line despite work, family, sickness, and all life's other major and minor distractions is a feat to be celebrated (and envied). As a mom of 3 who has done 20+ extremely sloooooow marathons, I can assure you that if you want to, you can do this thing. (Next week, please be prepared to remind me of all this, will you?)

I did 16 miles on Monday (teachers' workday home with the kids) and got up at 3AM to get in today's 7-miler (on the treadmill) before work. (Wish I was faster so the darned miles didn't take me so long!!! :teeth: )

My packet finally came last night, but between getting the kids to swim practice and then trick-or-treating, I didn't even get a chance to open it. I'll post my number later.

Wendy - Of course you're stil l more than welcome to be here! SIlly you!

Judy - OT story. I have a firend I knew from here. SHe's Christian music singer. She had a concert not far from us, so dh and I went. he felt he knew her too. Well, so here we are at this Christian retirement community, explainig to teh pastor and residents how we know each other. From teh internet. We're both Disney lovers. ALthough a nice guy, that pastor did not have the magic in him. So awkward! Then again, my mom will tell you all the wonders of teh internet and what a blessing it is, because her daughter was motivated to do a marathon because of it. SHe could probably tell you a lot about my friends Cam and Mel and Kevin and Heather too. There are many more that she just can't put a name to also. Has she met any? Nope, but she recognizes Cam right away in my scrap book. :teeth: She can't wait to actually meet my friends at Illuminations!

Jen - Did you tell your dh that's just what your WISH friends would say? You got the steps in. That's what matters!

Lily - A very belated welcome back! We missed oyu!

Greetings TEAM:

Quick drive-by post to give you my training results for today. I went outside and ran during my lunch break. I did 3.93 miles in 40 min (10:13 mpm) in the hilly Mt. Hope Cemetery. I know, I know, I should have just done 4 miles, but I really needed to get back to work. I figured stopping at 40 min and stretching after my run would be better for me than that extra 0.07 mile to get me to an even 4.

Here's my splits:
Mile 1: 9:50 min
Mile 2: 12:03 min (2 hills - one BFH)
Mile 3: 9:33 min
Lap 4 (0.93 mile): 8:42 min (9:21 mpm).

OK, gotta run pick up DD5 princess: from school today while DW takes DD8 princess: to the doctor.

ETA: Oh yeah, I forgot to say that I DID do my cold water soak this morning before my shower. Got in the tub with only the cold water on for 30 min and read my Runner's World. Man, that was colder than I remember before. I wonder if our cold water is colder now that the ground is getting colder. I don't remember shivering before.

I tend to contribute it to my body being colder in teh winter. I get chills after I run when it's cold out. You never know, though.

Hi Everyone -

Well, I am busy psyching myself up for my 10 mile mid-week run. This is a hill run simply because the flat spots in North Georgia only last about a tenth of a mile. This is also a run in the dark since my running partners all work and the only time we can all make it is 6pm. Gee, I have no idea why I can't get excited about running up and down hills in the dark for ten miles.

The good thing is that we run as a group. Slowest runner sets the pace. This does two things for me #1) I feel stronger since I have to slow my pace for someone else. Hey, a false sense of superiority does wonders for the ego. and #2) I am beginning to know these people better than my own family. We have some interesting conversations as we grunt and groan up the hills. We may not have scenery but we have a great conversation.

Hopefully tonight will give me a new sense of hope that I can actually run a full marathon. I am feeling better, but I know that I won't be completely cured until I finish another long run feeling strong. Ok, I will settle for feeling "not crippled."

Thanks again everyone for all the encouragement. I really really hope you guys are right.

Cecilia

Ummmm.....Cecelia? You had a 15-miler Saturday and you're doing 10 mid week? I know I'm lazy, but that seems liek a LOT of miles. Please make sure you don't push too hard. :grouphug:

Dave-there are times after my LR's that I just cannot get warm. And I live in AL and a VERY hot natured person. I guess it just has something to do with the LR?

Wendy-you're words of wisdom brought tears to my eyes. You are so right! And, yes we will remind you of them next week when you need the encouragement :teeth:

Judy & Carrie-half of my conversations with my mom (who at least has met some of you now) has to do with you guys. I refer to you as my online training group when talking to "outsiders" It seems to get the least amount of odd stares  I have also become friends with someone from the DISboards that lives in my town and goes to my church. Guess how it looks when I explain how we met  Usually when people think of meeting people on the internet they think of online predators & dont understand how we can trust each other so much and be such great friends & actually involved somehow in each others lives. Its such a wonderful thing but also nearly impossible to explain to "others" . I've decided the harder I try to explain the crazier I look. :grouphug:

Kelly-If you cant find that bracelet , Mel may have some more you can get from her. She ordered a bunch.

Jen-Great job for getting those steps in. DH is right, you did it! :thumbsup2

I have been so over trying to do everything (like everyone else here) that I decided to take the day off from EVERYTHING! I didnt clean anything, I didnt do any of my school stuff I need to do. I went shopping & to lunch with my best friend! Boy did I need that. Sometimes training & other stuff just needs to take a back seat for a day. I'm glad I did it, & will be back at it tomorrow.

Carrie-Awesome mail day!

Tiff - That's awesome. Time with a friend is the best rejuvenator in the world!!!

BTW - Before March of 2004, I would have told you that you were nuts if you told me I'd have internet friends now. So, I can't really blame those people who give me funny looks! :teeth:

Quick drive by for me ( the paperwork is piled on my desk);

Carrie: So are the Kayanos only for small to mid frame runners. If so, that's definitely not me!

Dave: After last year's Goofy, I soaked in the whirlpool tub of cold water. I had the foil wrap they gave out at the finish line wrapped around my shoulders while sitting in the tub. It was co-o-ld.
That's one part of race weekend I'm not looking forward to.

Got to the gym this morning and did 30 minutes on the exercise bike (18mph pace) and then did some lower body weight work.

Terri
