Wk of Oct 22--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Judy - I'm still packetless. We'll have kevin and mel do the packet dance for us. for some reason that worked for me last year!!!!. You could write that saying on your water bottle then you would remember to stay hydrated and you won't be walking around all week at the parks w/ a sharpie tatoo!! :rotfl2:

Judy -- My screen saver on my computer is now a marquee that reads "MARATHON -- The Pain is Temporary. The Pride is Forever. . . " Hoping it keeps me motivated.

The blisters are gone from my 12 mile LR in the brooks ariels. I called roadrunnersports yesterday and for the first time ever had an uninformed and unhelpful rep. So, I asked her to go talk to the guy I spoke with last time and to tell him about the location and shape of my blisters and ask for advice. He said the ariels are too firm for my feet and too heavy and I should try the Nike Equalon or the ASICS Evolution. Does anyone here wear either of those and have any feedback for me?

Am I the only one who has received their packet so far? That is so bizarre to me. Any chance they are being generated/mailed alphabetically by first name and my "C" comes before anyone else's first initial? :confused3

Cam - I have the Gel Evolutions. Is that the same? :confused3 Those were the first ones I bought, alas, not in wide. However, I do/did love them. They are just too narrow across the ball of my foot. Which is too bad. I wish they fit.

Judy -- I think that is them. I will try them in wide and if they don't come in wide I may try men's. I have no time right now to get to the running store to try these various shoes on and I feel like time is running out. I obviously need to make time to deal with these issues. UGH!

I received my packet yesterday, so apparently it's not alphabetic since an "S" got his.

Cam I hope you are well. You've come soooooooo far.

I was able to do 12 pretty effortlessly on Sunday, and then yesterday I was really strong in the weight room and on the bike. I feel like I'm 2/3 of the way to being ready for January 7. With 75 days to go it's a comforting feeling.

Craig

Hey all. I mustered out a measly 30 minutes on the treadmill yesterday afternoon. My back is now aching like it was a couple weeks ago... and I have a race on Saturday, my longest ever... 10K. Very nervous because I am super slow!

I was home yesterday afternoon with a sick child. She started on Saturday with Pink Eye, Sunday night and Monday morning with a crouper cough, then I get her Monday after noon (DH was home with her in the morning)... she throws up 4 times and has a fever. My luck!! I had to pick the other DD up at school, so I took her with me... she vomitted twice in the car. Oh it was not a fun afternoon. So my treadmill run sucked big time, but like I have said before... at least I made the attempt.

Cam/Judy - I love my Asics Nimbus and they seem wide at the ball (at least to me they do). I have med-high arches tho.

OK, work is busting my bum today and likely will the rest of the week... Ughhh....

Craig -- I am thinking my theory may be playing out -- 2 "C's" (first name) have gotten their packets. Anyone else?

Thanks for the good wishes. Hope to know more tonight. Howard, of course, wants to jump right on it with a Holter monitor (sp?) and all the details and I'd rather completely ignore it. If it weren't for the breathlessness I'd wait until mid-January to let any doctor get anywhere near me, but I nearly blacked out Saturday night and I just can't be stupid about this.

BTW, so glad you did 12 this weekend too -- it makes me feel so good knowing we are all facing those same challenging distances each week. Misery loves company (when they are stonkers) and it's great to celebrate together (when they aren't stonkers).

Hi, Helen! So glad you are doing well. Good luck on your half! :goodvibes:

Christa -- your furbaby is adorable. How patient of him to sit still in those clothes. :lovestruc I can't believe he can run those distances on his short little legs. Guess I have to look for a new excuse, huh?

This "C" didn't get hers. :(

Cam - Please get your heart checked ASAP. You're scaring me!!!!!

Jne - Hope everybody's doing better soon!

Judy - Let us know hwen you hear about Misty!

Craig - You're 2/3 ready adn we're only about 1/2 way. Way to go!!!

Changed runs from Monday/Wed to Tue/THursday, as I got home last night. Getting near peak, as we're up to 60 minute Modays. (I dreaded this last year.) Scary, that it doesn't seem too bad this year. Only 4 LLRs to go!!! :cool1:

No packet here, but I'm an "S" with an "M" for last name :confused3

Just back from 8 miles on the TM mostly .5% grade some 1% total time 1:31 avg pace 11:23

Sunny

so much for my theory.
how about alphabetically by state.
Nope, that doesn't explain why Howard didn't get his.
I'm clueless. :confused3

Cam - Me and BIL are both "C's" too...we have not gotten ours yet.....
OH PACKET DANCE..WORK FOR ME TODAY!
I put in everything that danced..I think..so maybe it will work...I added the rock band for good measure.
 :dancer: :rockband: party: :jumping1: :jumping3: :jumping2: :dumbo: :simba: :figment: :stitch: :goofy: :maleficen :sulley: :hmghost: :tigger: :ccat: :donald: :mickeyjum :dogdance: :dance3: :cool1: :Pinkbounc :yay:
Sunny - I found that I felt that way the 2nd time I did WDW...same old...same old....But remember, no 2 marathons are ever the same...This will be a totally different race, and you will be more knowageable of the course.

Swam 40 min today and have dance rehearsal tonight, so I think I will get my cardio in for the day.

I have questions. On the morning of the marathon, or half at WDW....

I know this is way too far in advance, but what do you think you might have for dinner the night before the race? And what about breakfast? And at what time would you eat if we have to be in the corrals at 5:00am? Do you bring a snack to have in the corral?

Do you guys bring something to sit on, or just stand in the corral? How long are we in there?

Can we throw clothes away on the course?

Oh and what time do you plan on setting the alarm for?

Ok thats it for the moment. I'm sitting here staring at my printout of the course that I have taped to the wall next to my computer. It only LOOKS like I'm hard at work. I'm actually thinking of these race things. :teeth:

Not sure. I did Ohana last year. Want higer carb this year.

Snicker energy bar 1.5 hours pre-race. Powerade and another energy bar 1 hour out. Yes, I eat iin the corral.

I was in there ~1.5? hours. It's a road, so I didn't need somethign to sit on, would have if it was wet. Once it starts to load up, though, sitting was not a great option.

Can we throw clothes away on the course?
Yes, please make sure it's off the road. I know a guy who was hurt badly last year when he stepped on clothign and it covered a hole.

Oh and what time do you plan on setting the alarm for?
I think it was 2:45 last year. Left for bus at 3:30 HTH!

lol Judy. Just think when it gets closer. Yeah, nothing but mrarathon fills your thoughts. ;)

Oh thank you! Excellent! :thumbsup2

I think I'm that way already! It doesn't help that the excitement of the NYC marathon is starting up here. Gives me a bit of a head start!

I already have my "staging" area for packing. I already have all of Cam's "suggested things to bring" lists. I'm already "saving" clothes to pack. :rotfl:

I also noticed I'm being very careful. I wouldn't get on an ATV the other night because I am petrified of getting hurt right now. I wouldn't run in the grass for fear of twisting an ankle.

OMG THERE WILL BE NO LIVING WITH ME IN DECEMBER!!!!!

Just my opinions/experiences, YMMV---

- Last year, without an ADR, I ended up at Lotus Blossom Cafe the night before the Marathon for Lo Mein (after walking all over Epcot looking for something to eat and nothing sounding good--- nerves, I think.) It worked out fine. This year, doing Goofy, I don't know what I'm doing (but probably should think about it, huh?)
- Breakfast: In the room at 3am-- a banana, a bottle of water and a bagel with cream cheese.
- I had a gel 20 minutes before the start in the corrals as well.
- I wouldn't bring anything to sit on, but I did sit on the ground for quite a while in the corrals. Unless it were wet, it's just eextra stuff you have to worry about. (I will say, though, 35 degree asphalt is not all that comfortable.)
- Yes, you can throw away clothes on the course. They are donated to charity. One caveat, if you cover up your number by layering over it, it'll be much more difficult to find your race pictures. (OK, only maybe I worry about that. :teeth: )
- Last year, I set the alarm for 2:53am-- don't ask me how I remember. This year I'll probably do it closer to 2:30am. I felt a bit rushed getting ready and that's not a great way to start the morning.

To everyone else, I promise to catch up later. I had a LONG weekend and am having a pretty cruddy week so far.... ugh! :guilty:

Kevin :earsboy:

Hello, teammates...
Cam, A and B in FL are packetless :sad2:

Sunny, you are sounding sooooo much better!! Now, :duck: ! That was directed at you in love and kindness....Remember the one legged pelican??!!! Give yourself a break and REJOICE in each and every footfall on the course you make!!! Go back and read the paper by those guys who wrote about the link between that medicine and athletes and UNDERLINE that there were some who would NEVER be able to participate in their sport again. We are so thrilled that you are able to get back out there, friend!! We were very, very concerned there for a while. ::yes::

Dave, YEA!!!! :woohoo: and standing around for 2 hours before the start will get you ready for WDW, for sure!! Have fun with your plans for the weekend!!

Jodi The Hartford Half sounds beautiful! You did such a great job!! :cheer2:

Paul Way to go on your half!! :thumbsup2

Helen and MelR, Show us the pictures!! We want pictures!! :dance3:

Jackie pixiedust: pixiedust: for you and your furbaby, as Cam says!!

Amy , how's the Achilles tendon?

Cecilia, What an AWESOME job on your half!! To battle outside elements as well as "inside" elements is just :worship: !!

Judy pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: for this week with Mist and the trial. How are those Kayanos? :)

We've been getting our steps in. DH is now at an 11 min mile with his W/R's!! He'll have to wait an hour for me to cross the finish line in January!! I think I'm going to have to give up the W/R schedule for me until I lose some more weight.
Here's a laugh for you. I was talking with my oldest son(30) about RftT, and how it was our first time visiting WDW in September to see the fall decorations up. I told him that DH and I were going back down in a couple of weeks. He said, "Oh? What will it be this time? Another 6 miler or a 10 miler?" :rotfl2: Poor child, thinks the only time we go to WDW is for a race!!!

Thank you so much, Ann :grouphug: You made my day :cloud9:

Sunny

Anne - lol. Too cute! That seems to be true fr me now. Only go for marathon. WOrking on that, though. ;)

Kevin - I had 2 sets of safety pins. One on my long sleeve and one on my sleeveless. Wore my # low so that my sweatshirt and Tyvek did not cove r#. I don't think you're teh only one who worries baout getting your pics. ;) Oh, and then I went through teh 33,000 orphans just to be sure. ;) Hope your week gets better!

Judy - lol. You've got it bad! I can identify with it, though. I'm already scared to death about injuring myself and this is not my first one.

Ewww...It's pouring and 45 degrees outside. Yuck. Kind of wish I had a TM now.

Oh silly, Kevin - we all worry about covering up our numbers & not getting our pics! :rotfl: What is the race for, besides the pics?! :lmao:

Judy - Chad has always brought an old sweatsuit with him to throw away. A couple years ago, we got really smart. Target had Christmas fleece throw blankets 90% off in early January. I think they ended being $.99. Anywho, we bought at least a dozen for gifts for the next year. We never ended up giving them away, so he brings them to WDW to keep warm before the race. I had one with me at DL, in fact!

Also, if Chad doesn't have anything he deems worthy of throwing away (have I mentioned what a pack rat he is?) - we've bought him a cheap hanes sweatsuit at Sam's Club just for this purpose.

As for training, well, I didn't xt yesterday. But today is my scheduled rest day, so I was going to swap. I cannot even explain the depth of my sleep deprivation right now. I am going to take a nap before hitting the Y later, but I am afraid I will not get up. (I am absolutely horrible when being woken up!) Keep your fingers crossed I manage to drag my sorry behind out of bed.

Cam - please let us know what the doctors say tonight. I am worried about you! pixiedust:
