HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!!
Mel: Thanks for pointing out the new stickies. And a big thank you to
Bill! Wow, you were a wild woman this weekend, going all minimal with the 5 miler. Have you ever noticed how hard it is to get out there with all our rituals. I'm practically at a loss if I don't have my tech gear, my exact breakfast, tie my shoes three times, etc. Do you think I'm superstitious?
Um, I hope you don't mean to give up on the ice-cream social....I hope there's time for many if not all these things. Actually, I don't know what the schedule generally is?? What are the "traditional" WISHer events and when? It's good for me to know these things, as DOOD and I will need to fly back Monday because of the start of the semester.
P.S. I went in-state. Didn't think I had much financial choice, and it's even worse for a lot of young adults today. The experience was good for me, in the end. I lived a few hours away, went to a big, diverse school, and met both people who thought like me and those who challenged my beliefs. If there's one thing I would have changed, I wish I'd done a study abroad program for a semester or a year. That's the one experience I would advise, and have advised, all students to have. (I realize I'm reiterating what
Joan said, but it bears repeating, IMO.)
Kristi: It sounds like the new deck will be a great addition (Hah, I can't believe I said that) to your family social gatherings. What a smart way to avoid Memorial weekend overindulgence. (Watch out for the 4th of July, though!)
CarolA: You're another person who's providing useful information about your Galloway group (Jackie is the other). You all make it sound very, very tempting. It sounds like you're getting into the training groove and connecting with your running group. Very cool. And I'm glad to hear you survived the snake encounter: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?" (Gratuitous Indy Jones ref.)
Amy: First off, congrats to your DD and her softball team. That's big news! And yeah for your good Galloway run. (Galloway, now where have I heard that name before?) But boo for your illness. I hope it was fleeting, like snow in May.
Kira: Happy Mother's Day. I hope your celebration was everything you hoped for!! You DID do the right thing on your run, and you're smart enough to be flexible with the LRs so as to really enjoy them. I think your decision bodes well for your upcoming 10K, too.
Cam:
for your PR pace and for running 23 minutes straight. That's great news and I know you're going to conquer next week's C25K. It really sounds like everything just came together for you, despite the lack of sleep and caffeine. Maybe the Wii has something to do with it, not that I fetishize new toys or anything.
Jen: Oh, a PR. More great news from the racing weekend front.

And you PRed feeling strong, despite the hills, the sinus infection and an asthma attack.

You rock, woman! (And your staff gave you the backing you deserved. Good for them for handling things without you.)
Aloha Jeff: I didn't realize just how social your running group was. I mean, I knew it was social, but not the the degree it was. How very sweet. Now, my next question is, how do you afford to do all these things?

And I didn't know about the Mark VII monorails. Man, you're not only trying to convince me to relocate to Hawaii but to plan another trip to DL. You should be a recruiter. Methinks I chose the wrong profession, darn my liberal-arts loving self!
Kelly and Lynnda: You both made me laugh AND want to be a NOLE. Maybe I should go back to school. I'm not too old for the college scene, am I? What I remember of those days, I remember fondly. Seems like there was alcohol involved.
Kelly: Post to both your small groups and here, if you have time. That way we all get to know you. Wow, you've really made a lot of progress quickly. And your 5K Adventure run sounds like it will be fun and filled with the unexpected.
Howard: What a great race for you, and a great finish to your semester.

And what is this I hear? You're actually training for MCM and Philly? What's next, training for the Goofy?
Vic: Raced out? Are you feeling all right? You must be talking about your own mileage, not cars.
Claire: You're back, you're back!

I did my shout-out to you last week, even though I knew you were enjoying intercession. Okay, maybe not enjoying intercession but managing it. It sounds like your prof knows how to help you maximize your time. I always liked qualitative research more than quantitative; thick description and all that. I've been hoping you're able to get some workouts in, and that you'll be back here more often in just a little bit.
Leana: What a great weekend you had. It sounds like your Sat. LR was postponed for good reasons, including a great Saturday and your Sunday LR pace. I look forward to hearing about your first duathon. Given how active you are, I can't imagine you'll do anything less than impressive.
Betsy: It's great to have you back and posting. And to know that you're enjoying your events--I had no idea you had another tri planned so soon after the one at Disney. I'm sorry to hear about your relationship issues, though. They suck. I hope you know your friends around here missed you!
Bill: Lynnda is a genius. And now my mouth is watering, so she's an evil genius.
Maura: You are a woman after my own heart, or at least taste buds. Strawberry Gelato and a Gin & Tonic. Now, if you will only tell me that you enjoyed these things while wearing a sharp, urban seersucker suit....
Ms. Duckie: Awww, I hoped your Mac was back in town. It's just not the same with a Dell, is it? (As a proud owner of both, I admit to occasionally cheating with the Dell but returning to my true love.) We miss you around here.
Steve: I'm so glad you, Krista, and Hines had a good relaxing weekend, including time with family and friends and what sounds to be some good running on your part. You all deserve it.

Oh, and in case you miss the above post--when is the Flying Pig?
As for me: I'll give you more details tomorrow, because this is just a catch-up post so I don't fall too far behind on the weekly thread. DOOD is giving me the stink-eye, as I promised him a WISH-free weekend for the holiday. I'm such a liar.
The short version is we spent a lot of time packing for the upcoming move, say the Phipps Conservatory Chocolate exhibit, had a picnic, and watched the new
Indiana Jones movie. (Like the original? you'll like this one I think, especially if you saw the first one at a pivotal moment in your adolescence.) Also did some biking together

and I've started my pre-January training, where I hope to find the fun in my run.
Now, off to spend some quality time with DOOD.
