Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we're a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. Some of us are training for the 2006 Disneyland Half and for the 2007 WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news/training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Good training everyone!

Posting a little early tonight so I can go to bed early. Picked up my packet today. The race is sponsored by an orange grove, so we got our goodies in a big citrus bag. Weather is expected to be 53F at the start with only 52% humidity...should be a nice race. Start is at 6am...my bib number is 1011. got the camera packed in case I find some winter homes for Christa and Bree ;)

MDM... :grouphug: so sorry to hear of your loss.

Anne...good luck on your 5K! Can't wait to hear about it!

Lynne...when is your St. Pete race? Congrats on that sub-10 min pace!

Paul...good to see you again! Great pace on your 7!

Jen...would love to see your pictures! Congrats on an hour of wogging today! :cool1:

Sara...love your 2007 clippie! Mind if I share it?

Lily...looks like you're planning to Goofy again? Did you do back to back LRs when you trained last year? What was your longest?

Off to bed! Oh yeah...my chip is already on my shoe :teeth:

I ran 8 really hilly miles today. that was my first long run since last weeks 26.2. my rear really hurts. i think it was the hills! I think we are going rock climbing tomorrow if it doesn't rain. I'll have to post some pics if we go. Need to stretch and sleep

Thanks, Mel!! May fair winds and great strides be with you!! :yoda: I know this is silly...but it is my very first official 5K tomorrow and I am just beside myself! Never imagined that I would think that it would be a breeze..but I do now that I've done 7 miles!! :sunny: This group is just an awesome bunch!!
Let me tell you one more thing that has made this first race extra special. DH and I went to pick up our race packets, numbers and t-shirts. My number is 316!!! Our anniversary is 3/16 and I just have this thing for 16 (mine, DS, DD's birthdays and our anni are 16's), I was just blown away!! :cloud9:
I did go a little nuts with the vendors. Hey, it's my first time!! (Thought of you, Kevin..even though it wasn't Disney. After today, I'll lose my mind at their Expo!!) Thought of all of you and your GU, so bought some different flavors. No, not for tomorrow..but when those 10 milers start coming up. Tonight I'm thinking of Sunny's race report and laying all of my stuff out...this for a 5K :rotfl2: :rotfl2: !!

I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself. My name is Dana, I am 26 years old, and have 2 beautiful boys 4 and 16 months. I have been running on and off since high school, and even thought about training for the 2006 marathon, but ended up pregnant, so that went out the window. So, now I am starting training for the 2007 Disney Marathon. I am so excited!! My longest run EVER has been 8 miles, so it's gonna be interesting to see how this all plays out. Can't wait to post my progress here and see how everyone else is doing.

Dana

Paul,

Thank you for the advice (not too late). You got exactly what I wanted to do - run a marathon just for a pacing exercise (training run). If my friend and I do anything it might just be a half marathon in October.

I'd love to know more about your experience with the Goofy :goodvibes . I've just started to train in January/February of this year.....I love hearing everyone's experiences - it's extremely helpful to know what to expect.

Hopefully - I will see you at this year's Goofy :confused3 ?

Thanks again for your advice.

Jodi

I will come out of lurker mode to give my take on this one. (hope it's not too late!) It is possible. I just began running again in Jan 2005. I had not run since high school many many years before. I was able to do my first marathon at the end of October, and I completed Goofy this past January. I treated the October marathon enitirely as a training run. Think of your October/November marathon as a training run for WDW in January. You will gain valuable experience from any race that you do before WDW. I learned more about pacing and how to run a marathon from my October marathon than I did on my 20 mile long runs. My wife completed WDW marathon (her first) in January, and she did 2 half-marathons (September, October) as part of her training.

I agree that Higdon's website has a lot of good information about how to plan your workouts for between the marathons. I also use Galloways advice in MARATHON You Can Do It Galloway emphasizes a slow pace and how you feel to determine when you can do your next marathon. For example, if you go at least 2 minutes per mile slower than your maximum effort, and your legs feel good in 3-5 days you can do your next one 4 weeks later.

As of right now, I am leaning heavily towards Goofy again in 07, and the decision has yet to be made for Vegas in December.

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:

I had a great LW yesterday. It was really cold and blustery, but I got out there and did my 4 miles. The last ~1.5 miles I alternated running from light pole to light pole. So I would run to a light pole, walk to the next, then run, then walk, etc. It felt really good. I ended up finishing my 4 miles in ~54 min or about 13:45 mpm pace. I was beat at the end though - took a nap in the afternoon which was heaven.

I also got to use my new running tights I bought on Friday. So I was in the store trying on the winter running stuff, and I felt like I was being stuffed into a sausage casing. Man, when did all the cold weather running stuff become skin tight? I bought the tights for my legs, but I couldn't by the top layer. It was too tight and showed off a little too many rolls - if you know what I mean (kind of like Mr. Incredible before he got in shape). My princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:, liked the tights. They liked they were shiny and soft and kind of like a superhero costume.

OK, I'm going to go back and catch up on posts now.

chimera Good luck on your race! You're running it as I type, so I am sending you lots of pixiedust: Can't wait to hear your report when you get back (and rest!)

Mel You're doing so great, 8 miles is still a challenge for me right now but then you added HILLS! Wow, you're an inspiration to me, keep it up! :cheer2:

Mahaerae Sounds like you had a great 5k! Isn't it great how it seems so easy now compared with other races! I know when I did my first, I was like..."3.2 miles?!?! Are you NUTS???" but now it's like "Oh, only 3.2 miles?? Can I go twice?" LOL I am the same with numbers, too. Anytime I have a 7 in my number is a big deal for me (I was born on April 7, DH and I married in July, 7/21, DH birthday's in July, etc etc.) I consider it a good luck sign!

Dana WELCOME! You and I are the same age :) Are you doing the full or the 1/2? I am doing the 1/2 this year and next time the full. Good luck w/your training! You'll find a lot of support and encouragement on the WISH boards, everyone here is simply amazing. :grouphug:

jodi :worship: Anyone who does the Goofy, I take my hat off too! One of these years I will do it! Sounds like you are on pace with your training! Keep up the good work.

Okay, as for me I am doing good with my work outs. Ran 1 mile yesterday, did a "Coach's Challenge" at the gym which consisted of:

50 Jump n' Jacks 50 box jumps
35 push-ups 35 dips
25 Jump n' Jacks 40 box jumps
25 push-ups 25 dips
15 Jump n' Jacks 20 box jumps

Boy was I tired after! But I did 15 more minutes on the eliptical and then weights (shoulders) plus some abs. I am sore today :crazy2:

Okay, off to take a shower and get ready for my day! We're going to Savannah to check out the sites. :Pinkbounc

TTFN! :tigger:

Mel - have a great race

Maharae - That is so cool the numbers are extra special. My first 5K number is still hanging on my wall.

Dana - sounds like you will kick butt in the 1/2

Dave - You have my rolling on the tights. I am also one who was not built for tights or spandex.

I finally broke the 5 mile mark on a daily regular workout, took my 62 minutes. I was indoors on the TM I just cocvered the data and did 3/2 for 60 minutes next thing I know 5 miles!!
The best thing no knee pain, none!!!

I am beginning to think I may be able to do the full after all.

Today is rest day and I am really finding it hard not to do anything. I actually WANT to workout, never thought I would EVER say that.

OK, I went back to read :surfweb: and catch up with my friends here.

Jen - You're training is really coming along! You had 60 total minutes of exercising yesterday. WTG!! :thumbsup2

Lynne - Wow, I'm really impressed with your training and those Ironman triathalons you can do. Maybe someday... I'm satisfied with my marathon dream right now. I'm going to check out those t-shirts after I finish reading the posts.

Mel/Chimera - I hope you kicked some booty on your Sarasota 1/2 Marathon. WTG Girl!!! You go!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: Here's some pixiedust for while you're on the course. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Thinking lots of good thoughts for you!

Maherae - No way, that's not silly at all. I'd be excited for my first 5K too! WTG! Let us know how it goes! #316 - see you have some destiny on your side!! :cheer2: :cheer2: Here's some pixiedust :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for you too.

Dana - Welcome!!! :welcome: This group has been absolutely wonderful. I haven't run much since my first princess, DD8 princess:, was born, and I'm trying to get back into it. I started walking at the end of January, and was really happy that I exercised 21 out of 28 days in February. That was due in large part to the motivation from this group. Welcome again.

Good Morning Jodi :wave2: - How did your personal trainer session go? I've been thinking of getting an appointment with one at my gym at work. I think it's time to start working on my core muscles, or maybe to get some core muscles.

Amy - my yoga class has been better than I thought it would be. I only do it once a week on Fridays, and I signed up to help me gain some flexibility. I've always been incredibly inflexible, and I really needed some help with stretching. It's a beginner class which is perfect for me.

disnygoof - whoa, that's some workout. Sounds like a really good one. WTG!

MickeySP - Good for you with your 5 miles yesterday. WTG! :thumbsup2 Isn't it amazing how your body starts to respond after a while? Great job!

Dave-Great pace! And lucky you getting a nap, my kids havent napped in forever, which means no nap for anyone.

Dana-Welcome! This is a great group. You have plenty of time to up your mileage. 8 miles is a great starting point, especially this far out.

Mel- Sorry I didnt get this in yesterday~ HAVE A GREAT RACE! I hope its beautiful out for you, the course looks really neat.

disnygoof-great workout!

MDM- just want to echo what everyone else has said. So sorry to hear of your loss. I am glad it was peaceful for her. Go easy on yourself right now. Train for therapy :grouphug:

Lynne-I didnt know you were in the Army too. How do you have time to breathe with all you have going on

Yesterday was an off day for me. But it was so pretty out, the whole time I was running errands & getting ready for DS party I was wanting to be outside riding my bike or wogging.

Mel~ I hope your race was a good one! The weather is really beautiful today.

Dana~ Welcome!!

MDM~ I am very sorry for your loss :grouphug:

Yesterday was our 6th Anniversary   so I did a quick workout on my new urban rebounder (wow is that a different workout--I was surprised how much my calves hurt and how tight my stomach felt) and we went out to dinner. I had like 45 points to use and I don't imagine i used them all, but I just feel yuck :crazy2:. I will be drinking lots of water today and doing my "long" run/walk/wog (3 miles today).

Christy

Hey, another question for all of went to the marathon or the race and the half. Everywhere I've read they recommend that you eat pasta the night before the big race - can anyone recommend a place at Disney? or does Disney put together? I know I can't do any planning yet was just curious.

Have a great day everyone!

Went great - we meet in another two weeks, of course to work on my core a little bit more. I love going to the sessions - I have a lot of fun, yeah it's tough but I'm keeping the bigger picture in mind. :thumbsup2

If your thinking about going to personal trainer, I say go for it! They do a fantastic job - just be sure to let them know your goals and they will help you work at it. The toughest part for me, is I'm really hard on myself (have to work at that) but my trainer says I'm doing a good job!

Sounds like you are doing well with your running - good job! :thumbsup2

I just have a quick few minutes to post so a quick :wave2: to everybody!

Funny thing happend on my walk today...well it is funny now anyway.

Lily double dog dared me to go out and get my long walk in this week...have I told you all that I am doing a half on April 1 and have not been training much at all? :confused3

Anyway, I swore I was going to get out today and get my walk in...so off I went. I figured I would get out there for 2 hours...regards of anything. So off I went. It started out great!! :cool1: So I am :cool1: and walking and talking on my phone...with Lily....just enjoying the day. I even decided a nice big hill would be fun. So up over the big overpass I go...up one side then down the other. I get on the down side of things and discover I am getting a HUGE blister on my right foot...darn! So I walk to the end of the road and then I think, crap, I have to go up one side of this big hill again and down the other. I can do this I tell myself. And I do :thumbsup2
Greg calls and asks where I am at.. I tell him the sweeper may have to come and get me as I am about 2 miles from home and I have now 2 big blisters...he said I will meet you in about 20 minutes....I said  So I continue to walk and all of a sudden a see a big furry thing that looks like a wolf or a cyotee cross the street and head my way. I FREAK!!!! THat is NOT a dog...it is a wolf or a cyotee.....oh crap...stay calm...no....RUN!!!!!!!! So picture if you will....big, fat, tired, gimping me RUNNING from this cyotee......It really isn't chasing me or anything, but it was a bit too close for comfort. Finallly I slow down a bit and then start to walk. Breathing is well...huffing and puffing.....Greg asks why the heck am I running... I nev er run. I ask him if he saw teh cyotee in the field and he says what cyotee.. :confused3 There really was a cyotee, he just didn't want to turn around to go and see it.

So, I got my five miles in...and I only wish I know how to download my splits...cause I forgot to turn the Garmin off when I got in the car...and the 1.22 minute mile would have amazed all of you, I am sure!!! :lmao:

So, that is my story for the day...now tell me agian why I do this? :rotfl2:

MDM -- Sorry about your loss  but I am so glad for you and your family that your mother's passing was peaceful. Take good care of yourself and don't wear yourself out.

Liz -- What a funny story! Well, not the part about the blister. And not the part about the hill and not the part about the coyote, but.. uhm, well, now, why did your post make me smile? :teeth: I am so glad you got out there, sweetie! I thought about calling you from my LW, but it was way too early here, so even earlier there.

Sunday should be a rest day, but yesterday was very busy with open house at a campus that Jenn is now seriously considering (thank you, God!) and then a colorguard show where all four of us volunteered. Going to sleep at midnight is not conducive to early morning LWs! I did 6 miles this morning and though I don't have my Garmin with me, I know the pace was at or less than 14:30, even closer to 14 for all but the last mile. I was so thrilled that it was 34 degrees when we went out, but the wind coming over the lake was bitter. There were wayy too many geese around but I saw a gorgeous hawk who seemed very interested in the running track and lingered over head for much of my last couple of miles. Hey, they hunt carrion, right? Geez, I didn't look that bad, did I?

Mel -- I am thinking of you so much today and hope you had a fabulous time! Was worried about your chip, but I'm sure you'll never forget to attach one of those will you? ;)

Dave -- I like the lamp post approach. I used to do that when I trained near my house, but there is nothing that evenly spaced at the state park's track. I may have to give that some thought for next week's LW.
