Wk of March 8th - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

Thanks for the welcome back Maura and Tricia.

Debra, where to start. I usually train by myself but one of my friends from High School runs a lot of the races I do. Plus you start to see some of the same people at the races so you get to know everyone. The first race of the season is a 5 Miler in Ohio City called the St. Malachi 5 Miler. It is hilly and gets a huge amount of people out. I am doing the CMM half, I did it in 2006 and it is a great race.

Haven't gotten a stitch of running in this week. I have a huge blister on my foot still and, oh yeah, just found out I'm pregnant! LOL

What are the chances of getting a refund on the race fee??

Guess we'll have to wait until next year!

Well, I doubt you will get your race fee back, but who cares - you are having a baby! Congrats! Woo-hoo! :yay: :cheer2:

Maura and Debra , Thanks! Some times I forget that the other people have been running longer than I have and that it's impressive that I'm with them after less than a year of running. Tomorrow's my group run, so I'll just have to keep using that thinking.

Mindy, Congrats on the baby! It's not a little souvenir is it?

Today was my rest day, so no news to report.

Best,
Jennifer

Mindy - Congratulations!

Frank - LOVE the Man U logo in your signature!

Sunny - 7 miles outdoors is FABULOUS! It's so good to see you back!

Maura - DH and I loved savethewords.org too. Thanks for the link! And will you share the Caribbean Fudge pie?

Probably doing my LR on the TM tomorrow. Group run has basically canceled. All of us agreed we'll run in the cold, we'll run in the rain, but we'll not run in the cold rain.

Thanks so much! This is COMPLETELY unexpected! My runs didn't go so well last week. I just felt completely run down, like I couldn't go on. Now I know why! I know I'm not getting my race fees back, nor do I care.

Definitely not a Disney souvenir. I was honestly hoping to bring one back this year but timing wasn't good. Better late than never!

I wish you all the best with your upcoming races!! I'll have to cheer for you all from snowy, cold Pennsylvania!

Here's a link to the recipe for Caribbean Fudge Pie. The little recipe booklet I have is 16 years old, but it's apparently on the Kraft web site! Pitifully easy to make, but tasty! And you can use 1 TBSP rum instead of rum extract, and I use toll house bits (Bought in the huge 4-1/2 lb bag at Costco--perfectly acceptable for snacking!) instead of the baking squares.

Thanks. I have no idea what happened today at Old Trafford. They come off that great result against Inter and then screw the pooch badly. I think they'll bounce back though.

3 trophies down, 3 to go.

I am just back from my first race of the year. It is a very hilly 5 miler in downtown Cleveland. It always feels great to get the running season started.

Megan: Isn't it great how much difference a year can make? I love that you're doing RftC in Philly. I'll probably do Pgh's, but I hear Philly's is extraordinary!

Tricia: Get thee some Pi! Any reason to celebrate the pastry, er, the mathematical constant π. Maura's only the 3 or 4th person I know who was aware of it besides DOOD and myself. I love the I DID IT shirt motto--13.1 Miles and looking FABULOUS--and it speaks well of the great time you had at the Princess. Have you posted your RR yet? I really want to read it because I know you and Carrie had a great time.

Frank: First, congratulations on today's race. If the weather was anything like Pgh, you had good conditions. :woohoo: Second, that must be really cool to see familiar faces at the races and build those relationships organically. I don't do a lot of local races, but I have the "nodding acquaintanceship" on my regular runs. (Did you read the RW article on runners and waving? I think of that.) Third, yeah, what was up with Man U? Good for Liverpool, though, and the game made for great press.

Mindy: Congratulations, what great news! :cool1: I mean about the baby, not the blister. :rotfl2: I'll bet there are lots of celebrations in your household and with your family. It's probably way too early for you to think about, but you might be able to sell your entry to someone you trust after the 1/2 closes. There will always be WISHers who don't sign up and then regret it. They can pick up your packet with the proper I.D. Just something to think about.

Jennifer: See, that's what we're here for. To remind each other that we are all making progress! So, how did your running group run today?

Jackie: How did the LR on the TM go today? Did you miss your group much, or were you able to substitute other adequate distractions? I like your group's agreement, btw. Any group I would ever join would need such a policy, along with a post-run refreshment stop.

Maura: The fact that a recipe is easy to make seems to me to be in its favor. Along with the flavor of course. (Why use extract when you can use rum? mmmmm.) DOOD was delighted that you knew about Pi Day. That, savethewords.org, and CBC2...he might have a new crush. Or maybe that's me. Hard to tell. How do you feel about Leonard Cohen. Do I feel a "Hallelujah"?

As for me: Another tough run today. I've been having such a hard time on the TM lately, and I don't know why. The outdoor runs that I do midweek are fine, but the Saturday TM ones.... And tough from the beginning of the run or even if I set the pace slower than my outdoors pace. Huh. It's not normal for me, as I generally find the TM easier. Can't figure it out. :confused3 Of course, the obvious answer is to quit running on the flippin' TM. But that might interfere with my TV time. :lmao:

Anyway, any suggestions or ideas?

Great run today. We did 5 miles on a rolling course and I once again ran sub 8's (mostly 7:45's with a 7:30 and a 7:55 in there) the whole way. So a total of 38:30. Most excitingly the sun is back and it's supposed to be in the 50s for my long run tomorrow.

Debra, sorry you didn't have such a good run. I am the same way, in that I find I am much slower on a treadmill. It has never made sense to me, because I was always under the impression that running on a treadmill was easier :confused3 Maybe you do need to get outside?

Today I did an 8 mile run with my running group. It was VERY challenging because it was entirely rolling hills. Up, down, up down. I felt strong though, and was really happy with how it went. Guess it just was one of those good days? The bad part was that somehow I lost my remote car opener thingy along the route. But - I went back later and was actually able to find it!

Wellesley princess - once again, dang you are fast!

Maura, are these numbers from LOST? The ones that kept the island from imploding, on the hatch, and Hurley's lotto numbers? :happytv:
