Wk of May 6--WISH Walking/Running Club

Dona - Welcome!!!!! What a wonderful way to celebrate your health!!! My dad is a colon cancer survivor. He had 6 months of chemo, but it seemed like a lifetime fro he and my mom. I cannot imagine a year of chemo and havign small children to boot! You have already had a marathon. Just like chemo, take it one step at a time and you will get there! We are more than happy to be a source of encouragement and an outlet to vent!

Jackie - This is my first day back. trying to ease into this work thing gradually. ;)

Dona-Welcome! What a wonderful way to celebrate your life, and being cancer-free!:thumbsup2 Believe me you can come here and talk running any time of day--and someone is bound to be around! Hope to "hear" more from you soon!

Carrie--Guess the whole zebra comment came out wrong--your butt doesn't look big period--not that I was checking you out or anything--don't want anyone here getting the wrong idea!;) And, alas, no we won't be in Chicago--for what reason I'm not sure. DH's sis lives in Naperville--just bought a 3 bed. townhouse for goodness sakes--but he's dead set on running this silly marathon in Sept. I'm only going along with it, b/c if I finish I get free shoes! What woman can turn down free shoes???

Stephanie - Sorry, should have added more ;) ;) ;) 's. I knew you did not mean it that way. I just don't take compliments well. (And I have gained a lot since marathon.) Is that marathon the one in Appleton? I could not remember if I actually asked you if you were doing it.

Welcome Dona! What a heartwarming story! The Disney Marathon, for me, was like no other experience.

What made it even more special was the amazing love, support given by all the WISHers on this board! Remarkably, running the actual race was just a small part of the entire experience.... Seeing everyone out there and cheering each other on was what I will remember most.

So.. come on in... you will find much support, advice and friendship here!

Kathy

Good afternoon!

Just drving through.

Ran 2.75 miles last night and managed to aggravate my foot injury. It's bad enough now that I made an appointment to see the doc.

Departing for Mickey's house in the morning. Taking the DW for Mother's Day weekend. Hopefully I'll get some time to check in and see what's happening.

Everyone - Take care.

To the sick and injured - Get well.

To our new teammates - :welcome:

:)

Donna Welcome - and I have to say CONGRATULATIONS - you have been through the ringer, and you didnt let it stop you!!! :cool1: Good for you!! (I love the smilies, just click and poof they appear in your post!! Same for bold, over on the right once you hit reply that is, click on B and in your text the "code" appears, just type inside it - same for color - the A and down arrow will give those choices, then sizes, just click, choose click on your choice and it :wizard: magically appears in your box, and typ inside the [ ] in side these thingys [/]

I am technically challenged!! :hippie:

I'm working on working up to my first half marathon '08 - Disney is a great incentive for me!! I started on the couch-to-5K running program - on the main WISH board -

Everyone here is encouraging, but I do feel inadequete (my problem, not the posters here!) I was debating on starting a journal page to help record my journey... but I'm not good at consistency - the least I do is come here, and I can only come here if I stay with the program - 3 -5 days a week "wogging" (jog/walk)

Mike/Optimator- I never congratulated you for completing your first full marathon. Wow, 3:40 is an amazing time for your first marathon. That would be a Boston Qualifying time for me. Congratulations. We're all very proud of you.

Dave - You made my heart skip a beat there for a minute since I seem to think at 42 I'm at least a couple years older than you.

So, unless you're 55 or .... a woman.... !?! Krista, Steve - so did Dave leave the seat up or down after using the bathroom?

Dona -- :welcome: Your story is so inspiring and it sounds to me like you can do anything you set your mind to. What an awesome goal to take your family to WDW to watch you accomplish something so life-altering. And just think of the example you are setting for your children and the message you are sending! :thumbsup2

Be sure to stick around here. We all LOVE to talk about walking/running & the impact is has on our lives and the impact our lives have on our walking/running. There is no better place to be among friends than here in the hearts and care of the WISH team. And if you come to the conclusion somewhere over the next 8 months that these people are just absolutely amazing, wait until you meet them in person. The people here changed my life -- literally. I am profoundly grateful for the gift of friendship I have found here and I am sure you will be, too. Really looking forward to sharing your journey!

Dona: welcome to the group! What an inspiration you are to everyone! I'm not sick.....just old and out of shape.....and I am planning to complete my first full marathon in '08 also. It will be an honor to run/walk/whatever with you on our team.

:welcome: Dona! Thanks for sharing your story! Glad to have you along for the ride!

Vic...sorry to hear about your foot. I can totally relate!

eeyore...careful...if you stick with the program, you could become hopelessly addicted like the rest of us. I just realized, I'll have 5 medals to display at the end of this year.

Carrie...I thought the zebra skirt looked cute on you!

Krista...:lmao: poor Barry Gibb. He didn't look too good either, almost like he was taking steroids. I've been kinda bored with this season of AI.

Cam...looks like we're going to be spending a lot of time together this year. We seem to have the same race icons in our siggie :goodvibes

Best of luck to the full marathon 4 hour pace group! Anyone for a 5:30 to 6 hour group?

I promised myself I would take this week off after the Minnie to try and let my foot heal. I did have a rest day on Mon, but umm...might have accidentally did an easy 30 min on the TM today. My foot's really not been happy...I may have another visit to the pod in my future. Or maybe I should just try a couple new pairs of shoes :thumbsup2

I'm gonna throw this out there in a separate post because I want to make sure everyone sees it.

This is something I've been thinking about for awhile and some things happened this weekend at the Minnie that solidified for me.

I got several comments on our shirts during the race and one person asked me what charity we run for. We were a significant presence at the Minnie...probably the largest, most visible group there.

We have grown. There are well over 100 members on the list, though not all are active. We are a 'real' running/walking club that spans the nation and a couple of other countries (is Helen back yet?). I believe we have something very special and I'm wondering how it will continue to evolve.

I like the informal organization we have. I like the welcoming attitude and the spirit of support in every single member. I think it's really cool that we're expanding out to meet at non-Disney races.

In moments of ambition, I wonder if we could do more. Sunny brought up supporting a charity last year. I still think that's a fabulous idea. I like the Team N Training model, but there are a few things that have kept me from participating that I would do differently (the minimum donation is one). I love how they have coaches for new members. I thought Colleen's pace group idea was fabulous and think it would be really cool if we continue and maybe have some folks that would do the half as a coach/pacer for our new runners/walkers.

I also thought Carrie's comment about inviting the DLF lady to be a WISH team member was pretty cool. I was thinking it would be neat to give one of our shirts to the DLF finisher at some of the races or maybe carry some business type cards with our team 'motto' and an invitation to the DIS.

I would also be very content not fixing anything that isn't broken. I think the team has evolved into something pretty special on its own and I wouldn't want to change that. If y'all feel leaving things alone and letting nature take its course is best, that would be cool too.

So...after all that...my question to all of you...what do you want from your WISH team?

Dona - First of all, welcome to Team WISH! This is a great place to come to share, get motivated, motivate others in return, and make new friends. Good luck with your traning for the full in 2008! Secondly, congratulations on the all clear colonoscopy...I hope it was a first in a long trend. If the info in your post was the amount you felt you needed to share, then it was the perfect amount. Again, welcome to the Team! Warning, WISH gear can get addicting.:goodvibes
Shan - Sorry to hear about your gasoline experience. Hopefully you will be able to get the smell out of your fav outfit. Thankfully it didn't get into your eyes or mouth and cause some health concerns. And you still went out for your run, great dedication. Don't worry about the scale. You will find out more about the effectiveness of your efforts by the way you feel!
Sunny - :grouphug: & pixiedust: to help you get through this painful and difficult time.
Dave - Awesome pics from the Flying Pig! That pizza from Buca di Beppa looks awesome! But not as awesome as your time! Great job to both you and Steve!
HM - Welcome back. I hope you are able to get through this painful time in your life and find the peace you need to cope with your loss.:grouphug:
Denny - I love the pics you took during the Flying Pig weekend! How did you get such still phots while on the course? My pics on the course during the WDW 1/2 are blurry and out of focus (and no I didn't stop by Germany for a few Becks before hand either).
Cindy - Ohh ouch...hopefully it's not serious and you back on the road in no time (while not pushing it).
Steve & Krista - Have a great time at WDW!!!:cool1:
eeyore45 - Strong work on your run. Tell your negative voice that's it's got no choice, it's coming with whether it likes it or not!:thumbsup2
Christa - Great job on the trails and the treadmill! WTG!!!
Laurie - How'd your team end up doing (?)....and hockey would definitely qualify as XT!!
Stephanie - Awesome job at Minnie! Glad to hear you had a great time, although it sounded very exhausting!
Jen - Good luck next week! Tear it up! The course, not your plantar fascia. Hope your new orthotics work out well for you!
disnutt - Great job on the TM! You'll break 4:30 in a full before you know it!
Carrie - Fantastic job at Minnie! I'm always wishing I was still at WDW. Like right now, I can close my eyes and hear the screams from Tower of Terror...ahhhh heaven.
Cam - Loved the Race/Trip report! The pictures were great! You all had smiles on 24/7. 100 pushups and 100 crunches on a balance ball?:worship: WOW!
TXAng - Don't get too buried at work!
Big Vic - My DW just smacked me for not taking her to WDW for Mothers Day...thanks. Hopefully your foot gets to feeling better.
Mel - Display those medals with pride...you've earned them!

Training:
My Monday 2 miler turned into a 3 miler...felt really good too. XT with the recumbent on Tuesday (man that seat is really comfy). Today, my DW and I went on a 2 mile walk/run, then a 2 mile walk. She started MFM walk/run 1/2 marathon plan this week and we did 8 cycles of walk 3 run 1, then walked some more because it was such a beautiful day (that and we did not turn around and head back after 4 cycles). I'm starting my MFM training next week as the full I am planning is late September. I'm gonna plan on the CDC as a training wog.

Happy Training!

Well, that's not very nice. :rotfl: No flowers for her! ;)

My foot is going to love walking the parks for three days. :rolleyes1 :lmao:

My first answer is to leave as it is.

However, I'm going to have to chew on it for a bit. popcorn::

Dona - All I can say is WOW! You have already been through a marathon! How strong you must be. And a big :cool1:  :cool1:  for your great results! Post often and we will talk running with you! I totally bore everyone with all my running talk, so it is nice to have buddies that understand.

Everyone here is encouraging, but I do feel inadequete (my problem, not the posters here!) GIRL! Don't make me come over there and get you!;) ;) ;) ;) You are totallly adequete! I am so excited about watching how your journey evolves. I strongly recomend starting a journal. You can do it with paper instead of online. If it is online, you don't have to make it a stresser...just post when you feel the need. Then you can look back at how far you have come.

Biked today on the dreadmill of bikes (AKA Stationry bike :scared1:). Did 30 min, on the xcountry course but it went off b/4 I could see how many miles. Then I did weights......abs still sore from yesterdays ab work on the big ball thingy...that IS a technical name.:rotfl:

HM - Lots of :grouphug: and :wizard: to you this mothers day! My BFF goes through the same thing every year...she lost her mom. I will send up a prayer for you on that day.

Vic - Lots of :wizard: for your foot!

QUESTION?!?!?!
I want to run the Grandfather Mountain Marathon in July...Hey, there is only 1 hill.:lmao: Anywho, I should be doing an 18 mile run this weekend, but haven't reworked up to that far. I did run 16 in March...IN MARCH! AHHH! I ran 10 Friday and can easily run 13 -14 miles....well you guys know the mileage I have been doing.....The question is, what should I attempt for my LR this weekend? Is 16 too much? As you know, my plans usually take me up to 24, but I will (most likely) only go to 20 this time....hey it is my 7th marathon, I can cut back!:rotfl:

Just a really quick drive-by post!

We WON our game last night!!!!! So, yes, we are the champions!! It was pretty cool, my team has been playing together for the last couple of years and this was our first league championship!! When we first started we were not very good, and now we have gotten so much better!! So, even though it was only a small league at a local rink, it was still pretty exciting!!!

Well, I hope to get back to some training this week. My foot has been a little sore for some reason the last few days, so I will have to keep an eye on that.

Hope everyone had a great day!! I will try to catch up with everyone tomorrow!!

Dave - You made my heart skip a beat there for a minute since I seem to think at 42 I'm at least a couple years older than you.

So, unless you're 55 or .... a woman.... !?! Krista, Steve - so did Dave leave the seat up or down after using the bathroom?
Ooops, sorry, I meant 3:20, not 3:40.

For the first time in 4 weeks I'm to workout with my trainer in the morning. That should feel really good unless she feels guilty about blowing me off then she'll be merciless!

Now that the Minnie is over, I'm kinda at loose ends. Not sure what to do now. I'm sort of training for the Leadville Heavy Half Marathon but I'm walking it, not running. How does one choke off the oxygen during training to simulate training at high altitude? Hahahahhaha.

I do hope everyone is having a great week training. For those with injuries, I hope things heal quickly. For those with illnesses, I hope you you get better soon.

What is everyone's goal for the ToT race?
