Wk of Nov 19--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Forget chocolate milk, yesterday i did the chicken fried steak, sweet potato fries and veggies. Yum.

I guess all my wisdom about nutrition is out the window. The munchies are catching up w/ me. I remember last year after the 20 I had some post about a big mac, milkshake and fries.

I'm on a roll today!! They finally posted pics from our October adventure race. I don't know if you guys remember, but I have said that I always look like such a weenie in the hike-a-bike pics!! I've been really wanting a really tough looking hike-a-bike pic from one of the races. Well...... here is my h-a-b pic from this year. REAL TOUGH!! You can actually see me in the background :teeth: Phil looks really good (and tough) w/ my bike and his :rotfl2:

Hey all... my back is not in pain today. I am happy that I only did an hour yesterday instead of the 1 1/2 hours I should have. I will still take it light this week and do every other day. I am trying to turn my focus away from the pain and work past it. But I also think the extra stretching is helping!!

Congrats to all the 16 milers. WOW, I am impressed. I think I will be 1/2 marathon kind of girl. I just don't think I get make it through a full. And the training is just so much more intense!! CONGRATS TO ALL OF YOU!!!

Alright, I promised I would catch up so here you go....

Mel - I love that WISH ornament!! I am going to have to go to Target and see if I can find one for my tree this year!! Every year everyone in the family picks one new ornament for the tree and if I can find it this will definately be mine!!

Matt - Congrats!!

Susie - Here's a WOW for you!! You oughtta be so proud of yourself!!

Amy - Ya know, I have noticed after my long runs I have more pain in my back too. After my 20 miler 3 weeks ago I spent the entire day with my back cramping. And I thought my legs would be killing me after these distances.

Lily - I am so sorry DS wasn't feeling well. Mine had to come home early from school this week because he started running a fever, and still hasn't gotten rid of the cough he has had. I hope he feels better soon (Mine and Yours)

Goofyguy - What you did was wonderful, and I am sure that there are plenty of people very thankful for what you did. Especially that childs parents!!

Dave - About your pace.... I was doing a 7R/1W for a while, but attempted a R4/W1 and found that my pace stays about the same and it is just soooo much easier. I know that's my strategy for WDW.

Bekah - Don't stress too much about the 26... you can do it. Now, I have never run a marathon (or any race since high school for that matter) but I can only imagine how stoked we are all going to be to actually be running our race at WDW!! The excitement alone will help everyone finish!! Also there will be plenty of WISHers around to help cheer you on!!

Christa - You have so much going on. I truly don't know how you can do it all. Between being Mommy, your theatre, your work, and the way you run like a mad woman you are truly an inspiration. I hope that things in your life calm down enough that you can get over your tummy problems.

Well, overall I still feel pretty good. My right knee was hurting a bit yesterday, but is much better today. The only other pain I have had is in my lower legs, and it almost feels like EVERY single muscle in my lower legs are tight. Once I walk around a few minutes it feels much better. Unfortunately, I think I took my 22 miler a bit faster than I had intended to. 10mpm is my planned race pace, and definately shouldn't have been my long run pace. My stomach felt really bad all day Saturday, I really couldn't stomach eating much, I tried but just felt too sick. Thankfully yesterday I woke up feeling fine!! I am also feeling really thankful that I have a few "easier" weeks until my 24!!

So, I am having stress about having my longest run only be 20 and then three weeks later, doing 26. This works, right? !

Bekah,

Like everyone else is saying, don't worry about the extra distance on marathon morning. I heard this a thousand times from everyone, too, before last year's marathon, but I didn't really realize what that meant until race day. Just like someone said at the expo last year (I think it may have been John Bingham), "The training is the hard part, the race is just the icing on the cake."
There is so much going on around you that the first miles just fly by, and after the halfway point, your training will kick in and carry you through to the finish. It really is an amazing experience.

Steve

Jen - Actually, it's not that bad training for the full. The weekedays are close, we add an extra run roughly every other week. yes, SLRs are double, but look at week 1 for teh full rigth now. You are well beyond it.

I've read through, but don't have timet to comment right now...

Just the training facts:

Saturday was a 10 miler with Paul with an avg pace of 14:30 but we did take a leisurely coffe break :surfweb: So at least he's had two training runs now!

Sunday was my 18 miler. My performance was much better than last week and no pain (either runs). I averaged 12:56 as opposed to last week's 14:20 :woohoo: I'm convinced it has to do with my new perspective on pain.

Sunny

YAY, Sunny!

So, who is missing around here? Helen? Sara? Rhonda? Kim? Beth? Craig? Claire? Stephanie? Nancy? . . . We miss you guys! How are you all doing?

OMG! So psyched. Proud mom moment here! DS13 just got word that he made all-state choir! Two of his closest friends who auditioned also made it, so they are going to have an awesome time. Andrew and 1 of the boys who made it were among the 5 boy ensemble that sang "The National Anthem" on tv a couple of months ago. I am so happy for DS. He wanted this so badly and worked hard to prepare for it. Of course, my chance of persuading him to head to med school instead of Broadway become slimmer and slimmer with every wonderful performance or successful audition. :goodvibes:

WOW! That's FAB-U-LOUS! :thumbsup2 :cheer2: :woohoo: And you can tell him Aunt Judy said so too! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :woohoo: :thumbsup2 :cool1: :dance3: :yay:  :cool1:  :bounce: :Pinkbounc :dance3: :yay:

Yay for Cam & Howard's DS!!!!!

Congrats Proud Mom Cam! Good news. How about convincing DS to be a singing doctor? Multi-tasking?

Sunny great news and you got Paul to go too! Whoot whoot!

Dana, sounds like you are doing very well with your training! Great news. Hope you continue to stay healthy now.

Bekah, you will do fine.

Cam and Judy, Whoa, you both have increased you pace so well I am proud of you! You are really doing a great job of it. Be careful to not overstress as the miles increase.

MelR that is a great pic of Phil. He is the machine. Chicken fried steak, sweet potato fries and veggies! Well, I don't know if it beats the Burger King burger, fries and milkshake.

A tid bit of advice or woudl it be better to say a tad of advice? Hmmm, oh, yes for those doing the training for your full following MfM or whatever schedule that calls for that 20 miler to be the longest LR. I followed MfM and changed that last LR to 22. Yeah, I fell to the pressure. Everyone else was doing 22 that weekend so I figured, why not. I put those 2 extra miles on and was really glad I did. I put in the steps, found out I could get to those 22 miles and I KNEW that I could do the rest if I had to crawl. (I had never gone that many miles in a row in my life.) You might consider going 22 instead of 20 that weekend. It helped me mentally, it might help you. It is quite mental as these miles increase for sure.

We are getting a good move on team! This is getting good. I thank you all for your support as we get closer to our finish line. Team cheer time:

Thunder, thunder, thunderation!
We're the WISH group delegation.
When we move with determination,
We create a Great! sensation!

From past experience, I'm a firm believer in not changing anything the day before/day of a run. So of courseI must have lost my mind on Friday...I went bowling for the first time in 5 years. So today, I finally realized the aches in my shoulder, wrist and left side of bum was more from bowling than the Sat LR. What a doof - won't do that again.

Bekah - as our veterans keep reminding me...one step at a time and you will finish. And always remember we are in this together - you are not alone!

CAM - As someone just told me, don't look that far ahead. 1 day - 1k @ a time. I know you can make it!

Carrie - great new quote in sig. Very appropriate as we all seem to be needing just those type words of wisdom.

CJ - Fishers, IN
Keep moving foward!

Hmmm... I have been reading everything and planning my responses, but let's see what I can actually remember...

Cam - YEA for DS!!!!! Taking students to all-state is actually one of the big things I miss about not teaching chorus now. He will have a GREAT time!!!

Congrats on all the long runs!!! You are doing great!!! The reward for all your training is coming SOON! :cool1: And for those of you doing them on the dreadmill... :worship:

I think Bekah asked about the 20 mile long run - I got to 20 miles last year, and did fine at the marathon. I will admit that I started exclusively walking at the 22 mile mark, but I had my sweeper times in my pocket (thanks to DH :cloud9: ), and I knew I wouldn't get caught. The plans work, and you will be great!!! :thumbsup2

Congrats to all our racers, too!!! Matt - YEA on your sub-2!!! and GoofyGuy - You truly are a hero!!! There will be other chances to make your time goal, and I am so grateful for people like you on the course! :goodvibes

Judy - Mist is beautiful!!! Billy (DS) got so excited when he saw her picture! Still praying for you all and the trial!

Dave - Yea for telling DW! Sorry it didn't happen the way you planned, but it sounds like she is really excited - and I can't wait to hear how the princesses react! :teeth:

We do have some more news to share with our WISH family! We had the big ultrasound today, and Billy is going to have a...

BABY BROTHER!!!! :earsboy:

The baby looks great and is very active - he will definitely be a runner! ;) Yea!!! I am still trying to walk/waddle periodically. I will definitely be running with you all again next January. The moms may appreciate this - I tried to put my running shoes on Saturday morning. I managed to get them on, but trying to get down there to tie them... :lmao: It was rather comical to say the least! I think I'm wearing flip-flops for a while! :teeth:

Anyway, great job to everyone!!! You can do this!!! You will have lots of support along the course, too! Yea for the scream team! :woohoo:

Happy training!

--Lynnda

Yea Andrew!!!!! Now I have someone I can say "I knew him when...." when he's a famous Broadway star singing Dr. :teeth:

And great job Cam on your 16 miler! You flew! :thumbsup2

Lynnda-Congrats! I have 2 boys and you will save a bundle on clothes! They dont have to have matching ribbons, socks, shoes with every outfit like girls. (I tried but DH wont let me ;) )

Judy-WTG on your 8 miles  You were flying too!!!

Kelly- I have that problem with the souls of my feet too. I have started putting Bodyglide on them before my LR's and that helps but on the really LRs I still have that problem (of course shopping in boots the day before also contributes to the problem  )

Sunny- great job!!! I am so glad you are able to get out there again. Hope you continue to feel better.

Have a great day everyone! Keep up the good training :thumbsup2

FYI - not everyone did 22 instead of their 20-miler. We were just fine with 20. Every jump in mileage we took gave us confidence that the plan works. So, when we made 20, we really knew. If you really are still worried the weekend you are schedule fro 20, you could up it for comfort, but I really don't think you need to.

Congratulations Bill and Lynnda!!!!

 Rant coming. I am so ticked. NWA canceled our flight to MCO yesterday. Now, instead of arriving at 7 on Friday night, we get there at 9:58. Grrrr... So much for gettign sleep before going to cheer for the half.

WOW Cam! Congrats on the 16 miler ON THE DREADMIL! and to DS...That is AWESOME! I did Honors choir and all state in high school... :thumbsup2

Lynnda - Congrats! WOW a baby boy!

I did not post about my workout yesterday. I went to my church gym to run it. I told the girl that I was getting ready to tear up one of the treadmills in the WO room...I don't think she understood. :confused3 Anyway...I went in and did 5 miles on 7. Then I did weights. Someone asked if I was starting to train for another marathon. I just laughed and said yeah you could say that. :rotfl2:

FYI - not everyone did 22 instead of their 20-miler.
THis is true..I did 24 for my longest LR and also did the Charlotte marathon about a month out. This year, I am taking DH (who has run 2 WDW marathons) and BIL (this is his 1st) to 22. I may go only to 20 though. But I did run a marathon in October.

Christa, I've never been to a church that had a w/out room....very cool. :thumbsup2

Cam - Checking in  . I am swamped and trying to take care of business before I'm off to Orlando for two weeks in two days :confused3 . I am just overwhelmed right now.

Congrats on the 16 miles!! :cheer2: Great pace improvement to boot  Congrats to Andrew :cool1:

Lynnda - Congrats to you and your family on the newest miracle!! :thumbsup2

Sunny - So comforting to hear you are improving and pain-free. :cheer2: The new perspective sounds like it's working out well. :cool1:

Lily - Thanks for the cheer. My DH groans whenever I say it at home. :rotfl2:

Training continues to go well. 18 miles this past Sunday. I am worried about finding a 20 mile route in Orlando to run while I'm away. I will have my Garmin, so I'll work something out. I hope the weather cooperates.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my WISH family. Whenever I count my blessings, you guys are right up there. :grouphug:

I am outta here on Thansgiving and not back until 12/5. I will try to check in remotely while I am on vacation.

Best of luck to all with training and LR's as we move into the home stretch.

Good morning all. :sunny:

Today I "slogged" on the TM for 30 min at a 13 min pace. Then I hopped on the stationary bike for a while. My left hip is really killing me. It used to hurt a bit if I had been sitting too long. It started to hurt on mile 6 six last Saturday and hasn't let up since.

I'm getting old.... :sad2:

Lily - Oh thank you! I was thinking I should probably work on my pace a little to allow for the crowd. But then again, I REALLY don't want to blow it by getting hurt.

CJ
- Bowling is dangerous. :lmao: I do it about once a decade and I always pull something!

Lynnda - Oh that's fabulous! :teeth: How exciting for you guys! Thank you for the well wishes for Mist. I haven't had an update on the trial and its making me nervous.

Where's Jodi? :confused3

Oh Carrie - That stinks! Grrrr! :furious:

Sara - Have a great time!
